sodsta -> Kink on a plane... (6/18/2009 8:46:14 AM)

So, I'm flying out to San Francisco in just under a month and I was wondering how safe it is to pack kink equipment? I mean things like ropes, cuffs, floggers, crops, gags, etc... Are these kinds of things likely to be seen as suspicious and be confiscated if security goes through my case? Or will they just roll their eyes and go "another pervert, then" and leave them alone?

I've never taken any kink toys abroad before, so I don't really know what to expect. I thought I'd ask you guys if you'd had any experience with this.

Thanks for any help. :)

As long as its in your checked bags, you will be fine--be sure though to put chains, etc in a suitcase to keep the rattle and roll to a minimum--they see this stuff all the time.

RumpusParable -> RE: Kink on a plane... (6/18/2009 9:52:04 AM)

Agreed ^.  Only put it in your checked baggage and it shouldn't be a big deal.  I just flew across country with 2 kink bags:  one filled with striking & binding implements, the other full of cutting, piercing and stapling implements.  All the metal in my bloodplay bag must've set something off, because they cut the lock on that one and inspected it... they didn't even take out the things that violated the fluids rules (my technicare, hand sanitizer and discide), they just threw in the "we inspected your bag" flyer and left it be.  I didn't even realize til I got to my mom's and needed something out of it.

SmokingGun82 -> RE: Kink on a plane... (6/18/2009 10:05:45 AM)

I fly all the time, and at least ninety percent of the time I've got a kink bag in my checked bag. I tend to get the "We tossed your bag and it's not our fault if we stole something" sheet at least once a trip, but nothing's been taken or missing thus far. Besides a lighter, but that's another discussion all together.

You should be fine.

GreedyTop -> RE: Kink on a plane... (6/18/2009 10:13:48 AM)

use zip sealed bags for the smaller stuff...  make an itemized list of the items in your suitcase. Make two copies.  Put one in the bag, carry one.

Check EVERYTHING that might be questionable by the standards of security.

Asherdelampyr -> RE: Kink on a plane... (6/18/2009 10:50:02 AM)

This isnt about what I thought it was gonna be
I was all ready to discuss the space constraints within the flight attendant area and the rest rooms :(

As long as you dont do something stupid and put your toys in your carry on you will be fine
I have traveled with swords and knives before for SCA events, including all my pretty dress blades, and never had a single issue

MsFlutter -> RE: Kink on a plane... (6/18/2009 10:56:20 AM)

oddly not one person has mentioned 'ship it on ahead'

Asherdelampyr -> RE: Kink on a plane... (6/18/2009 10:59:19 AM)

After my recent dealings with ups, and the cost in general I would say its not worth the hassle

Don't. You may end up spending hours or more in a holding cell, miss your flight, and even if you don't, you may get into innumerable hassles in customs upon arrival, who may decide you're too weird to get through immigration, they have Federal rules, doesn't matter which city you are headed for. As you are fingerprinted, stuff may end up on your travel record, which makes it flow back to the UK. Then, you need to go back home, one assumes, too.

I stopped taking anything after 9/11, and now buy stuff wherever I am headed. It is easy to find a store on the internet, and most will take orders ahead of time, they'll deliver it to your hotel if you want.

Don't go with the "should be OK", go with the "why invite trouble". Trust me, it is not worth it, and you don't know, presumably, if you will ever need a high level security clearance somewhere in your future, and this will (I guarantee, this isn't even an educated guess!) then come back to bite you.

sublace -> RE: Kink on a plane... (6/18/2009 3:29:36 PM)

true: It didn't occur to me that silicone would appear on an x-ray as opaque. i was travelling in the USA with a male just friends friend

The enticingly fierce lady in charge of baggage skeletons caught my eye as the huge dil... stood bare and bold outlined in my suitcase.
She brought her gaze to mine, rolled her peepers, looked ay my friend

Yes: fiercegirll and i were in agreement - i needed the damned thing

Asherdelampyr -> RE: Kink on a plane... (6/18/2009 3:34:33 PM)

LMAO

I have had a lot of stuf in my checked baggage, from whips to handcuffs to knives to machines
never had an issue, and I did all my traveling post 9/11

The closest thing to a problem I ever had was when I joined the Army, they damn near stripsearched me then because of the type of boarding pass

Kyle is flying internationally, and I don't think he has an Armed Forces ID either.

BossyShoeBitch -> RE: Kink on a plane... (6/18/2009 4:31:48 PM)

Why not be safe and call the TSA directly?

I thought about it, but that heavily depends on what is in the box, and its value. I tend to buy stuff I want at my destination, and ship it home, with the gifts and other shopping, before I head back. In the Philippines, the Hilton staff insisted they would take care of everything for me. After they packed it, the girls in the lounge behaved entirely differently, and I got free drinks like there was no tomorrow. Can be kinda cool, too: "I bought this whip in Chennai" [8D]. Coming back from Amsterdam, one time, the customs guy went "did you bring anything back"?. I told him "cheese and frozen herring", and he said "no, no, DVDs and stuff. I don't mind it, as long as there isn't anything with animals or kids".

Personally....I'd just head to the TSA gates with my handcuffs on and simply tell them.....

"I was already planning on breaking the law....specifically, I was all that clear actually on the individual legal section....but I just figured I'd be prepared".

That was damned hilarious.  Now I have diet Mt Dew on my monitor.  You should add:

"Here's my taser.  Use it to save on your batteries.."

Greetings all....

Lots and lots of wrong and bad information here. I do have to know what is on the list of things allowed on an airplane due to the fact that I work for an airline and it is part of my job. First off....if you put your toys in checked luggage, they will get through pretty easily and well. Yes, your bag may be opened but unless you have something flammable all your standard toys will go through just fine. The official list is here: http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/prohibited/permitted-prohibited-items.shtm. Handcuffs are not on the list and were specifically allowed in checked luggage. Things like collars and cuffs should be just fine in both carryon and checked. The same with most sex toys. Hard plastic is better these days than gel based dildos but even those should get through and yes, the TSA screeners have seen them before and no, you are not going to shock them. The same goes for wearing a collar on the plane. Even metal ones are allowed. I had a slave who often wore her Turian (Eternity) collar on planes and when asked if she could take it off would say no and they let her on through with no further problems. This is domestic US information. Internationally your milage may vary.

Be well all....

Malkinius
