CallaFirestormBW -> RE: Are We Prostitutes? (6/22/2009 12:20:24 PM)

I'm firmly in the camp of "who cares". I have always thought that prostitution should be legalized, and that we're doing more damage to ourselves by cramming false morality down peoples' throats than by caring about the health and well-being of the community in general through good medical care and safe, above-board recognition of sex workers. If you're particularly good at something, or really enjoy doing it and your enthusiasm offsets any weakness in skill-sets, what you're doing doesn't injure anyone non-consensually and doesn't damage property that isn't yours, and you want to do it as a job, go for it!

This is -also- an excellent example (someone asked me about this last week) about the issue of legislating morality. Making prostitution illegal is nothing more than legislating morality. There is NO reason beyond enforced religious bias why prostitution should not be completely legal and regulated.

That's like saying a man taking a woman out to dinner and then having sex with her afterwards 'paid her' to have sex with him. Are we supposed to stop going on dates or just give up the booty for nothing?

Or how about a man who buys a huge diamond ring for his girlfriend to marry him and then she sleeps with him afterwards and there's an unspoken promise that she'll continue to sleep with him as his wife... is that prostitution since he's given her something of great monetary value and she had sex with him and plans to for a very long time?

And you can't really argue that those acts are innocent. 'Ignorance of the law is no excuse.'

DesFIP -> RE: Are We Prostitutes? (6/22/2009 12:45:40 PM)

I guess I'm guilty under the definition. If we play before lunch, I expect him to take me out to lunch afterwards as otherwise I'm at risk of crashing. And if I haven't made lunch beforehand it's asking a lot out of me to produce more than a slapdash sandwich afterwards. Of course lots of people take their girlfriends out for a meal when they're too tired to cook.

I'm curious as to all these subs who get tribute. I rarely get a chocolate bar, so what am I doing wrong?
And yeah, will work for chocolate! [:D]

I totally beleive in legalized prostitution. You generate revenue, taxes, healthcare for the women, no more pimps, gets the kids out of there, prostitution will always be here one way another, so why not let it work for you. Morality is an individual's own concern and no ones elses

hey just ..are you a cop ? sounds like it ..if so tell your good buddys to worry about other crimes where people are getting hurt ..like rape ..muggings ..robbery ...murder ...what happens behind closed doors between 2 consenting adults should be none of the cops business as far as im concerned [:)] if the ladys charge ..its up to the person to pay it ..all in good nature of course because he is paying for a service ..no one gets hurt ..no one is harmed ..tell cops to eat more donuts or go out there and do their real job instead of hassling people that just want to have fun [:)] ok just ? good day ..mal

If was a cop, I'd know the law and the answer and would not have to ask the question

FR, after read thru

I'm gonna go a step further than the others who've posted so far & say that making prostitution illegal is a moral wrong . . . .

My fave example of why I think this is so is serial homicide: prostitutes are one of the preferred victim groups, in part because of its illegality. That illegality essentially puts cops & serial killers on the same side in 'opposition' to prostitutes . . . . . (An extreme example, yes . . . . . )

sweetsub1957 -> RE: Are We Prostitutes? (6/22/2009 1:27:03 PM)

You say prostitute like it's a bad thing or something.  As far as i'm concerned it's just a service occupation like any other.  Technically, Aanyone that receives monetary compensation for sexual activities is a prostitute, aren't Tthey?  But couldn't that mean directly or indirectly, such as "putting out" after being taken to dinner & a movie....or the stay-at-home spouse who has all her or his needs taken care of by the working spouse & then they have sex  too.....the pro Dominant or submissive.....if you include direct and indirect payment, there a lot of things that could be called prostitution.  i guess i just don't see anything wrong with it.  If there weren't a demand, there wouldn't be people offering the supply.  Everyone who's ever been a teenager knows that guys have wanted gals to put out at the end of a date, probably since time began....there's always been the "I paid for this, so you owe me sex" idea, so what else is new?  If it were legalized, then prostitutes wouldn't be crime victims so often.....and a lot of people wouldn't have to be sneaking around.

You say that like it's a bad thing. Who are you to judge?

Another thread on omg! Prostitutes!

A Pro sub, Pro Domme, and a prostitute will be up front with you as to what they want and expect and what they are going to cost you. Many men's wives did not do that. :) If you are a slave or sub you still cost something, food, shelter, etc.
Everything is a trade-off. You do something for me, I do something for you. There has to be an exchange of energy, however two or more consenting adults choose to do it.

I am sorry if you see it a judgemental. I did not imply what my position was, I did not say what my position was. but I will remove all doubt
A pro provides a service which is in demand if there was no demand, he/she would have to find a job elsewere. The only morals I concern myself are my own. What other people do is up to them. As far as what the non pros do, that is between the individuals who are effected by it. To each his own
I simply said if statement A was correct and statement B is correct, does that make the conclusion correct, then I asked for opinons

the government has hit craig's list pretty hard and while I support their efforts,

You do?  It seems to me that driving sex workers further underground is a sure way to make them more defenseless and vulnerable, at the same time as more women (and men) will consider such jobs as a source of income because of the crappy economy.  It's a recipe for human misery.

I support their efforts as it is not so much their concern about the sexworkers, it is more about getting the underaged children to safety

Don't believe the hype.   People without something more solid use that as a reason, much as law enforcement bodies used have used "Communists" and "terrorists" to scare people into thinking their BS must be true.  The Craig's List lawsuit is going forward because of a police department participating with a private law firm; the Attorney General wasn't even on board to prosecute.  Of course they are going to talk about little kids on television.  A government press release is not the same as the truth.

After reading a post about submissives requiring tributes I started wondering

A prostitute by legal definition is someone who engages in a sexual activity in exchange for money or goods

If activities that make use of the genital areas of the anatomy constitute sexual activity
IE- Strapon play, ass play, cbt, dilation, enemas, body worship, orgasm control, fisting, queening, rimming and watersports. Items such as vibrators, dildos or butt plugs that come into contact with genitals

Then anyone accepting tributes is therefore classified as a prostitute and guilty of acts of prostitution

Yes? No? Maybe?

who cares?

first off, I think prostitution of any kind should be completely legal.

secondly, if I lived near a place where prostitution was legal (e.g. the bunny ranch) I'd most certainly use its services.

and number three, I adore the idea of professional subs, although I don't think such a thing exists. is it a form of prostitution? I suppose...kinda. I don't really care about such categorizations. all I know is someone offers a service and I'm willing to offer them something they desire.

Born2BMasochist -> RE: Are We Prostitutes? (6/22/2009 2:51:10 PM)

Not to mention, usually when you see a prostitute getting busted the first question a peace officer asks is " Do you know this person?" If you can produce evidence you are friends, they can not hold you on prositution charges. I would suggest that you maybe research the word prostitution more to get an accurate meaning on it.
