Aileen68 -> Gonna get a tat (2/10/2006 5:58:29 AM)

I've been seriously thinking, for the past few months, of getting a tattoo on my lower back.
Would this be considered a female mid life crisis issue?
Up until now I've never wanted one. In fact I've never found tattoos to be attractive on women.
But all of a sudden I've become somewhat obssessed with the idea.
Something very tiny, tribal...located low enough so it won't be visible in a bikini.
Seen only by a select few.

You Go Girl! I started with My first about 2 years ago--lower spine, got My next one (lower shoulder blade) last year and have selected My 3rd to be done in a few weeks---don't know if its midlife or not--I think it just became so popular--and there, only those that I want to see it--do---have fun!

Go for it!
Tats are a wonderful way to express yourself.
I have 2, from quite a few years ago
and Master has planned 3 new ones for me!
Can't wait :)

Yes it's a normal part of things :) We like marks, we like symbols, we like feeling "owned" by something. Enjoy.

I have three tattoos that I love and had a hand in designing. My advice to you if this is a sudden itch is this: Get a picture of it and carry it around with you for a year. If you still want the tat, by all means, get it. I've seen too many people get this urge and live to regret it when they got the tat. Unless you can afford lazer surgery to get it removed MAKE SURE you REALLY want it.

Just my two cents.

this is excellent advice!!!! this slave has carried around a sketch for 20 years now, following the "wait-a-year" rule, because from year to year this slave would change it somehow...this slave doesn't know if she will ever get the tattoo, but it has been fun seeing how this slave's perceptions of the "ideal" tattoo have changed over time!!!

another good thing to do is research your tattoo artist--see some of their past work, get a look at their location(cleanliness being next to Godliness, of course).

Best of luck, Aileen~this is your first?? Don't worry, they don't hurt a bit!!![;)]

IrishMist -> RE: Gonna get a tat (2/10/2006 7:44:24 AM)

Mmm I love tattoos. I think they are one of the most beautiful artforms that there are. I have a couple that I have not regretted getting at all. And Miss Beth is correct when she says that they don't hurt [:)]

I always had a problem with them tickling, which made for very frustrated tattoo artists. I would giggle through the whole thing. [&:]

I concur with Beth... most excellent advice. The vivid memories of days gone by while in the Marines..... After six or seven shots of Cuervo gold, a bunch of drunks all pitching in for a cab ride to Oceanside for another Tat - Don't know what came over me.... but I bowed out every time, only to be thankful later.

Fabulous advice. I love all my tats but I lived with the designs each one for at least a year, and what I noticed is that the idea evolved and changed slightly (location, or size, or perhaps colour), until eventually something settled.

I know it seems odd but what I've noticed is that by the time I'm ready to get it done I almost feel as if the tat is already there, under the skin, waiting to be revealled. And so it just feels so amazing when it is finally visible.

Be prepared for the possibility that it will be a more spiritual experience than you may anticipated...and possibly addicting. LOL

Dang, I want more!!!!

I love my tattoes and those on my boy. :) (I am about to have my autograph tattoed on his ass <G>)

But I digress...

Every time the subject of tattoing comes up, I am reminded of something my Aunt once said. "People will spend hundreds of dollars to put a picture permanently on their bodies, they wouldn't spend 10 dollars to hang on their wall."

Food for thought

windchymes -> RE: Gonna get a tat (2/11/2006 4:43:03 PM)

I would never tattoo someone's name on me, unless it was a beloved blood relative. That's just tempting fate too much and asking for a permanent reminder of something you might later on wish you could forget. Kinda like herpes.

But, I've gotten hooked on the tattoo shows that are on tv now. I'm thinking of getting one over a surgery scar.

fastlane -> RE: Gonna get a tat (2/11/2006 4:46:30 PM)

I have my sons names tattooed on me....and would add another name, but I'm neutered...LOL.

I would like to get another tattoo though, with the one who wears my collar, as an act of solidarity....I think that would be cool!

perverseangelic -> RE: Gonna get a tat (2/11/2006 5:40:21 PM)

I don't quite subscribe to the "wait a year" rule, but close. I mean, I think it's -critical- to wait till you're sure, and sure you can see the design forever and not hate it.

With one of my tattoos I waited ten years. With the other two, I just knew. I commissioned one from a friend, and when we got to the final version I simply knew it was right. The other I drew, and after fiddling on te computer, felt the same way.

I really want a few more, but I'll probably be limited 'cause the owner doesn't like 'em. I do plan on getting something on the inside of each ankle for my children when I have them, and I have a quote i'd like to get on me somewhere.

"come away, o human child,
to the water and the wild,
with a faerie hand in hand,
for the world's more full of weaping
than you can understand."

Aileen68 -> RE: Gonna get a tat (2/11/2006 5:52:18 PM)

Thanks all for your advice. I doubt I'll wait a year to do this...not my style.
I'm a stick and move type of gal once I make up my mind.
I'm already working on the design and plan to incorporate the names of my wee ones into it somehow
along with a little memorial to my lost wee one also.

fastlane -> RE: Gonna get a tat (2/11/2006 5:57:02 PM)

It'll be awesome and you will cherish it....you go girl!

Peace, Kevin

HouseofBear -> RE: Gonna get a tat (2/11/2006 6:33:42 PM)

I got my first one on my 40th birthday. Mid life crisis..perhaps. However, I had wanted this particular tat about twenty years, and felt if I had not changed my my mind about wanting it in that long a time, then it was time to go for it. It is my own particular "guardian" a celtic wyrm on my right shoulder.

i am the only sibling in my family that does not have any tats or peircings...by choice. to each their own.

Rayne58 -> RE: Gonna get a tat (2/11/2006 7:21:46 PM)

I got my first one when I was 43. I now have two - a design from Ghana on my lower back which literally means "life transformation". I got it three months after leaving my husband and embarking on my journey of finding out who and what I was.

The second is a tribal heart, on my left upper arm. I found it on a tattoo flash site and for the life of me I haven't been able to find that site again, but the tat was in a block of several others and it just stood out for me....it meant something special to both me and the man I was seeing at the time. He was going to get a dragon tat and put the heart in it as a background, I don't know if he ever did because we broke up before he could get it. I still like the tat and don't see any reason to get rid of it. It's not like it had his name in it or anything, and it's also a reminder of a part of the journey when I took a wrong direction, but ended up with the wonderful Master I have now.

My next one is going to be a tribal kiwi, to represent my birth country [:)] I also would like some scrollwork below the back tat, but haven't found anything that goes with it yet.
