May be off topic ... but I need to get this off my mind. I live in a housing co-op for Artists who have Families. Our vacancy rate is current as far as I know. The other day we had a selection committee meeting to admit a new member due to a vacancy we have. I sat there and listened to the applicants answers to our inquires about their art and there goals as an artist. All I could hear from the applicant was that their emphasis was being a Marketing Director FOR THE ARTS. but not an artist in an of it self. IT is true that the applicant brought with them 4 pieces of art to demonstrate their time worked IN art but it was not what I would call a body of work that represented a portfolio of artistic work. After the applicant left I expressed my concerns to the committee and after a short discussion we decided to recess for 24 hours to consider the dilemma. The more I thought about it the more I came to the conclusion that this community was created on the principal of Artists themselves, not persons who were the business end of the arts (Literary Agents, Talent Scouts, Marketing Specialists, Event Planers, or even gallery owners). We meet a second time to take the vote I expressed the my concern concisely while expressing that I spent a significant amount of time trying to justify the admittance of this household to our community. The vote arrived at 4 in favor; 1 against (my self). I am sitting here wondering was I really that bad of a person to stand up for the criteria of why the co-op was established or am I being the stick in the mud for my opinions.
