Ron, the world will weep and moan. Much gnashing of teeth and tearing of hair. It will be a sad sad day.

That's fine if that's how it is for you, but I can't help but feel a little sad that you've never been moved so completely by another's work as to feel an emptiness knowing that their creative flame has been extinguished.

I can see this, but I suspect that, for me, the loss of the individual is less profound when I am surrounded by their body of work, and can, in a sense, touch their essence again any time just by opening up a book.

I've never been profoundly impressed by death. If I've done nothing memorable in my life, then it is fitting that I be forgotten once I pass to dust -- but for the true artist, to me xhe never dies, because death can never come when you lay a piece of your self into each piece of work you leave behind. To me, I guess I see it that only the body, an empty husk... a banana peel on the path of existence... is left behind to mourn... and the body wasn't why I paid attention to them in any case.

Dame Calla

Paul Stanley.
He's the reason I'm a musician, and will always be my idol. Others have saddened me...Freddie Mercury, Ray Gillen. (Two of the greatest singers I've ever heard)
But Paul Stanley's passing would mess me up big time!

Melissa Etheridge--just because!
She may or may not be an icon--but to be an out lesbian muscian --well who cares about any of that--just she's a good musician and her lyrics usually are meaningful!
And she doesn't lip synch like KD Lang!

Dick Cheany... or Rush Limbaugh... or Bill O'Riley...  I'd have to go buy a bottle of very expensive wine, and pour it on each of their graves as a symbol of all the respect I have for them both... (Of course, I'd pass it through my liver first....)

Oh, wait, when you said "rocked", you meant...

meh, john lennons solo stuff was pretty weak

I was always holding out hope that  it was just a phase he was going through, a bit of a dry spell. I was kinda hoping he'd come out the other side of it with something interesting to say. I'm not sure how realistic that was, but it at least seemed possible. Fucking Chapman.

For me, it tends to be writers.
I miss the hell out of Caroline Knapp.

I think Robert Redford will be a surprise, but Clint Eastwood ... I still don't see how it is possible for him to be 79.

Musicians:
Ronnie Gilbert and of course Pete Seeger.
Joan Baez
Janis Ian

My Dad listens to Joan Baez all the time, I love alot of her songs

when Jack King Kirby died, for one who aspired then "did it for pay" like myself...

well, it was worse than what Stan the Man will be.

No Jack would have meant no Stan, no X-Men, no Marvel, period.

and on that subject:

I will (for reasons not to be publically divulged) be BADLY rocked if (from THIS community and ITS celebrities)  Kiri Kelly or Tanya Fox were to fall.

Kiri Kelly and Tanya Fox, in the bdsm film world, are to femsubs (particularly those whom can take REAL spankings, and in the case of Tanya, real NAZZZZZZZZTY Greek as well),

what Jane Mansfield and Sophia Loren are to "Nilla Film" world.
