Aida
Carmen
Il Trovatore
La Traviata

intenze -> RE: The Odd One Out (7/26/2009 2:56:00 PM)

Carmen is an opera by Bizet. The other three are by Verdi.

fluffypet61 -> RE: The Odd One Out (7/26/2009 2:57:46 PM)

YES! It's your turn, intenze.

intenze -> RE: The Odd One Out (7/26/2009 3:18:54 PM)

piano
pianissimo
pizzicato
fortissimo

fluffypet61 -> RE: The Odd One Out (7/26/2009 3:22:49 PM)

pizzicato - all the others relate to how LOUD or quiet to play a section of music. (Dynamic)

intenze -> RE: The Odd One Out (7/26/2009 8:11:52 PM)

yes!! you win!!! pizzicato is plucking a string.

fluffypet61 -> RE: The Odd One Out (7/26/2009 8:14:35 PM)

Times New Roman
Courier New
Arial
Rockwell

dcnovice -> RE: The Odd One Out (7/26/2009 8:19:20 PM)

Arial is the only one without serifs?

Rockwell is the only one not available on CM?

fluffypet61 -> RE: The Odd One Out (7/26/2009 8:21:53 PM)

i was thinking of the first  - no serifs.

Your turn next DC

dcnovice -> RE: The Odd One Out (7/26/2009 8:25:57 PM)

NEW QUARTET:

Esquire
The New Yorker
Talk
Vanity Fair

intenze -> RE: The Odd One Out (7/27/2009 8:52:13 AM)

Esquire is not Conde'Nast?

dcnovice -> RE: The Odd One Out (7/27/2009 8:53:05 AM)

Esquire is the one I was thinking off, but not for that reason.

fluffypet61 -> RE: The Odd One Out (7/27/2009 11:15:28 AM)

Esquire started out as a racy publication for men and later mellowed?

dcnovice -> RE: The Odd One Out (7/27/2009 11:17:59 AM)

I didn't know that, actually. This one may be too obscure, given that it relies on following the publishing world.

Two hints:

(a) Three of the magazines have had a famous editor in common.

(b) Talk could also be the answer, for a different reason.

fluffypet61 -> RE: The Odd One Out (7/28/2009 8:35:46 AM)

1) OK, DC, i've got Tina Brown as editor of Vanity Fair (1984-1992) and The New Yorker (1992-1998). She created Talk magazine in 1998 and was it's editor.
So, Esquire is the odd one out.

2) Unless you want to accept Talk as the odd one out, since it is no longer in publication.

dcnovice -> RE: The Odd One Out (7/28/2009 8:49:50 AM)

You're right on both counts, fluffy. Brava!

fluffypet61 -> RE: The Odd One Out (7/28/2009 8:57:12 AM)

Amazon
Barnes & Noble
Books-A-Million
Borders

mnottertail -> RE: The Odd One Out (7/28/2009 8:59:40 AM)

Amazon starts with an A, the rest with B's....

I know that is not it, but you see the unintended consequenses here, right?

intenze -> RE: The Odd One Out (7/28/2009 9:07:32 AM)

fluffypet61 -> RE: The Odd One Out (7/28/2009 9:33:46 AM)
