Status: offline 		I have a profile on fetlife and while I do use it sometimes I prefer the layout of CM and the message boards. With fetlife you have to join each discussion group you want to participate in to be to post. If you just want to read you can. There are people who were members and maybe still are and there is a discussion group just for them as well. There is really no searching capability other than by state so a state could have 20,000 kinksters to browse through and I don't know how they come up when you view whether it is by last on or what since I haven't bothered to read all the rules and regs. Like most things in life including CM, there are good things and then the not so good things.

Status: offline 		I belong to fetlife.  I prefer the forums here.  Over there you never know posts have been made if you do not belong to a group where the posts were made, or are friends with someone who belongs to that special group.  I prefer this type of venue.  All the posts are in an area that is readily accessible to all.

Firstly, I'm wondering if this thread will get deleted; my understanding is that there is some kind of blackout going on here about 'that site' . . . . .

Yep, I'm on both sites, same nick; each has its pluses & minuses. I kinda like that there's choices . . . . .

Never cared much for Alt & it's kin . . ..

Status: offline 		Watch this topic disappear.  CM is afraid that everyone here will migrate there, and they're handling that concern by censoring the site's name even in private emails.  Not well handled IMHO.

Status: offline 		I don't know why CM should worry.  I joined fetlife yesterday because a friend urged me to.  I took a look around, decided I had absolutely no interest in a networking site, and was completely unimpressed by the layout of it, anyway.  I asked the administrators to remove my profile, which they haven't done yet.

You're mistaken.  The thread isn't going anywhere and to the best of my knowledge, nothing is being censored in email.  I just sent mail between two test accounts and neither fetlife or fetlife.com were removed.  If it was happening before, I can't say as I've never had occasion to email about that site and I'm not involved in the decisionmaking process on that side of the site. 

Discussion about other sites here is not and never has been, a problem.  If somene is advertising other personals sites in our forums, that's another matter entirely.

Status: offline 		I'm AllyB on FetLife.  I like the fact that I can choose "Sadomasochist" rather than "dominant, switch, submissive, or slave".  Better choice, in that respect. 
I've had no such censoring in my cmails here.  I've made friends from both sites, each has a different attraction.  I like both.

Huh.  There have been *numerous* complaints on Fetlife that CM has censored emails with the name of that site in them.  I'd find it hard to believe that this many people were making it up out of thin air, so I suspect that *something* went on here at least historically.  It would be good to get a definitive answer and clear up the issue.

There was a spam filter in place for a very short time that included fetlife as one of the sitenames it checked for.  I don't know exactly when the filter was lifted, but it was quite some time ago.

Status: offline 		& for a while 'fetlife' in a posting was rendered as 'f******' or something similar, it happened to something I posted it & I noticed, & I then noticed others discussing it in threads . ... . I even, asshole that I am, took glee in circumventing whatever auto-filter was at work by posting f * e * t * l * i * f * e in some thread where it was appropriate . . . .

I'm heartily glad that whatever was going on has ceased. Censorship disappoints me . . . ..

I have to admit that I don't care much for fet, with the exception of the ability to post more pictures and the content of the pictures isn't censored.  I do like that it is easier to keep in touch with local people.  Other than that, I can't say I have much use for it.  The group structure is too much of a pain to follow and the lack of an edit feature is a huge pain.  I also don't care for the black background.  It's very hard on the eyes.

I didn't notice that. But I sure noticed the ads from Alt.com, which frustrate the hell out of me because (in typical Alt.com fashion) they constantly fuck up my browser.

As for Fetlife, I've got a profile there too, but I really don't have much use for the place. They've got a bazillion groups all devoted to the same topics, and it's impossible to keep track of anything. This place is a far, far better discussion forum.

And even if i don't always agree with the policies here, I can always at least see where they make sense - if not to me, then at least to the person who implemented them. And I can respect that. I can at least feel as though the place is being run by intelligent, responsible people. Whereas at FL, policies change on a minute-by-minute basis, seemingly driven only by whatever mod or admin happens to be awake that day. It's frustrating. They seem like nice people over there, but I think they're in over their heads.
