I have a low pain tolerance - they all annoy me the same.  I have had a dry needle ran over my throat several months ago.  So, it is not about the pain either....

I am not against facial tattoo.  I just have not seen anything I would like to get.  Generally speaking I find all body modification sexy. If it is the trendy mundane or the extreme.  It demonstrates: confidence, passion, strength and a desire to continue to look better or "Express Yourself".

Hello Esinn...

First off I would like to say that I am enjoying the questions you are throwing out.

I have often thought of getting some ink, but for me it's got to be hidden. Something not everyone gets to view. I feel it's a bit sexier when you get to see what no one else gets to see.

In a perfect world you wouldn't be judged for what you look like--regardless if it was ink or scars or whatever else. The reality of the situation is that people are judged on looks. If you feel that this won't bother you, then go for it.

From your avatar pic, I can tell that you don't mind having your art displayed in places that the world can see. If you have weighed the consequences of this action, and feel that there is more pro than con.... then go for it. Just realize that your view or circumstance may change and a throat/ neck tat may not (at least without some money and trouble).

Good luck!

I think Calla brings up some good points, and some egalitarian reasoning for why the neck is not a super-awesome canvas.

I suppose, Esinn, you must decide on whether you're going to stick it to the man or feel the warmth under his draconian wings. I'm going with the latter. If all my plans go just right, I'll be 'the man'. I'm excited to be a bald, rich, fat cat suit. It's not the goal of everyone, and that's fine. But if you want to go in the same direction as me, your neck tattoo would be a mistake.

Honestly, I get the feeling you're looking for validation of a decision you're 90% devoted to. Like a bi-curious sub male who needs a mistress to order him to felate a fella. This is probably a good time to mention Wrecking Balm.

If that chip on your shoulder hasn't been much a problem I cannot imagine that a throat tattoo would add to your grief. Add to that you already have other neck tattoos and numerous other body tattoos. I don't see how it would make much of a difference.

I want to get my throat tattooed.  I already have all sides of my neck done in a very tasteful manner.  It is a tribute to family. . . .

I want to get my throat done.  Prior to walking out the door an old boss said, "I hope you want to go down in flames"  Oddly I respect this boss still.  He offered me a lot and taught me a lot both personally & professionally.

I am thinking about taking his logo changing it up a little.  It will be 3 - 4 lines with a tribal theme.  The lines are arrows pointing in different directions representing the different path we can go in life.  The center arrow pointing, up the direction we desire.  Possibly an arrow pointing down.  The piece will be outlined in flames - we all walk through fire to be successful.

I do not care so much if you  like the concept, still comment though..  However, I do not believe throat tattoos are too socially acceptable regardless of how artistic and meaningful.  Why is that? Any thoughts?  I am confident my tattoos do not impact my ability to do the job better than you.  I have never had issue with any of my other neck tattoos.

Throat tattoos still fall into the "bad bad bad" stereotype. Eventually, when enough people have them to disprove that theory, they won't be thought of as bad.
And woohoo for the Jerry Springer moments in this thread.

You should see my other threads.

The inside of my lip is tattooed.  I am not sure where else would better hidden?  Inner ass cheek?  Vulva(ouch!) :D

You get an F- for following the thread.  The purpose of this thread was not to justify my actions but hear people's opinion on my thoughts which might but have not lead to action.  The F- is for missing the my earlier stated point my tattoos have nothing to do with my views.  They are my memories.  I guess one can suggest I will not love my daughter, will not miss a friend killed in cold blood, will desire my parents never existed, be free of temptation or never feel pain. . .  Only under that circumstance is it possible I will suffer consequence.  You will also note in other threads I have little room for those who not desire to get to know and understand me because of tattoos.  I am not immune but able to push forward with little effort.  The only day I might suffer s the day the tattoo Goolag(sp) comes into town.  That seems so far a reality I don't consider it.

My tattoos are of my memories.  My  passionate involvement in the game of life.  As you can also see from the picture my throat is not tattooed, this has little to do with the thread.  I do not honestly know how much consideration I will give it if the time ever comes.

It never hurts to ask though

As said before I am a collector of history, memories and human desire.  I do not think it is more different than the bitch who collects ugly $1,000 china dolls.  Except I am no bitch and I'd hope many if all of my tattoos are relevant to other while being viewed as more than a niche hobby.

Again I am not some tattooed sleeved out biker stero-type.  Nor are all my tattoos museum quality.  With the last comment in mind most are not but I have the hope most will be.

Esinn...

as much as I love ink, I have to agree that putting one on your throat (at this point in time) is probably a reallllllllllly bad idea, professionally speaking.  As Aileen (and others) have said, it's still too connected to negative perceptions.  In a few years, maybe, it might be less of a stigma, but for the majority of people NOW.. serious negative connotations.

