HOLY SHIT is this Fucking RETARDED.

Bleeding Hearts and LOOSE ASSHOLES Need to Fucking Chill.

If they were still being REQUIRED to stay on Reservations I would Agree however The Treatys that pay them remain however the restrictions that made those Treatys Available DO NOT.

Do I think what happened to the Native American People is Wrong ... Yup I do. Do I think I am responsible? Abso-fucking-lutely NOT. The Taxes that pay the monthly stipen are part of law I do not get upset about it, sure I no longer think it is right that they get it since they are afforded EVERY LAST SAME CHANCE ANYONE ELSE IS AFFORDED. There are scholarships SPECIFICALLY MADE FOR NATIVE AMERICANS. You Get a FULL RIDE SCHOLARSHIP Simply BECAUSE you were Born from Native Americans. There are GRANTS that ONLY Native Americans can get, there are Business loans that are Granted only on the basis that it is backed by the Tribal Council and part of that backing means there is NO GUARANTEE on getting paid back.

Food stamps however are NOT part of the Treaty, they are gotten because they STAY on the reservation and do not work.

What upsets me even more is that when they quality for state assistance it is in ADDITON to Tribal Benifits meaning they do not have to claim Tribal Benifits when they apply for state assistance and are even told that Tribal Assistance is NOT INCOME!

This Thread is not about Native American Rights and Wrongs, and for those who think we owe them something just go to a reservation and ASK SOMEONE Why they do not have a Job and why they stay on the reservation.

I was told by EVERYONE I TALKED TO...... " Because it's Free"

If that is your idea of Fair, then basic education is the very least of your problems.

Fair doesn't enter into it. We made a binding agreement with them. I don't care that you don't like it but the rule of law requires that our government honor the treaties it signs or we could break them all and return all the land covered by those treaties. I know my cousins would like northern GA, AL, western NC, SC and most of TN back. I'm sure the Saginaw and other Ojibwe would like essentially the entire upper midwest back. Same goes for the Navajo, Apache etc out west

Vendaval -> RE: Food stamps at record highs (7/8/2009 3:01:16 PM)

I am going to echo what Lockit said about how this kind of assistance can become difficult if a person or family looses their home or the particular state runs out of money. Food stamps and food banks are a necessity for many people who are unemployed or partially employed or taking cut-backs, temporary lay-offs, etc.

SteelofUtah -> RE: Food stamps at record highs (7/8/2009 3:01:18 PM)

DK,

Like I said The Treaties are LAW I can't complain, I do dislike the idea that the major consideration of those treaties were on the concept that they had to REMAIN on the reservation of they would forfiet thier right to them and NOW as AMENDMENTS to those Treaties Which is why the Dollar Ammounts have changed with inflation So the Treaties change one direction but not the other.

I have no issue with the Treaties that they are afforded however I am upset that it is not taken into account for state assistance which they are afforded because the nature of how they life if they stopped it would COST them more. What is the point in trying to better yourself when you lose so much by doing it.

It is this Abuse of the system that bother the hell out of me.

My paternal  family lives on the reservation...and many of them work and don't receive any benefits other than housing.(Double-wide, sweet double-wide) We have no casino, no luxury SUV's... nothing to envy, and yet reading some of the posts here, one is led to believe that all natives are living high on the hog at the poor taxpayer's expense.

Generalizations like this are what i meant by dehumanizing. i realize you don't mean it as a sweeping statement, i realize you aren't a bigot...but bigots will read your statement and use it for fodder to hold onto their narrow beliefs.

Now...back to food stamps. i've never been on them, though people may be shocked to discover such news based on my "demographic".

The thing is you're wrong.

In order to receive that money you do have to live on reservation land. Legally I'm cherokee, through a grandmother, but since neither she nor any of her descendants lived on a reservation we don't receive anything from the BIA.

servantforuse -> RE: Food stamps at record highs (7/8/2009 4:24:40 PM)

A friend and co-worker here in Wisconsin was 1/2 Onieda Indian. He recieved a very nice check every 6 months from casino profits. He lived in Milwaukee near me (not on a reservation) and at the time we were making in the mid $60,000 range.Nice gig. He was a little embarassed but never sent a check back nor should he have..

Glad there are programs like this since unemployment will likely top to 12%.

Real unemployment numbers are well over 12%, according to Shadowstats.

If the government was still calculating the unemployment rate using the same criteria and methods that had last been used during the Clinton administration, the “official” unemployment rate today would be closer to 18%.

