Maybe the next time he decides to go hunting, he should invest in some toilet targets. They are guarenteed to:

Improve aim and coordination
Increase vocabulary and language skills
Are eco-friendly, non-toxic and septic system safe

It's a win-win proposition!

How about a new game? List the stories in their order of importance:

Riots over Cartoons
A "free" press who refuses to publish the 'offending' cartoons.
Iran's nuclear program
Genocide in Darfur, Sudan.
Saddam tapes from the 1990's discussing terrorist attacks in the US.
Cheney hunting accident.

Bold emphasis Mine. Although it may be fun for many to joke about this, it is also important to remember that the victim walked into the line of fire.
Sometimes shit happens.

That sounds like the better choice to Me, also!

I really think this may have been the prime cause. Just the point that Darth.... errr Chaney avoided the cops (like Kennedy) for so long makes me extremely suspicious.

I've seen these "hunting ranches" and they make me sick. Anyone who goes there and claims to be a sportsman would also fish with dynamite. The animals have NO chance.

While I agree that no one should be firing a weapon while under the influence of drugs (heck I won't even take Benedryal if I am going to a range) and if he was intoxicated, someone should have taken his weapon away. I think that fishing with dynamite would be fun.

After all one of the big reasons that the 4th of July is one of my favorite holidays is all the explosions (the dogs hate it though).

I will likely never get to fish with dynamite (my uncle got rid of all of his) but it still sounds like a blast (pun intended).

I do not think that chasing a fox with a pack of 25 baying dogs is very sportsman like either - however more for what they do to the fox.

I would also prefer to eat game meat from a "hunting ranch" what ever that is (I am guessing similar to the hunting lodges of old) than the animal meat from the huge processing and slaughtering farms. Cheney probably had to use a hunting ranch for security reasons - much easier to form a perimiter than being dropped into the Rocky Mountains. Just a thought.

Best,

LaMalinche

BTW JohnWarren - for me, this is not a case of who has the correct opinion on sportsmanship, just throwing out another way of looking at it. I very much respect your views on the subject. I add this because there have been too many "I am right and you are wrong threads" lately.

There are places, fenced, where exotic and big game animals are drugged and let out of a cage, whereupon the assw**** shoots them and then has the head mounted or whatever.

This is not my idea of sport.

Since I am a family friend of Whittington's offspring, I can enlighten you a bit here.

Whittington has had a long history of alcohol abuse.

I seriously doubt Cheney imbibes, given his meds and ongoing conditions.

As for the delay in reporting the incident: If I accidentally shot one of My closest friends, I wouldn't give a rats damn about the press. My primary concern would be for My friend and his/her family. Do you even know where the ranch is? It's a thousand miles from NOWHERE, that's where.

It would have taken a good 20 minutes to 30 minutes to even get a helicopter in the air for life-flight to respond. Another 20 minutes flight time to get to the ranch and stabilize the patient, another 20 min to get to the Hospital in Corpus Christi.

Once my friend was hospitalized, I'd be beside my friend, waiting for some prognosis. If you've EVER been through an emergency event, you know how those hours can drag on.

Lighten up, people. Regardless of the political fracas, the man has a right to be human.

Cheney's human. Give him a break.

It's not the press I was talking about. It was the cops. Everywhere I've lived a shooting, accidental or not, must be reported in a timely manner to the police.

Sounds to me like the VP wanted to avoid a sobrity test. As for his "conditions and meds," I've rarely encountered boozers who let objective hazards keep them out of a bottle.

well, how did the deal go down? A hunting party of close friends, am I incorrect or does texas have forests that have not been noted by Vasco DeGama, et al...that leaf trees in this season? So they hunt in birch and tamarack swamps as we do? A few guys standing around and someone gets shot....we got cops at the hospital............

Maybe texas works different, or has different laws.........

Just thinkin'

You obviously do not take heart medications, blood pressure medications, pulse rate regulators, statins, and warfarin, or you would know that Cheney could not possibly drink.

Yes, we all watch so much CSI, Cold Case, Unsolved Mysteries, etc etc etc etc that we think the local P.D. or S.O. MUST work just like they do in the movies.

The reality of Texas Law Enforcement is: There's only one or two officers/deputies on duty, one is at a burglary making a list of what was stolen and the other is out chasing burglar alarm calls, leaving the rest of any county or city virtually devoid of response. Why, just the other day, a friend of mine caught a burglar IN their home, red handed, at gunpoint. When they called 911, they were told 'gee, I'm sorry but we don't have anyone on duty today'. My friend replied "well maybe you'll get someone out here after I *effing* shoot his ass". And THAT, folks, is a true story.

I'd hazard a guess that if there was any unit available to respond to the Hospital's report of a gunshot wound, it took the deputy hours to get there, after which his good ole boy Sergeant/Captain/Leiutenant/Chief instructed him to write his report and 'go home'. No doubt, the CIA and or FBI hotshots were claiming 'Our Juristiction' effectively silencing any local law enforcement whatsoever.

Welcome to Texas, home of the brave, land of the free, it's why we all own our own guns.

And just for the record, delectable, it's not My idea of Sport, either. Nor is lying in wait to fire a rifle at a doe or a buck that comes to a feeder that's been deliberately placed to lure the animal.

Funny. I like to fish with a rod and reel, though. Is it less traumatic just because it's a fish?