Can you do it somewhere less visible? or hold off a bit and see if common perceptions change in a few years?

What are you talking about?  A chip?  LoL?  This 'chip' has something to do with tattoos?  WOOOHA!

He has intentionally attempted to be abrasive to me adding nothing to value in multiple threads I have posted.  His posts were only intended to be personal insults not relevant to the OP.  Although childish on 1-2 occasions I felt it necessary to address  them.  If you are so inclined search.  This is a violation of  TOS.  However, rather than cry about it I ignored it.  I thought I addressed the problem in a mature manner.  He is allowed to his opinion, I just do not see it. I will not discuss this in public any longer.

You may ignore me - feel free.

*I assume 'he' based on previous interaction but do not know.

Why would it become less of a stigma?  Because more are willing to do it?

What other than that could bring such a sweeping change?  Really?

I'm not sure.   But (as much as I like ink, and have quite a few pieces of my own), when I see someone with their throat/neck tattooed my first thought is either they've done prison time, are associated with a gang, or simply are trashy drug addicted trailer trash.

This perception is not mine alone.  And I *am* inked.

If I was seeking validation I would go to BME, tattoofuroum.net or http://tribes.tribe.net/voxtat.  If I was seeking validation from the BDSM community BME is held in high regard within or Fetlife.com has a body mod page.

It is ok Captain, you can suck my cock without your mistress present.  I know it is only gay for the man on his knees.

There are males and females here with facial tattoos.  Search the word, "tattoo".  Hell there are chicks with dicks.

Some of my threads hit 7,000 views and 300 responses.  I am a social person who sees and understands opportunity can present itself from networking.  Even in the face of

Esinn.. it seems to me that the majority of those in the US that have face/neck throat tats on BME are folks who are engaged in body mod businesses.  I could be wrong (It's been ages since I checked the site).   But your average CEO/HR geek/etc is going to be put off by facial/neck/throat ink.  They're going to want people they can parade out to clients without the clients getting freaked out.

actually although claiming to "ignore" -  just like chicks on a True Blood or Anne Rice message board -you aren't ignoring, you're whinging while claiming to ignore (wonder what the guys from BioHazard would think about THAT), and there was nothing childish in someone asking you WHAT BIBLE YOU MEANT when you came on board and began a  Bible slamming thread that had been done 8 million times before your iPod generation arse.

And you either didn't have the religious background to answer (meaning you never had the right to ASK the question in the first place, iPod boy) or you were just another lazy-ass "I love posting what other people have done a gazillion times before me" piece of wannabe "Hard" but really "in the art school paid by the divorce settlement Mommy got" gangstah.

show a tatt you MIGHT like to have on your THROAT.

Until you show you actually THOUGHT ABOUT it?

You're just stirring the shit pot like all the other Marin wannabes.

Thread is about TATTS.

post a TATT you want on yer throat, "Beastie".

I disagree most of my friends with facial tattoos are unemployed.

Whoa!  Just kidding.  The majority of the serious body mod'rs or those with facial tattoos I know or BS with at convension are not in the business.  However, it could be very likely we know different people.

I pointed to BME and the other sites because the captains(Heavens) claim was I wanted only validation, not discussion.  My expectation was I would not get such validation here.  I did think I would get a little more support of find another with facial tats.  But  if I really wanted this comfort from validation I would have went to those sites - that is why they were mentioned..  See his post #43 for a better explaination.

Thanks Greedy........

The circle of my friends don't have facial tats (even if tattooed over the rest of their bodies).. I was referring to the people specifically on BME.
Seriously, Esinn.. I would rethink a neck tat..

FR.....

......seems to me the only good reason to think twice about such a tattoo is the physical possibility that it might turn out crap.  Personally i have just the one piece of ink. Bought it with the money i earned from the first time i sold a show that was all my own work and where i wasn't employed by someone else. i totally get the memory idea.  However, i wouldn't want a tattoo to look awful in such a prominant place......and the physicality of the throat makes this a serious possibility.

As to societal acceptance........well, someone has to be the pathfinder....

Unfortunately, Wrecking Balm is crap. It doesn't work any better than using Esoterica or Palmer's Age Spot Serum or hydrogen peroxide/lemon juice and sunlight. Yes, the tat will fade, but it is time consuming and depending on how deeply the ink was put in, it won't remove even -most- of the tat.

The only sure way of removing a tat is by laser removal (where the ink is selectively destroyed by lasers set to that particular color spectrum), which is painful (about twice as painful as the original tat), expensive (a 3x3 tat costs around $1400 to remove), and time-consuming (it may take up to 7 30-minute visits to remove a 3x3, 4-color tat). Honestly, I wouldn't put one on if I had any illusions about possibly wanting to take it off.

On the other hand, Wrecking Balm, used daily for about 3 months, can fade a tattoo enough that a cover tat can be done with great success.