Doing a heck of a job there Obammy

Nothing better than seeing the Saginaw Chippewa Indians roll up in their Lincoln Navigator, Tahoe, or Escalade, paid for by federal per cap, and then buy food with their bridge card (Michigan food stamps card).

Yeah, and those bastards tried to steal the rightful lands of the white man too!

What gets to me is the ABUSE of this system which is designed to help those who NEED IT, not those who see it as an Expectation.

Shortly after I moved to St George UT I remember going for my BIG "Get every fucking thing I need to cook for the next month" shopping trip. After an hour of Shopping I rolled up to the Check out where there were Three Polygamist Women (Trust me they are not difficult to Spot) and each had a cart FULL, More full than mine. And they were all together The total came to just over $1700.00 and then in DISGUST I watched as 2 of them Each took a Turn running thier EBT card (Food Stamp Credit Card) COVERING THE ENTIRE BILL.
Steel

They consider this "bleeding the beast" and well worthwhile.

I paid for my Groceries and went outside where I watched them load all the groceries into a BRAND FUCKING NEW 2006 Dodge Pickup extended cab. The Kicker is that all the Older boys were wearing the Contractor Shirts of the Construction company that their father owned. Who was who was sitting in the truck. This was during the Housing BOOM and I knew for a fact that they had just fininshed building 17 Million Dollar or more homes.

I was Disgusted but guess how this all works. Because they cannot be legally married you technically have a single mother with 4 or more kids who is also not working and this gives them the MAXIMUM amount of Assistance. The SICKEST part is that I know they also received $250.00 a Month CASH on the card for Other things.

They were not in NEED they just know how to fuck the system.

I was on Food stamps when andi had the Midget because even with working two jobs it wasn't enough to cover the bills and the food so in addition to WIC and The Help of some wonderful organizations we got what we needed but I got OFF of it as SOON as I could stand on my own two feet.

Shit just makes me Fucking Sick.

Anyone who Abuses systems gets what they deserve when there isn't anything left to abuse.

Steel

Just let them get married, like they want to.

Problem solved.

Next?

TheHeretic -> RE: Food stamps at record highs (7/8/2009 7:00:28 PM)

So are we doing food stamps here, or Indian affairs???  I'll go with the title topic, I guess.  Did anybody mention that the "stimulus" package included a nice raise for the recipients?  Bigger welfare handouts are how we get the economy moving, you know...

As so often with these programs, I am both glad we have them, and disgusted by the abuse and how they are administered.

servantforuse -> RE: Food stamps at record highs (7/8/2009 7:06:07 PM)

These programs were meant to be a safety net, not a hammock...

TheHeretic -> RE: Food stamps at record highs (7/8/2009 7:35:11 PM)

That's my line, Serva!  [;)]

slvemike4u -> RE: Food stamps at record highs (7/8/2009 7:42:55 PM)

Rich care to tell us the last time Welfare recipients received any increase at all?
Or perhaps you will let us no just how much more money these greedy bastards are getting as a result of this "raise"?
By the way....you do realise food stamps and welfare are actually 2 separate subjects...as in different benefits.Guess you decided to take the thread in a whole new direction.

servantforuse -> RE: Food stamps at record highs (7/8/2009 7:54:09 PM)

Get a raise on welfare ?..If you want a raise get off your butt and get a freakin job.

slvemike4u -> RE: Food stamps at record highs (7/8/2009 8:08:21 PM)

"Raise" was a term used by Heretic...I am sure it is not referred to as a raise officially. Most recipients will still have some difficulty keeping gas in their late model Cadillac convertibles. No need to worry at all.

servantforuse -> RE: Food stamps at record highs (7/8/2009 8:13:03 PM)

Gas is coming back down so they can keep the caddy. They might have to give up the Blackberry though..

TheHeretic -> RE: Food stamps at record highs (7/8/2009 8:17:55 PM)

That kinda depends, Mike.  "Welfare" has often become a catch-all word for federal poverty maintenance programs in general, instead of just the cash aid to families with dependent children more accurately described by the term.  In that sense, food stamps are welfare.

Short answer is yes, Mike, I know the difference.  And, as a rule, anyone actually getting welfare, is receiving food stamps as part of that.

13.6% increase in food stamp payments, effective April 1, 2009.  That's a noticeable bump in the wallet.

slvemike4u -> RE: Food stamps at record highs (7/8/2009 8:20:20 PM)

Ahhh Rich, but not everyone receiving Food Stamps is on welfare. All poodles might be dogs....but all dogs are not poodles!
