quote:
ORIGINAL: Darcy (Darcyandthedark) That's fine if that's how it is for you, but I can't help but feel a little sad that you've never been moved so completely by another's work as to feel an emptiness knowing that their creative flame has been extinguished. I can see this, but I suspect that, for me, the loss of the individual is less profound when I am surrounded by their body of work, and can, in a sense, touch their essence again any time just by opening up a book. I've never been profoundly impressed by death. If I've done nothing memorable in my life, then it is fitting that I be forgotten once I pass to dust -- but for the true artist, to me xhe never dies, because death can never come when you lay a piece of your self into each piece of work you leave behind. To me, I guess I see it that only the body, an empty husk... a banana peel on the path of existence... is left behind to mourn... and the body wasn't why I paid attention to them in any case.
