Hey, Prinny,

The Groups function in FL are the discussion groups . . . . One may read any & all threads in the groups, but to post one must join that group . . . . . Then, the posting box is at the bottom, last page, of each thread . . . . . Kinda cumbersome, & makes keeping up with threads a pain, for me . . . . . .

There are various ways of finding groups. The search function, or I also like to cruise people's profiles & look at what groups & fetishes they've selected to find new & interesting ones . . . .

Joining & leaving groups is fairly simple, & I join groups just so I'll be able to find them again . . . . . . & as a result I 'belong' to a seriously silly-large number of groups . .. . But I also have an out-of-control number of fetishes over there -- *bats eyes innocently* but there're so many interesting ones . . . . .

FR...
I created an account on fetlife.   Checked it out and found it to be frustrating.  I'm not interested in groups, joining or belonging, so it isn't of much use.  Funny thing, though, I get the same "hey, baby" emails over there that I get here from people in my area.

MissIdaho -> RE: fetlife (7/10/2009 11:00:48 AM)

a few have mentioned there is no search capability at fetlife, not true
upper right hand corner has search box, enter the name of the city
it is fully functional to search by cities, names, or words

STILL haven't figured out how to find a thread or post (where's the word post OR thread on the home page?).
I'm not much interested in groups either as i only play privately.
I can be anywhere in the UK in an hour's flight or maxi mum three hours drive and anywhere in europe maximum thrre hours flight. Maybe it's distance that makes US want to hook into groups?

The homepage has a list of the groups you've joined in the right hand column. It tells you which has new discussions (and how many new) since you have logged in last. And groups are the same things as forums. If you have a reason to post here you have a reason to post there...

MistressRouge -> RE: fetlife (7/10/2009 1:05:17 PM)

I am with you mal [:D]

I love Fetlife, and being able to have the freedom to upload BDSM photographs is a big bonus!

It might be a good idea for someone who is directly involved in CM policy decision making to make a clear statement

I don't know the reason for the imposition of the spam filter, nor its removal, nor how many url's were blocked (just fetlife, or more), but it seems to me that XI has made a clear statement on this thread.

NihilusZero -> RE: fetlife (7/10/2009 1:28:26 PM)

Aside from the lack of message fora on FL (a facet I'm obviously fond of), part of my not playing there much deals with a certain bit of escapism. FL appeared to attract a lot of fringe folks, many of whom I knew from other social circles...circles I wanted little to do with anymore. Maybe it's the fact that CM doesn't sport chic black colors in its layout, but I find more personal-lifestyle oriented people here and the site seems to comfortably travel under the 'hip' radar.

So, I guess my analogy is that I prefer CM for the same sort of reasons I'm not fond of pop music. And, I've run into some rather nifty folks here and kinda like it. [:)]

BOUNTYHUNTER -> RE: fetlife (7/10/2009 1:34:03 PM)

I am a member of both same id,I find fetlife more to my liking, ie being able to post pics that reflect my lifestyle..There is a group there call collarme refugees which I find funny,Many of the same "characters" here are there.. By the way mod 11 there is much speculation of whom you really are, they think they have you pinned down lol..smile..

yep, I'm with you, hated some of the overt unnecessary crudeness, I'd much rather the comfortable snarky arrogance we have here, way more classy.

I'm on both.  Same name for both.

I have to admit that I don't care much for fet, with the exception of the ability to post more pictures and the content of the pictures isn't censored.  I do like that it is easier to keep in touch with local people.  Other than that, I can't say I have much use for it.  The group structure is too much of a pain to follow and the lack of an edit feature is a huge pain.  I also don't care for the black background.  It's very hard on the eyes.

Totally agree to this Lady here...

am on both with similar names, over there i chose Phoenixfeather as over there it is more for me to write within my groups then anything else. As she said, edit feature is a pain and the black background as well. A few years ago I was working as a typist on a black background as that computer system was not word and soon before I left I actually experienced that one of my eyes lost eyesight significantly. I arranged an appointment and whilst I was waiting for that appointment to turn up (which was 3 weeks after I left that job) my eye returned back to normal. So it seems working for so many hours per day on such a black screen as it is on fetlife, was not good at all for my eyesight. I was glad that it got back to normal until my appointment took place, as I did not fancy getting stronger glasses. Despite fetlife I am also on alt with a different nikname which I do fairly enjoy at the moment, though there it is so far mainly for dating and not so much for the boards yet [:)]

sweetsub1957 -> RE: fetlife (7/10/2009 1:48:03 PM)

I guess a lot of people don't know how to use the city search function on fetlife.  I just checked it out again.....you go to "Places," click on your State name, then scroll down and there's an alphabetical list of cities in your State.  That's how you search by city.  :)

If they don't care then they don't care, but they might want to know that it's been a huge issue on that site and that CM is largely viewed with contempt for what is perceived as a cowardly act of "no-competition" censorship.

John Baku made an annoucement months ago about Fet and it was never pulled or censored. If CM had a no competition policy, you would think they would pull such threads. I think the temp censorship was a direct result of the spamming into CM members email boxes and not from any inherent ill will to other sites, Fet included.

AlexandraLynch -> RE: fetlife (7/10/2009 1:51:19 PM)

I'm on there, and I like it for different functions than I like things here.

As was said above, it's much more about social networking, but I don't like the groups as much, and so I do most of my BDSM related posting here. I do my general posting on a private blog, and I post political stuff at DKos, and I post my religious stuff at Street Prophets, and occasionally comment here and yon about things that show up in my feed reader. I figure that if both sites are thriving (which they are) they clearly offer different things and people will use them as they want them.

batshalom -> RE: fetlife (7/10/2009 2:17:21 PM)

I'm on both too. Haven't been here in forever since I'm not looking for anyone and this is more (to me) like a hookup site than a social site. I was just curious about it since all the talk over there. I have to know things. Have. To.

Not that I really care about the searching part so much, but I think the issue most people have with FLs searching limitations regarding location is that if you don't live in a big city, you want to be able to search by proximity, not by individually checking each nearby town.

MsFlutter -> RE: fetlife (7/10/2009 2:30:05 PM)

I've tried FL a couple times. Ow ow ow ow - the black background is very hard on the eyes.

Am I the only one unable to define the search any further than Baltimore? Did they hide the feature that confines the search to a particular orientation?

I like the look of FL - the functionality not so much.

LaTigresse -> RE: fetlife (7/10/2009 2:30:33 PM)

Plus the lack of zeroing it down with other parameters. I don't really CARE about all the UberDomDaddys in Iowa, or the het littlegirlforUberDomDaddys. And yeah, the site layout bugs the shit outta me.

DemonKia -> RE: fetlife (7/10/2009 2:39:25 PM)

FR, after read thru

There is a possible fix for the light-text-on-dark-background issue:

'Light Text On Dark Ground - My Only Choice?' in the group 'FetLife Formatting Functions'

It worked for me, I now view the site with a pale yellow background & black text.
