Hissltora -> RE: Breastfeeding, taboo or not (6/16/2009 12:40:16 PM)

~F 1 handed R~

i'm a nursing mom, doing it as i type right now. For the past three years (not the same kid, i've got three) i've nursed just about anywhere a woman can legally go with a small child or three. i've never had anyone complain or stare. Maybe i'm just that stealth, or maybe most people can control themselves when confronted with less than a square inch of skin colored just like my neck. Hmm. No free nipple show here, even without a blanket to cover. Too hot and humid for that.

i've nursed in food courts of some of the busiest malls, and never been mugged or even approached. Maybe it's because i'm sitting smackdab in the middle of a large crowd of people, and my purse is tucked in between my legs. Now if i had gone to the bathroom to feed my guy, i'd be all alone. No witnesses. Where the hell is the safety there?

If you really thinking nursing is a huge safety concern lemme tell ya, if anyone were to try to interrupt a feeding session of my lil guys, not only would hypothetical perp's head implode from the ear splitting mind melting scream of an infant denied, but the strength of my let down could easily spray a stream of milk so hard that it'd poke his eyes out. So see, i have MORE defenses than a bottle feeding momma.

As for expressing...pffft. Why spend 15 min on each side attached to a milking machine, having carry a small igloo to keep it cold? You gonna carry it around for me with the two diaper bags and two other ums?

my Owner laughs at your belief that one should be pampered like a princess for being a nursing mommy. He firmly believes that nursing does not equal a delicate condition.

i see no correlation between some silly bint insisting she has the right to wear only half of an outfit and me insisting i have a right to leave His house without 15 lbs of feeding gear. YOU have the paranoia, not i...YOU can keep YOUR female hidden away until she is no longer too delicate for the rest of the world, but to claim that all women (and their partners) should feel the same way is quite wrong.

Y'know...women have been attacked for their looks, and the fact that they are smaller than the males. Perhaps you should consider putting your female under a chador just in case. Can't ever be too safe, right?

A most indignant tora

You're hopeless...you are arguing against the majority and looking like the fool.

You only say hopeless because I don't agree with you. Here's the thing, though. I don't have to agree with you and vice versa.

Absolutely correct on that, Loki. You don't look like a "fool".......just like you have issues...........<ducks & runs>

**Just kidding, keep on posting Loki. I'm enjoying the debate**

i admire your honesty Loki!  However, i don't think you are an asshole, just someone who has vastly different views to mine and others....

Well thank you. I really am an asshole, though. Just ask around. Yes, I do have vastly different views. I'm the guy who will never find "Miss Right" because she's in a movie called "Grease" wearing a pink belted dress and hanging on Danny's every word.

She don't exist in real life....so I'm screwed. I have a very idolized few of somethings and a very realistic view of others. When the two clash, it really sucks. However it happens.

I'll re-iterate this point (from page 2) since it's been so long. If you wanna feed in public....have at it. I am not going to stop you and wouldn't want to try. I've been a waiter and kept right on doing my job whilst a youngin' was feeding away. But at least consider other people when you do what you do. That's all I ask. Be discreet and mindful of others. True, they don't "have" to look..but you don't "have" to flaunt it, either.

I'm going to have to correct you again, darlin'. I don't have issues...I have whole subscriptions. If issues were physical objects, you'd not be able to find my bed from my door.

People aren't against mom feeding the baby, just the way she does it. Why not express the milk into a bottle before you leave home if you know you'll be out when baby's hungry?

(Fast reply before reading the whole thread)

I for one had kidlets that were more than just simply unhappy with a bottle. Plus, why express, tote along and reheat, if the fresh stuff is readily available at any time.

It is a sad state of things if people are upset about seeing a breast while it is used for what it is intended.

I bared my soul & explained my body issues which relates to my view on public breast feeding and you didn't read it?????  [&o] I'm crushed!

**Eta spelling error**

I am soooooooooooooo terribly sorry! To atone for my sin, I have now not only read through the whole thread, I have also read all of your posts in it extra slowly, and twice! [;)]

I hope you can accept my humble apology. [sm=flowers.gif][sm=flowers.gif]

Oops, missed something:

You do not have to have your wife's permission to get snipped in Minnesota. i should know, Master had it done this past March and no one ever desired my opinion. Don't see how something like that *could* be required with the current medical privacy laws in effect.

