Every year 15 million children die of hunger
The assets of the world's three richest men are more than the combined GNP of all the least developed countries on the planet.
Every 3.6 seconds someone dies of hunger
It is estimated that some 800 million people in the world suffer from hunger and malnutrition, about 100 times as many as those who actually die from it each year.
From http://library.thinkquest.org/C002291/high/present/stats.htm
Except news like this doesn't jam up the internet.

the allegations will always exist and cast a negative shadow over his life for those that choose to focus on them. it is easy for outsiders to sit in judgment, when our deeds, bloops, and blunders never find their way to the public forum. i wonder how humble we'd become if our family was aware of those little indiscretions we kept hidden, or all the things we've done that we laugh about on anonymous forums but would rarely tell another unless we trusted them implicitly. imagine if your conspirators were willing to speak for a price. imagine your life in front of a camera that never stops shooting.

imagine...

we can't, we can never understand his reality. we can only read snippets shared by those that were near and others that have shared their opinions and impressions. those that are parents can grasp in some capacity the inordinate sacrifices he made to achieve what he has. we were blessed by his musical genius and numerous parties benefited from his generosity. but it came at a very steep price and with all the fame and wealth that accompanied, it never made up for what was lost.

the saddest part is that no one knows if he was truly happy, if he passed away with a smile, or if he found the peace that it would seem had eluded him until now. many things have been said and will continue to be stated. what i do know is that three children have lost a parent and must spend their lives raised by others instead. i can't say if that is better for them than the life they held, but regardless of how we view him as outsiders they knew him best.

i can't imagine walking in his shoes. i can't imagine living and seeing the things he has witnessed. i can't fathom having parents so focused on success at the expense of my well being and happiness. i have seen people become far worse in other circumstances. perhaps he like most of us made the best of the hand he was dealt and for the most part we all benefited in some capacity.

what i wish for most if that he has peace and that in time those that truly loved him can reconcile his sudden death and find solace in their hearts.

sometimes i'm shocked by the degree of vileness (not to mention ignorance, but that's a separate issue) found in many of the posters who frequent this section. probably why i try to stay away most of the time.

anyway, Michael Jackson was an amazing, wonderful human being who touched many millions of lives through not simply his music but his charity and compassion. how many of us will be able to say the same when our chapters close? the man will be missed sorely by me and many millions of others. i hope that he is at peace now.

I second that emotion.

Michael Jackson was a great, great entertainer, who composed and sang songs that wished peace and love for all of mankind.

He was certainly no angel.

But, for those of you have so blithely expressed such heartless, sophomoric judgments, grounded in such hypocritical, pompous moralizing--may you be held to the same standards you are applying, by people who exhibit similar levels of compassion.

Believe it--there is no shortage of "moral" people who think you perverts should die and "rot in the open," too.

Judge yourselves by the worst things you've ever done or, worse yet, been accused of doing, and see what you look like.

As Michael said, talk to "the man in the mirror."

Let's see what you see.

I find respect for someone in death a bit strange, so yes, I do agree there.  The rest, well... alleged - acquited and for me, rather less grotesque than cheapo cock pic.[:'(]
I actually found him quite beautiful.

I find the sorrow for him a bit strange.  Personally, I believe he is far better off without people in general after the way he has been treated.  I feel sorrow for me - because it's a loss of part of my history.  As an icon, he will always suffer people who are iconoclasts -  I don't really take much notice of such antics to let them touch me in a negative way -  it's only fear that makes people get all caught up in iconoclasm - sometimes envy.  I was going to avoid posting, because it's a pretty embaressing thread on the whole and it's definately made me question other peoples motives and my own integrity and the relationships and respect I have with others.   However, occurances like the passing of Jackson are great spring cleaning days... days of epiphany -  The reality is, there is no act that is more evil than another, regardless what people want to believe about hurting another.

But then, not responding - well - that would deny me the right of voicing my - hmmmmm.... regret is the wrong word because I believe his passing is pretty much a positive thing for his timeline - and sorrows the wrong word... loss doesn't cover it because he has been pretty silent for the past 10 years more.
I believe that, more than anyone else in a cultural sense, Jackson has highlighted just how evil and malicious people can be and has put under the spotlight just how flawed humanity really is - and just how unhappy - this thread being a fine example.  And I think that is what touches me the most about his death.

You can???

Then, by all means, go ahead!

Let us all know the worst thing you've ever done or been accused of doing!

And I mean, the worst thing!  Not just the worst thing you are willing to cop to in public!

