Conspiracy theories, those things we all or most  have, or at least secretly have, our own theories as to why things are, go on , get them out, post them here.

Me first......

1.The origin of HIV is a man made experiment that either got out of hand, or was released deliberately. Possibly an experiment into biological warfare, or to ensure the funds would be available for years of continued research and there wealth created.

2.The instances of various cold remedies coming out or being advertised at just such a time as the right type of cold symptoms are occurring, is very suspicious, maybe it is to stimulate sales, the various concerned labs are releasing the contaminants into the public theatre for the purpose of continued development and the wealth created.

3.War and threat is perpetuated for the sole purpose of increased control and wealth of the powerful.

4. We, the population of this planet, those of us who are not in a position of financial or governmental control are just cattle to they, to mold as they please for their own ends.

5. Organised religion is a construct of the clever who knew the minds of men.

There you go, my theories of madness, probably a load of hogwash in truth, but they are my conspiracy theories.

Whose next..........?

I suspect that your cold remedies hypothesis is not correct.

I am convinced there IS a cure for the common cold, but think of how much money the pharmaceutical companies would lose if it were known

Is there any indication to support your conviction? (Not asking what indication, merely whether such exists, however tenuous.)

none, Rule. It is just my own personal feeling. Probably because i have seen the total greed of the drug industry.

Well, when I have a cold or influenza, I sometimes take preventive anti-herpes medication because the herpes on the rims of my nostrils that accompanies my colds and influenza scares me far more than the cold or influenza itself.

I have got the impression that such anti-herpes medication, like gangcyclovir or zelitrex, when taken early during a cold or influenza reduces the severity of the cold and influenza as well.

My physician has never prescribed me anti-herpes medication. I got a batch gangcyclovir from a skin specialist who treated a glasses tumor behind my ear about fifteen years ago. I spread those 150 tablets over a decade. Should have used them more often, I suppose. Two years ago I got a smaller batch of 80 zelitrex tablets, of which I have 19 left.

If anyone has any left-overs, please send them to me.

I believe the Feds and states set up harsh drug conviction sentences for slave labor. We have an 85% law here for drug offenders (except under so many pounds of marijuana) that they have to do 85% of their time. Except for violent offenders (who deserve to do most of their time) can get out after doing a 6th on good time. The reason for the drug offenses is money. Most of the people in our prisons are in for drug offenses. The next time you walk into a government building, look at the furniture, the plastic signs hanging on the walls, the glass in the building, the wallpaper, the wood paneling, the upholstery, police uniforms, inmate uniforms, judges' robes, judges' gavels, etc.

It's almost all made with convict labor. You don't believe me, here's what government and non-profit groups can buy in my state from the convict made products:
http://www.acicatalog.com/

They don't pay them anything here, they pay them a few cents an hour in other states. It's slave labor. On top of that, the Feds give states grant money for each inmate they hold. So the states keep things as cheap as possible. They spend around 44 cents a day to feed inmates here (go out and try to eat 3 meals for 44 cents). The state pockets the rest. It is a damn conspiracy.

Highway funding, it's just a damn scam for the states to get our federal tax dollars, promise to improve roads, then never do it.

I could go on, but I need to think a little more.

I don't have any conspiracy theories, and I pretty much think they are all crap. In most cases things are the way they are simply because that's the way they are. Shit happens.

CONSPIRACY THEORY:
The Government starts most 'Conspiracy' theories to keep paranoid people occupied and distract others from scrutinizing reality as closely as they scrutize the Zapruder film.

Oh yeah, sure...I suppose you actually believe inmates crank out vehicle license plates.

I hate to mention this but I'm a masochist, Hitler's Concentration Camps, were mostly all privately owned businesses. Private companies bid for various contracts, I.G. Farbin, (makers of Bayer Asprin) bid and won the contract for the Zyclon B Gas. The crematoriums, were private bid contractors, with the winning contractor having it's name embellished on the oven doors. Recently, the warehouse of what was harvested from the inmates, their hair, etc;, was opened and sold off to various enterprises, the US wig market exploded offering cheap human hair wigs.

Prisons are a business, just like Art is a business.....but you all want to believe the prison system is for rehabilitation and punishment...and Art is for the glory of art.

Follow the money.

Conspiracy theories

They're like any other grand idea: conspiracy theories/religion/communism etc - they all serve a need to believe that there is something greater than the individual's mundane existence.

What was the fucking point of your little diatribe? You hate to mention the brutalities of concentration camps, because you're a masochist? What the fuck is that supposed to mean? What, you fantasize about being gassed? Whatever.

I read an interesting articla about conspiracy theories quite a while back. The gist of it was that as a species we had evolved to see patterns in chaos as this had obvious benefits, [tracking, hunting, signs of danger e.t.c.] but that now this same trait was turning round and biting us. As the world has become more complicated and far more difficult to understand man still looks for order/patterns in chaos but this time in a different enviroment hence the plethora of conspiracy theories which nearly all have one overiding theme, that of control by someone or something over an event that is for all intents and purposes completely random.

Of course!  Jared could tell you, it is the CENTRE that controls everything.  From that island.  Yeppers!

Surely Aneirin points 1 and 2 are conspiracy theories and 3, 4 & 5 are the basis of political philisophies.

My fave conspiracy theory , and no i don't believe it, is the hogwash peddled by David Ikye about us being ruled by a clan of reptile aliens - try reading one of the books they are seriously funny.

I have a crazy idea for a conspiracy theory but no rational person would believe it. It centers on some unearthly being who creates a universe in 7 days, the being places one man in this universe and later creates a woman from a rib. I'm sure it would be possible to weave in crazyness about the being sending their human child down to the world, that child being put to death and rising from death. I know, I know - its too far fetched to believe. Of course , if anyone did believe it then the really scary thing would be if a group of powerful people got hold of the conspiracy theory, persuaded others it was true and then used the stories as an excuse for suppressing the sexuality of some people, stopping women being in control of their own bodies and, this bit is really scary, made it an excuse for going to war and killing other people. Fortunately its an even wilder idea than the one about the reptiles.

Lets start a new conspiracy about corn flakes having been invented by Robin Hood as a way of trying to raise enough money to be cryogenically frozen and that he is now in a big freezer in the basement of David Bowies house.

I believe there is a conspiracy by oil companies to keep all cars from getting good mileage so they can sell more oil/gas.

Also a secondary conspiracy to keep us from switching to alternative fuels. Though they have allowed the use of ethanol, which is a total joke because you only get half the mileage with it.

Oooohhhh... I heard a new conspiracy theory the other day; I thought it was pretty darn clever.

I'm sure you've all heard about Obama's "Cap and Trade" program...

Well, the theory is that very soon we'll all have a set number of carbon credits we're allowed to use, and that in order to exceed that limit we'll have to barter with someone else who's willing to use less than his allowance and will trade us his excess.  Carbon credits could very well become a new monetary system... perhaps even the only one.

For students of Christian eschatology, it might be interesting to note that Carbon contains 6 protons, 6 electrons, and 6 neutrons.
