Surely some on-line persona could suggest you buy a book about knots and a good few metres of rope and with the help of a camcorder could instruct you how to tie up a blowup doll or your own boobies or legs... you could still make a very real rope burn on your own ankles... on-line is most definitely not only in the mind...
On-line has its limitations physically but it is less limiting than some people seem to think.

I wonder if a rope burn caused by a suggestion from an online Dom feels different to a rope burn caused by a hands on real time Dom...

Re: online training..

see my post this AM in All Forums >> [Community Discussions] >> General BDSM Discussion >> Fake "Dominants"

A prime example of why internet is good and bad... Bad for giving asshats like this access to the community, good for being able to investigate, parse and shut it down all in 10 minutes I already know who I'm dealing with.

Actually Tazzy, I am one that can say I have not been burned in real life. I meet people, I get to know people. If something developes it is because we share mutual interests beyond staring at a computer screen.

To clarify, any relationship I've had that has ended, did not end because someone lied, misled, didn't show up, did show up and ended up being the wrong gender or 20 years older than they were when they first said hello. I don't just, say hello and begin a relationship. I get to know them, meet their friends, family, see how they interact with other people in their lives. I usually know where they work, know co-workers, etc. When you take the time to get to know a person, there is less room for creative elaboration. I can usually tell you within moments of meeting someone if I want to know them better simply by watching them and how they interact with other people. There is not that luxury online.

So no, any relationship I've had that has ended was not because I was burned.

I said no such thing. I'm in a 24/7 relationship that began online....

"By your own admission, online relationships are a step below "learning to mesh" with society."

Umm no. This assumes the condition ALL such relationships qualify. I was merely stating  SOME are dysfunctional. The same applies to real life as well, and not all who are sequestered from realtime are that way by their own dysfunction but rather hadling exchanges online as a filter.

Cherry picking one small part of what I said doesn't mean it was my intent.

Non, I think it is more a case of choosing wisely, and even when things do go south, looking at them objectively. Also, I never forget, regardless of what happens, I share equal if not more, responsibility for it. Then there is the, "soooooo LeeAnn, what have you learned from this little debacle?!?"

Usually it wasn't the other person that let us down but our expectations of them.

For the most part, i agree. Then again, some of us have not been that lucky. I can stand back and view a relationship and understand my own mistakes and take the blame for my own faults. Yet people are duped everyday.

Somehow, I don't see MsLaT getting "duped"...much less "easily". Maybe I'm naive.

Yea, I would have to agree with ya. She doesn't strike me as the dupable kind either.