Quite frankly, shouldn't apply to you, Loki, as you said you weren't married...yet...

I never said anything about her being delicate. But if someone on this planet has it in them to bring forth a child to an asshole like me, the fondness and L--- (okay, I still can't say the L word) I have for them would compel me to make sure that I showed that I cared for her.

Mothers aren't the only parent that can feel protective. My (fictional) wife may not be delicate and brittle, but to get to her, you're going to have to go through me. And that ain't likely to happen in this or any other life.

Yeah, but I also can't afford the procedure. Plus, the curious person inside me is always wondering. "If I leave it up to the powers that be...what will happen?" It's sort of like this -- I think I'd make a horrible father. I don't really want to make the concious choice to try. But all the female friends I have who have seen me with my neices and nephews say I'd make a wonderful one. I figure if one day a (fictional) wife of mine said "it turned blue" then that'd be God's way of saying "Forget the asshole who (never) raised you. You're going to do fine."

(In response to your other question, I'm in Texas)

Good for you, you feel protective. Might you want to quit jumping at shadows, though? You're going to become twitchy. (honestly, i'm just teasing.)

Smothering a woman in solicitous solitude and showing her you care and appreciate her commitment/effort are or can be two entirely different things. Pull that with someone like me and i'd think you thought i was too weak or incompetent to function normally. It's milk coming from my breast, not my brains. Although at two in the morning, i'd question that. :)

KneelforAnne -> RE: Breastfeeding, taboo or not (6/16/2009 12:56:34 PM)

While I am not a mother, what sprang to my mind was the isolation that the mother would have to endure if forced (or asked) to stay home after birth.

I’m the type of person that has to get out and be around people…I need contact. I can’t imagine going months without being out in public. Combine that with the odds of some sort of post-partum depression (be it small or large scale) and I would probably go crazy sitting at home with an infant for days/weeks/months at a time.

I don’t like touching anything in a public restroom…I would never think to feed my child in one. Now, there are some “salon” type sitting rooms attached at times, and that would work well.

I understand Loki’s point of view…protection of your family, and of home being the safest place to be… but there comes a point when the walls start to close in.

Life happens, and while it is best to be aware of your surroundings--- if someone is out to get you…odds are they’re going to get you--you can’t be hyperaware all of the time.

I am a woman. And I love boobs. Spent many a dollar in ye old titty bar. And I'm all for feeding those babes, especially when they are screaming their little heads off. No, I didn't nurse my children.

I do have a major problem with the lack of decency of some women. One day I was in a mall and saw a woman walking through with her shirt hiked up, her tit hanging out and the kid dangling. She was completely exposed for the world, and my children to see. Just because we, as women, should have the right to feed our babes, we should also have some common sense and modesty that the whole world doesnt want to see us in the middle of a mall naked.

i second that!  i have had such bad hallucinations through sheer exhaustion that i ended up having a meaningful conversation with my bedside lamp whilst feeding in the middle of the night, quite convinced it was a friend of mine...... [8|]

And if you said that to me in response to my adoration, I'd say "But aren't you?" And then of course I'd laugh and duck. 'Twas my female friends who gave me the endearing nickname "ass." Usually said in exclamation in response to a jokingly chauvanistic comment I made to them.

If it turns blue, that's the world's way of fucking with You

I like it better because it rhymes

checking Texas state law brought up nothing about any restriction other than a 30 minute screening to make sure that you are of sound mind (If you arent do they really want you breeding anyway?)

They may have changed the law in the time since I first heard about it. I couldn't hope to provide a link or source, so admittedly, I could be talking out of my ass. I listen to a lot of talk radio and sometimes it all blurs together.

GabrielleSlave -> RE: Breastfeeding, taboo or not (6/16/2009 1:04:03 PM)

Actually it seems that everyone is agreeing here that it is the decency thing that is the real issue..??  So, does this make us all friends again??
