rulemylife -> RE: The Christian right should be so proud...... (7/10/2009 7:12:52 AM)

This was my favorite part:

"Hampton said he, Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla., and others tried to get Ensign to break off the affair, as well as to help the Hamptons pay off their home and relocate to Colorado. They also persuaded Ensign to write a letter to Cindy Hampton apologizing for using her "for my own pleasure," Hampton said."

No wait, I take that back, this is actually better:

Coburn would not comment on the advice he gave Ensign, saying his position as a physician and ordained deacon required that he keep the information private.

"I'm not going to go into that — that's privileged communications," Coburn said. "I'm never going to talk about that with anybody. I never will, not to a court of law, not to an ethics committee, not to anybody — because that is privileged communication that I will never reveal to anybody."

I saw this on the news last night.  Coburn is citing doctor-patient privilege.

Only thing wrong there is Coburn is an OB-GYN.

I have no idea whether the Christian right is proud or not....but I'm pretty sure they have no shame,so in the end its a wash.

thishereboi -> RE: The Christian right should be so proud...... (7/10/2009 2:17:14 PM)

Yes, but as long as the christian left is properly ashamed then all is right with the world. After all they are the good guys right?

As far as Enisgn goes, he is another idiot who couldn't keep his pants up. No surprise really. Nothing to be proud of.

mnottertail -> RE: The Christian right should be so proud...... (7/10/2009 2:21:20 PM)

According to the claims of the christian right, it is impossible to be on the christian left, that is the league of satan, or whateverthefuck.

DemonKia -> RE: The Christian right should be so proud...... (7/10/2009 3:10:33 PM)

LaTigresse -> RE: The Christian right should be so proud...... (7/10/2009 3:11:49 PM)

I don't believe in either or, as defined by most religiouns so I am feeling pretty safe in hanging a tarnished halo on my horns.

Ok, you guys need to educate me.  What is the christian right and the christian left?  mnottertail says the christian left is satanism, itself.  Is that a joke? sarcasm? Remember, I'm ignorant to this so I don't mean to sound condescending, but my inquiring mind would like to know. Please?

The christian right is a socially conservative movement made up primarily of evangelicals. They have long been the GOP's single most reliable voting bloc. They are responsible for virtually all the anti abortion, anti sex ed, anti evolution ed and anti gay political activism inside the US.

The christian left is a movement made up mostly of people in the peace and civil rights movements. While they don't get national coverage as much they are a vital part of most of the social movements I care about.

(They were once...merely a decade ago....the Democrats single most reliable voting bloc(k)).

I take it Cindy received no pleasure?

Which ironic especially since:

Christ was very much a Liberal.

Read your Bible YoungLust.

Christ didn't hate gays.

Modern Christians hate gays.

YoungLust -> RE: The Christian right should be so proud...... (7/10/2009 7:09:01 PM)

Sorry... it's hard to convey tone on the internet.

I'm a liberal deist and was mocking the religious right.

DemonKia -> RE: The Christian right should be so proud...... (7/10/2009 7:10:51 PM)

Tsssk, tsssk, Lookie: the more right-leaning, conservative, fundamentalist, or whatever sub-population of Christianity hates gays, mostly . . . . . Leftist, progressive, liberal, whatever sub-population of Christians like gays, mostly . . . . . All those gay ministers & such being ordained is a handy indicator of how liberal leaning that sect is . . . ..

Meh, I don't know about that. In the 2008 election Florida voted to ban it. Granted it was tossed in to an abortion of a bill called the "Marriage Protection Act" which was an exercise in legislative stupidity and voter ignorance.

Either way, there's no judicious basis for gay marriage to be illegal. Marriage predated any form of monotheism and is a civil, not religious institution. That and the whole first amendment thing.

But yeah... uhh... sorry for contributing to the derailment of this thread.
