Is it moral to try to break a slave's spirit/free will with her consent?

LadyShoshin -> RE: Is it moral to break a slave (8/20/2004 3:32:26 PM)

Why would anyone want to? It is the slave's attitude and behaviour, often their feistiness that draws one to them. As one Domme said, I would rather have a panther at the end of my leash than a pussycat.

In the days of the European houses it was common to break the slave, but like a fine horse, it is better to win their trust and loyality than to take it by force. It is better that they bend their will to you because of a desire to serve than because the spark has been removed. Dom/mes have broken slaves and remade them into what they wanted only to find that the slave no longer had the qualities that were attractive in the first place.

Should the relationship end, the slave is left broken, rudderless.

I will take my sub/slaves with a hint of spice over a whipped puppy any day.

I totally agree with the LadyShoshin - I've personally never had a slave that didn't want to do whatever I wanted them to do - If I encountered one with a lot of resistance then I would move onto someone else.

ScorpioMaster -> RE: Is it moral to break a slave (8/20/2004 3:36:43 PM)

Why would you want to break your toy? It is not fun playing with something that their well is broken. What would you get out of it if you were able to break her spirit? Have you every seen an animal were it spirit was broken they have no spark. Our Job as Master is to create not to destroy that is what predators do not understand. Think of your self has an artist reshaping the stone and you see the true beauty beneath the stone.

If a slave consents to being broken, doesn't that tell you that they will already do whatever is needed, and that anything more you did would be redundant?

MrThorns -> RE: Is it moral to break a slave (8/20/2004 4:34:45 PM)

I have to agree with the other posts that said..."Why would you want to?" I'm not interested in having a stepford-slave. I like the fact that she is able to think for herself and serve me based upon her knowledge of me in the absence of orders. (If that made any sense...)

I think the conuntations here are a bit wrong, sometimes they need to be broken from things like bad habits, previous behaviors, etc...this goes into that "unlearning behaviors" topic. Sometimes we must break down walls and decay to build up something new and splendid.

pixieunleashed -> RE: Is it moral to break a slave (8/20/2004 5:58:49 PM)

I think morality and desireability are two different things.

If I happened to want to be a broken slave, I would hope that I could find a trustworthy Master to do it for me. Putting the slave side aside and speaking as a human being, that would be my right to live in that kind of lifestyle if I so chose.

Now, on the desireability factor, I myself, would not want to have a slave I had to break. Not having anything to do with their spirit or zeal for life, but more so cause I think it would be a huge hassle especially since they would probably have to be micro-managed and I like things easy.

Let's assume I'm the slave and I have a fetish to have my spirit broken. It is all I think of. (This is hypothetical.) Lady Beckett agrees to satisfy my fetish. We agree She will keep me locked in the basement without light until my spirit is broken. I walk into the cellar willingly.

After five days my spirit is broken. I will willingly walk into the basement whenever comanded.

Before I was eager to obey her out of love and after I obeyed her out of fear. (Someone who loves you will take a bullet for you. Someone who fears you will poison your soup [or chili[:)]].)

If you get stabbed the person who obeys you because they love you pulls the knife out and stops the bleeding. The one who obeys you because they fear you twist it, pulls it out and plunges it in a few more times for good measure.

So you think breaking a slaves spirit is a good thing?

Not that I know anything in particular about this subject, however, since I thought it I think other's might as well.

If the one that obeys you out of "fear"/ because you "broke" them, twists the knife, then reinserts it, did you do such a good job of breaking them?

I'm with the "why would you want to" crowd.

Why would anyone want to do this or have it done to them?

Last year, I got a puppy. She is a shiba inu, a breed well known for being intelligent and stubborn and difficult to train. From an excellent breeder, she was well-loved when I picked her up at the airport. In my home, she and I had to establish our own relationship. And she can be stubborn. I could have nipped that in the bud by force, but one of the very best thing about this dog is her playful spirit. Instead, I slowly, with touch, affection, and beef liver treats, convinced her that all good things come when she does things my way. Every now and then, there was a rebellion, and my response was always the same, hold her tightly. Today, she is still spirited, she is also well behaved, loving, devoted. The worst punishment is to be out of my presence and being with me is her heart's desire, the thing she actively seeks. Well, that and ear scratches and a new toy now and then. She is my dog.

I am a great deal like my puppy. I am intelligent and spirited and playful and, yes, I can be stubborn. A master/dom may wish to "train" me, but were he to do so with harsh measures and fear, I may well obey, but I would not be his. However, the same methods used with Tatsuko would work with me. Affection, love, gentleness, time in his presence, and when I am out of control, hold me tightly. The worst punishment, to be out of his presence, to be excluded is sufficiently harsh. Trained in this method, I would be his happily, gladly, with great devotion, and willingness to obey and serve.

Actually, you do more damage by removing a object such as a knife than you would by leaving it in place and applying pressure around the object.

Anywho, i would classify myself as having been 'broken' in my failed marriage. Hmm, what would i have done in such an situation? Well, i would have either pulled the blade out and wandered aimlessly about the house looking for the phone or i would have administered first aid so that i would have something to hold over his head in the next few weeks, months, years (*wicked grin*)

LadyShoshin -> RE: Is it moral to break a slave (8/21/2004 3:31:21 PM)

We may call it "breaking" a bad habit, when what it really is consists of replacing a negative behaviour with a positive behaviour. Example, I had a sub who knew he chonically forgot things and was perpetually late. He asked me to help him change this behaviour. He had to drive 2 hours to get to my home, on one date, he was 13 minutes late (he had been late before that and had been spanked), this time I opened the door, said "You are 13 minutes late, I will see you next week" and closed the door. At our next meeting, he told me he had been angry for half the drive home, until he realized what I was doing. Did I break him? No, was he prompt after that? Yes.

I tell my new subs to be very careful what they ask me to help with. Example - patience is learned by trying it.

If you break the slave, who's going to clean it up?

Sinergy -> RE: Is it moral to break a slave (8/22/2004 10:54:20 AM)

Hello,

The problem I have with this poll really comes down to defining what "break a slave" means.

Take training a horse. In the old days a person would sit on it, teach it to fear the person riding it, and ultimately meld it to the person's will through fear and intimidation.

Extrapolate out on this concept, and one ends up with horses similar to those which work in kiddy rides. Walking around and around dolefully with a child on their back, bereft of will or self-worth, willing to be a mindless drudge for whoever is next in line.

Do I want this in a person? Hell no. I want a woman who melds to my will, but who I can trust to watch my back, who knows I have got her back, and will rip off the head (figuratively speaking) of anybody who attempts to insult or injure either she or I.

Getting back to the horse analogy, somebody said "why dont we use the herd instinct of a horse and teach it to love and trust us instead?" And you end up with the Horse Whisperer paradigm for training horses. Nothing about the horse is broken down or demeaned, but the horse's inner nature is harnessed to make it submissive to it's owner and/or people.

While the methodology may not work with humans, to me the concept is very fitting for our lifestyle. I dont feel I need to break her down at all. If there are unwanted emotions, she and I can work together to find ways to unlearn them.

Exactly...haha. They don't realize how relentless I am when they tell me their lifes goals.

"as always I will carry you kicking and screaming and in the end you will thank me." ;)

I see a lot of yes's in the poll, does anyone have experience?

cheeba0228 -> RE: Is it moral to break a slave (8/24/2004 6:43:23 PM)

I dont see the point in breaking a slave. Its their free will that you want them to give to you. If you strip them from it they are little more than an animal. I dont want an animal I want a companion to serve me not an animal to sit stay and roll over. Its no fun when they stop screaming[:D]
