Aneirin -> RE: If CM was a British Pub? (7/2/2009 3:16:20 AM)

Got to have a quiz night, like the one I set the questions for last night, questions on local history, to educate those that had lived in the village all their lives. Me, I am an incomer, but the village is where my ancestors come from, so I sort of belong. Yes Johnny, the pub was the Royal Oak and I had a question on that, very few knew the answer to. My local is a British pub, the village a one time Royalist stronghold, hence the pub name. Anyways, it caters totally for the patrons, which includes ''suggest an ale'' to get in, a wine like description of the qualities of the ale, it's 'nose'and it's alcohol content, the more the better, dark ale, real ale. Yeah, there is cloudy cider, but it makes my teeth scream, so I keep off. The music is strictly aimed at the majority, so sixties, seventies and eighties stuff, just to unsettle the errant wandering chav and let them know, this is not a lager den. We have live bands, all of which are local and sometimes terrible, but who cares once the beer is in and we have a cruise organised for August, where the pub has rented a seventy year old ferry boat which will at high tide come alongside the pub and take us on a beer cruise up around the rivers and soundfor a few hours, then back to the pub for a hog roast and band. The pub is a pet friendly pub, peoples dogs sleeping on the floor, wandering around looking for attention, scrounging food and being fed beer. The clientele include locals, squaddies, yachties, navy, building trades, french, fishermen, divers, long distance waggon drivers of all nationalities, especially them from the north east whom no one can understand, a resident US veteran who stayed here after he came back from the liberation of france, he has become Britishified enough to jovially wind up the occasional American visitors who are here for the Pilgrim steps. in all, a real pub with interesting people and always a delight to visit.
