I quit smoking cold turkey for three years, then went back to smoking for a few months and decided I'm not going to smoke. I came across e cigarettes or electronic cigs. OH MY GOD! They are great. They don't smell. It consists of a vapor that you inhale from a cigarette shaped device so it's the closest thing to really smoking but your just getting the nicotine. No tar, no smoke etc. If you're a cigarette smoker I urge you to check it out. There's a bit of a learning curve. Go to youtube and type e cigarette. Tons of info.

Was just talking to someone the other day about smoking, and suprisingly, he use to be in the tabacco buisness.
He said that now more then ever cigarette companies are putting even worse stuff into them!

Yeah, I know someone who has one, it is impressive, but very expensive. The trouble with he, is that when he gets stressed, he needs real tobacco.

But was there a thread on here a while ago, that there are some in the US that are trying to ban the e- fag from being used in public.

But from my perspective as one of those constantly trying to quit, and I have tried many methods, I have found I have become cynical to what comes out next, another thing to try etc.

But to be honest, as a smoker, given I am aware of the dangers the government is constantly telling us about, I for one would prefer, if the stuff was banned altogether, that is, not available to buy. Forced cold turkey on the grounds that it is so dangerous for our health.

Why I constantly fail, I know, it is because I am a creature of habit and I don't get on very well with change. Being the way I am is my comfort, and for change to happen, it will take a strong other to override my comfort zone, forced cold turkey by action of it not being available, is just such a way I feel would work for me.

That may work for you, but what about people like your friend who as you say, when he gets stressed needs tobacco?  That would be really unhealthy for him.
If it works for you, maybe you just need someone to insist you don't smoke and not give you the option?

I think that it will be far more effective when the rotting legs that are amputated from smokers are suspended on ropes from the hospital outer walls. (A far relative of mine had her rotting leg amputated for that reason. At least that solved the non-problem of her unequal length legs. After the amputation she had only one by definition unique length leg left. Though I dunno whether it was her longer leg or her shorter leg.)

That person would have to be living with me, as my worst times are when I am at home on my own. I think a lot of it is a false sense of it helps me wake up and stay awake in the mornings, and late on when I am working late into the night on my creative pursuits. Going out, well I do smoke, but far less than when I am inside.

After my dance class on Tuesday, I went out for a smoke, on returning I was asked by a non smoker, did I feel better now, my answer to that after a moments pondering, was no, it is just an addiction.

To me, I would respect the authorities more if they did not speak with a forked tongue, if smoking is that evil and bad for us, ban it, instead of reaping the taxes from it's continued sale.

You can, as what exits the end, is water vapour, there should be no smell, yet some believe there is, so they try to ban it.

But what was the original intention to ban smoking in public, was it the smoke that was the problem, or was it the possibility of nicotine getting into the surroundings. Strange though, I have heard there is nicotine and many nicotine derivatives in many fruit and veg. The 'hit' that is in tobacco, is after all a natural chemical.

Indeed, if I recall  correctly, nicotine is simply a variety of vitamin B3. That is the reason that people who quit smoking start to eat huge amounts of food: their body is simply trying to acquire the enormous quantities of vitamin B3 that it has become accustomed to.

Edited to add: So when quiting smoking, it might help to take some extra vitamin B3 every day.

Good point, I will add that to my regime.

Vitamin B3, hang on a minute, that's niacin isn't it, been there before on that one, wonderfully trippy with the hot flushes that start low and move up the body in a wave of heat and tingling nerves.

Yeah, better than smoking, off to get a high strength B3.

Vitamin B3 Nicotinic acid, niacin, niacinomide

You find niacin in cereals such as Kelloggs Rice Krispies, though I'm not sure how many bowls or packets of Rice Krispies you would have to eat to replace a pack of 20 cigarettes.

As for the topic of the thread on e-Bay you can buy such e-cigarettes for as little as £25 and five capsules (one capsule apparently the equivalent of 300 inhalations or a pack of 20 cigarettes) sells for around £15, which is much cheaper than cigarettes here in the UK which are £4-£5.50.

If you're serious about quitting then to me it's definitely worth a try.

Too many. Taking B3 tablets makes more sense. I do not guarantee that they will make quiting easier - but in theory they should; in any case they will prevent getting fat because of eating too much.

A couple of hours ago I took 500mg of Niacin, and only now the flushing is wearing off, a most unusual sensation, a bit of itching too, but the interesting thing is, sparking up a smoke, I am just not interested in continuing with it, it holds no interest. Next time I do niacin, I will use antihistamine with it, that should quell some of the effects. Oh, I am also taking milk thistle too, but that just to help my liver along.

But as to the e-smoke, I will look into that, as the Nicorette inhaler, you know that white pen top thing is plain horrible, yes I have one.

Very interesting! An hypothesis of mine confirmed. Please keep us informed.

(The problem with those is....there are new studies indicating that they cause e-cancer).

That's the least of my problems Stella...I tried that whole cereal thing....do you have any fucking idea how ridiculous a 51 year old man looks driving down the freeway in a Toyota Prius trying to light a 42 ounce box of Malt-O-Meal?

One of my co-workers who was very sensitive to the smell of my cigarettes checked out the e-cig I used as quit smoking aid.  She never noticed any odor from that at all.  I think, since the tip glows, and a cloud of vapor can be seen in the exhale, people not familiar with them might expect a problem though.

if the necotine this product derives its efficacy from is ORGANIC nic from the SAME conepanies it's just their BULLSHIT way to try to still get $$ from addicts while claining to help fight addiction, and anyone helping them do so is a shill and deserves LUNG CANCER.

The only SAFETY is in not having nicotine wnter the body at ALL and the people that have the best track record of this are smokers that suffer cold turkey, not patches or gums or inhalers or the new "tic-tac bullshit" OR this.

I used to smoke a MINIMUM of 15 per day, average 25 per day, OVER 60 on New Years and Christmas Eve, as an ADDICT (and if you smoked hard, you will ALWAYS be an addict, just in permanent 'recovery'), I can tell you,

just like CHAMPIX which Pharmo companies tried to ram down our throats several years ago and now Champix is being SUED...

it's just another con job from the unholy alliance of the PharmoPimps and TobaccoWhores.
