Not meaning to add any fuel to the Dems vs Reps argument, but the black market kidney thing is a pretty sweet twist on the corruption angle.  The Jersey Boys are definitely upping the ante!  I still think (allegedly) trying to sell a senate seat to the highest bidder trumps that  :D

Its not inside knowledge, its public knowledge, although it might not get the notice outside of the state. and yes I lived there for 45 years in total.

Except as others have pointed out, you are apparently trying to label the Democrat party corrupt as a whole, while ignoring similar Republican corruption.

I live primarily in Florida and we have had an ongoing case here for several years, involving exclusively Republicans, if you care to read about it.

And I doubt this got any notice outside the state either, until recently.

It may be "apparent" to those who try to read between the lines and add their own biases. I say exactly what I mean to say, and if I thought that there isnt also corruption by Republicans, even in, much less outside of NJ I would have said it. I didn't. It isnt there. You can strawman it to death if you want BUT I DIDNT SAY IT.

rulemylife -> RE: Business as usual in the corrupt Dem machine (7/23/2009 5:33:06 PM)

Well Willbeur, you did say this:

The vast majority of public officials who don't buy their office by funding their own campaigns (Corzine, Lautenberg) move up the ranks from local Democratic politics that is corrupt as the Hudson County sky is gray.

And considering the title of your thread, and your posting history, I wasn't the only one that thought it apparent.

I see, so you take your own misconception of bias on my part and totally ignore the plain words "vast majority".

The only thing "apparent" is your penchant for misrepresenting what somewhat has said in order to attack a position they never had. I take it you went to the DomKen school of debate.

rulemylife -> RE: Business as usual in the corrupt Dem machine (7/23/2009 6:12:05 PM)

Actually, that was another point I found interesting.

If someone is wealthy enough to finance their own campaign I would consider that more a case of buying their office than someone who had to seek contributions from the public for support.

"All but one of the officeholders are Democrats."

Now, that being said ...

I'm glad to see all the "progressives" here on CM pointing out that it's an individual weaknesses and issue, not a Democratic Party issue or weakness.

And I expect to see the same defense the next time Marsbonfire or some other Republican bashing posters starts posting about "all those damn corrupt Republicans".

Because, if you don't, I'll being calling you a hypocrite.

In that case Firm, where is your denunciation of Willbeur's obvious partisan slant on this thread(not to mention his long history of such behavior)?

servantforuse -> RE: Business as usual in the corrupt Dem machine (7/23/2009 6:50:24 PM)

In the State of Illinois, I will also take Domkens bet...I'll even give points..

DomKen -> RE: Business as usual in the corrupt Dem machine (7/23/2009 8:34:30 PM)

Once more no limits on state. The only limit is the one I imposed on myself, I will not name the whole string of people pardoned for their part in Iran/Contra.

You havent beaten me at anything yet, youve been proven wrong in every discussion we've had. Chosing not to play by shifting the field is definitely a good face saving tactic. At least you're learning.

Your declaring victory or simply abandoning the field is not beating me at anything. So far in your short time here you have yet to post anything even remotely close to accurate on any thing.

You even once claimed to make an absurd amount of money on economic's consulting while pushing supply side theory. I was kind enough to just point out your blatant lie and not make fun of you for thinking anyone else would actually believe the drivel. I see now you weren't worth even that bit of kindness.

MarsBonfire -> RE: Business as usual in the corrupt Dem machine (7/23/2009 8:50:50 PM)

Gee, Firm, thanks for the confirmation that I'm being a pain in your... conservative, wire tapping, torture-loving, let's lie our way into two wars, and dumb down American science classrooms with creationism, while cutting taxes only for the rich... butt.

What partisan slant? [8D][:)]

How "long" is willbur's history, exactly?

I dunno DK.

Sometimes the sheer wrong-headed obstinacy of some posters leave no other option than to leave the field, since reaching across the table to choke some sense into them isn't an option .... [:D]

Really not a pain at all Mars.

You are actually a great negative example to hold up to show the depths of some on your "side" of the political equation. That is what I used you for, yanno.

Thank you. [:)]

Except there is a difference.

The GOP proclaims itself to be the party of morals, ethics, and family values.

If they present themselves as paragons of virtue then they are going to be held to a higher standard when they fail to live up to that.

So, Democrats can lie, cheat and steal, because they don't claim to have any morals ... and that's ok with you?
