Oh, I don't know. Many homes here in Minnesota have had indoor plumbing for 2 or 3 years now, and last time I went down to the general store to get a roll of barbed wire and a new axe handle, they was some men sayin' they gonna pave the main street next year. Actually, for over 50 years, WCCO has been one of the top 4 or 5 TV stations in the country. They've probably graduated more on-air personalities to the national networks than almost any other station in America, and it's not likely Cronkite would have stayed long before getting back on the fast lane. A talent like him would have risen to the top no matter where he was. But it would have been a very different arc, nonetheless. He'd have still been a national figure in the news business no matter what, but he may not have been the alpha anchor. Or if he had been, it probably would have come some years later, and he would probably not be remembered as the man who informed us about every major event of the 60s. It could have been a very different career.
