Sanity -> RE: 10 Week Low amid Talks of New Stimulus (7/8/2009 6:57:45 AM)

In a world where the clouds are made of cotton candy, socialism works perfectly. In reality, people are motivated by the promise of a reward for their risks and for their hard work.

Socialists don't get that, despite having read up on Darwin and his theories.

No, you're right.

I think the proper term would be blatant greed.

Our State Dept. condemns China's human rights abuses while we are pouring money into the country to support the regime that is responsible for those abuses.

It's a fact of life in a global economy. G M sells more cars in China than they sell in the U S.

Out of curiosity, do you think the fact of a global economy is the problem?

How could GM compete with car companies like Toyota when Japan has subsidized health care?

Something I've noticed you are also against.

Well I do congratulate you Sanity, that was an amazing attempt at misdirection.

Now can we get back to how you justify investing in the very things that you condemn?

servantforuse -> RE: 10 Week Low amid Talks of New Stimulus (7/8/2009 7:15:49 AM)

I think that it might be part of the problem. It is not going to change though. Our companies started to move overseas 30 + years ago. We should have changed the tax structure way back then to make it easier and more profitable for them to stay on shore. Now the horse is out of the barn. It's to late,.

Sanity -> RE: 10 Week Low amid Talks of New Stimulus (7/8/2009 7:27:04 AM)

Misdirection? You're the one who is trying to wander off into a human rights discussion, in an apparent attempt to make this a purely emotional issue. I'm just talking facts, as in (on topic now), Obama's policies are driving the stock market down and driving business ventures offshore.

OrionTheWolf -> RE: 10 Week Low amid Talks of New Stimulus (7/8/2009 7:40:49 AM)

Actually ever since I read what the tax cut consists of (thanks to I believe RML) there are some ways to lower taxes, and defer taxes. It will take more digging, and businesses will need their accountant or Business Consultant to explain how, but it does help.

The stock market will not recover anytime soon. With businesses big and small bearing the brunt of ever increasing regulations and higher taxes, people will sit on the sidelines with their investment dollars. A pro-business administration that would lower taxes is what we need now...

OrionTheWolf -> RE: 10 Week Low amid Talks of New Stimulus (7/8/2009 7:45:02 AM)

Uhhh, guys. 10 week low in stock market amid talks of a new stimulus?

So has anyone seen any suggestions on exactly what a new stimulus would consist of? Last I read only 10% of this recent stimulus had been spent, so why would people talk about a new stimulus? Aren't those the ones that are saying give it time? The other side is, if we continue to spend into the red, won't it be the next few generations that pay for that? Isn't that some of the criticism of the last admin?

Investors were moving offshore into China and India for years, and you know it, so let's not pretend Obama caused that.

And no, I'm not trying to make it an emotional issue but an issue of principle.

Which I think is very much on-topic because I believe your "business-is-business" philosophy is what has created most of the economic problems in this country.

In business we no longer feel any responsibility to anything but the bottom line.

Mercnbeth -> RE: 10 Week Low amid Talks of New Stimulus (7/8/2009 8:05:38 AM)

"CHANGE!" - "TIME!" - Hoping that the next battle-cry is "ENOUGH!"

Capital, both intellectual and economic, is leaving the US as soon as they can implement an exit strategy.

One thing accomplished by the Administration that couldn't be accomplished by GM and Chrysler management; they have gotten more union concessions. Plant closings, dealerships closing; meanwhile industry, at least any where the pay scale isn't minimum wage, being compared to NAZIS by the prophet Al Gore. You would expect the founder of the internet would have heard the unwritten internet rule - "when you bring a comparison to Hitler or the Nazis into the argument - you've lost."

Does this represent a fertile ground for investment?

However, it's really not a broken campaign promise. He did say he was pro-union; he just left out the modifier PUBLIC employee unions, aka bureaucrats. But those who hired the PAC lobbyists, management, did get their bonuses - so it was money well spent on the campaign.

I don't know - anyone else had "ENOUGH"?

The 10 week low is still 1600 points higher than what we saw at, hopefully, what was the bottom a few months ago.

And while it may be a 10 week low it has been bouncing around within a few hundred points of that number, so I think the article is a little bit of the chicken little syndrome Calla mentioned.

There is also a theory running around that the stock market was running at over-inflated, unsustainable levels.  A stock bubble fed by the housing bubble, and just like with housing this is a natural market correction.

Oh hell yes!

I mean its been 5 1/2 months already.

How much time are we going to give this guy?  I say we impeach him.

Now where's Monica when you need her?

Rule,
Maybe you should regroup and decide which Administration and Democratic party position you want to champion. The one which is saying it's time for another 'Stimulus", or the side saying we need more "TIME!"?

And really bringing out Monica? Talk about having an attempt at "misdirection"? Is desperation setting in?

Sanity -> RE: 10 Week Low amid Talks of New Stimulus (7/8/2009 12:12:01 PM)

At this point Orion, talk of new "stimulus" only brings to mind the image of multitudes of circus clowns dressed as firemen climbing out of tiny little GM clown cars carrying buckets full of dollars and throwing them at a bonfire blazing in the middle of their three-ring tent.

It's not hypocrisy at all. Business is business. The wealthy can't invest in the U.S.  - Obama has declared war on Capitalism.

And the money has to go somewhere.

LMAO. I can hear the violins playing. "Greed" is what drives individuals, companies and countries to greatness and allows the great ones to share their success with the less fortunate. Without greed we would be stuck in the 19th Century...at best.

servantforuse -> RE: 10 Week Low amid Talks of New Stimulus (7/8/2009 6:48:23 PM)

Pouring money into the regime in China ? Right now they are the only ones willing to buy our debt. We will regret this in the future but it is the only way the Obama administration can even begin to pay some of this debt.

Some people can never get enough heh?

Thanks for proving what I said about the right being intellectually bankrupt and in desperation mode.

And no, this statement is too silly to even dignify with a proper response.

No desperation at all.  Can I ask you the same?

Because you seem determined to brand Obama and his policies a failure before they have been given a fair chance.

Which perfectly illustrates my point on how misguided the business community and investors have become.

Reading some of your other posts I assume you follow the traditional conservative "family values".  So how does the concept of greed fit in with that?
