Have you ever felt so empty even when surrounded by people? I am not thinking about an identity crisis more a struggle? In relation to what makes you 'you' when considering the context of the forum you are a minority. Many respected and educated main stream psychologists can & do make a case we need their help for our benefit.
A few told me I was a dreamer most tell me I am stupid – Esinn put your feelings in check. I've always had such a passion for this; there is now way I am not going to do this. Sometimes I feel like I've done it all by myself but I know I need everybody else.
So, is this just me? Sometimes alone when surrounded by people? What have you done?
** Bonus points if you can tell me what track I am listening to now.

You are not really alone you know. In any given day, you will find  some of those surrounding you have the same feelings you just expressed. To think about that, no man is an island, yet many of times standing in a group is when we feel more like an island  more then ever. I am different then some and some are different then me, i just reached the point in my life were difference is celebrated. Look at me on a site were people are trying to find someone to hook up with, and i am not. I am not even in a relationship, but in my mind i feel i belong here. So as long as my mind tells me to stay I will.  Is this sane or not? I don't know nor do i care. I just inventing myself.

People are strange
When you're a stranger.
Women seem wicked
When you're alone.

Don't forget that they make their living from "helping" people.

Dizzee Rascal - Bonkers Lyrics I wake up everyday it’s a daydream
Everythin’ in my life isn’t what it seems
I wake up just to go back to sleep
I act real shallow but I’m in to deep
And all I care about is sex and violence
And a heavy bass line is my kind of silence
Everybody says I got to get a grip
But I let sanity give me the slip Some people think I’m bonkers
But I just think I’m free
Man I’m just living my life
There nothing crazy about me
Some people pay for thrills
but I get mine for free
Man I’m just living my life
There nothing crazy about me...........????????????
I'm a therapist by the way and way too good to be rich....

yeah, and for a few months of sessions at 200$'s an hour, they can help you.

don't buy into their buillshit. this isn't a bdsm problem. it isn't a problem of being a minority (whatever that means). this is a problem that all humans have to deal with.

would you do me a favor and link me the cases they make that state 'we' (not sure who this 'we' is) would benefit from their help.

The lunatic is on the grass
The lunatic is on the grass
Remembering games
And daisy chains and laughs
Got to keep the loonies on the path
The lunatic is in the hall
The lunatics are in the hall
The paper holds their folded faces to the floor
And every day the paper boy brings more

And if the dam breaks up in many years too soon
And if there is no room upon the hill
And if your head explodes with dark forebodings too
I'll see you on the dark side of the Moon.

Ya know, I'm a mental health professional and a damn good one at that and the vagaries that you note about pych folks pathologizing you just makes thee think you didn't like what they said/weren't ready to hear it...either that, or they really were sucky and, as with all professions, some are better than others.
Anyway, everyone goes through dark nights of the soul.

Some of it is just the happy variation of humanity, some of it is manageable with lifestyle and cognitive and/or behavioral changes (the other CBT) , and some of it just needs medication.

I am deeply interested in how modern phycology views the mind of the Top/'Middle'(Switch) or Bottom. I am not formally schooled but passionately interested. Modern psychology goes wrong with the general thought erotogenic masochism is a sign of illness. Much of what once socially marginalized us has or is changing. Buddha, Jesus, YHVH and many others recognized and embraced such teachings many mock.

I am not much for cut and pastes. But, this is a cut and paste without edit from an email I sent about an hour ago(Typo and all).

Oh, someone mentioned the joys of CBT.  How a cognitive therapist might desire to change the thoughts of someone suffering from erotogenic sadism or masochism.  Freud had much to say about this in 1924.

I have been told by several medical professionals that I probably need to be medicated, but for other peoples' sake, not my own.

One even confided to me, after quite a bit of back-and-forth, that they'd far rather medicate me than admit that they couldn't help me, or concede that my worldview had merit. They used the phrase "too smart for your own good".

I'm not sure whether to submit for the sake of the 'greater good's social comfort, or continue to demand my sovereignty.