Come on.  I'll wait...

This is just so much ridiculous, sanctimonious, judgmental nonsense...

Give Michael Jackson his propers, and let him rest in peace.  Then, hope people will do the same for you, when your time comes.

Michael Jackson was one of the greatest entertainers you will ever see, and he cared about humanity.

When a drought was devastating Africa, he wrote "We Are the World," and helped to raise money for relief that saved countless lives.

I'm sure you did as much.

I know that if I was blessed to have half of his talent, and to put it to half as good use as he did, I would be very blessed, indeed.

It is easy to judge others, not so easy to be judged.

I'm not a churchgoer or a Bible thumper.  Quite the opposite!

But for those of you who deem yourselves qualified to judge the life of another from your perch on high, let me get Biblical:

Matthew 7:1-6 1 Judge not, that ye be not judged. 2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again. 3 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? 4 Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye? 5 Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye. I don't think I knew how much I truly loved Michael and his music until he died.

I, for one, will miss him, and never forget him.

This is very true: we will never know for sure. However, he was vindicated after a trial by jury.

This is also very true. One of the tragedies of humanity is that we can never know what it is truly like to be in someone else's skin.

Lockit -> RE: Michael Jackson taken to the hospital (6/26/2009 3:58:39 PM)

LOL... Blaakmaan, you really do not want to get into scripture with me!  Let me warn you now. I was in the ministry for many years.  I will not argue scripture as per scripture and what it says, but you don't want to start pulling out scripture in a manner of trying to judge me, correct me or challenge me.  I could name a number of scriptures that would put you to shame for what you just said.  We are to be wise and know the world but be not of it.  We are not to judge as god judges, but we are... we are.. to see the fruit of a person and evaluate that!

If we are looking upon the fruit of another, it could be seen as a judgement... but isn't always done for judgements sake.  My words about this man are not a judgement, but an evaluation of his own fruit, for which you and I see things differently.  Now.. I did not call you names, but you did us.  I am very happy to leave the judgement of this man to god, but here on earth, in this body I will damn well evaluate what I see and have gotten from his own words and results of different things.  That is all I have to use and believe me, I heard a report that I cannot talk about here and prove because I was contacted by a mod and reminded that we are not to talk about certain things.

Now as for my earthly works... you might be very surprised!  No I did not have the money to do what he did, but I lived my life serving mankind in many, many ways and I have saved lives, I have been on the highways and byways and the streets of inner city loving, helping, preparing and teaching.  I have changed lives too.  I have housed people, feed them from my own kitchen and have worked with um's most my life.  The last was one I spend five hours counseling online and his mother said that he was a changed person because I got to the pain and ministered to it and gave him tools to use to help himself.  And that is about all you are going to get mister, but some have seen news paper articles about me and some of what I did.

Now... as for looking in the mirror.  I have been examining myself for many years... since before I went into the ministry to this day.  Do I have faults?  You bet your ass I do.  But none consist of anything unlawful or soul degrading.

As for what I have been accused of... the director before me at the shelter accused me of stealing ten dollars that was left in the desk when she cleared out.  I had witnesses that the desk was empty and did not steal.  I have been accused of only wanting cock from men... which is not the truth and only said by two men who were cheating on me.

What have I done wrong... I lied before... I have stolen candy when I was a kid... I have been impatient and prideful sometimes. All for the most part I deal with as needed.

Now you big boy.... let's hear your story.

PS... I missed something.  The worst thing I have done.  I hurt someone very badly when I kicked her out of the shelter for something she did not do, but everyone pointed at and there was no way to know for sure and I had to go with the witnesses, who later got kicked out when I learned of this.

I have also been a slut!

angelikaJ -> RE: Michael Jackson taken to the hospital (6/26/2009 4:23:08 PM)

FR

What strikes me as interesting is that many of the people who are figuratively are dancing on MJ's grave are the same ones who where pretty much horrified at another poster expressing his desire to piss on his dad's.

I understand why it is such a triggering topic on both sides of the fence.

I have compassion for those who have been victims or who love victims of sexual abuse.

I remember the good he did for others such as Ryan White and yes, co-creating We Are The World.

What ever wrong he may have done is not excused by the fact that it has been apparent that he has been in his own hell for many years.

We will never know everything.

It is as if there are 2 Michaels.

I remember Michael the boy, Michael the young man.
Michael the visionary before becoming Michael the strange.

As sad as the end is, maybe it is a doorway to peace.
