~FR~ The biggest glaring issue I am now seeing is over the fact that I see two grown men with a stubborn streak the size of the Pacific ocean refusing to find a compromise and instead are willing to duel because if this. Granted if this event does take place and the monetary proceeds are donated to charity still doesn't erase that fact that it is bloody idiotic egos on both parties getting in the way. The irony in this situation is, it is a guaranteed fact that if it was any other people other than Michael and Leonidas having a debate in this same fashion, we would be told point blank to stop acting like kids and grow up. It is funny that in my own circle of kinkster friends and most are male, I have never seen this type of behavior being played out in such a fashion. I suppose that maybe I am foolish enough to believe that differences can either be settled or simply left alone, I like to see the positive traits in people; maybe that is a sign I am too naive? I have experienced too much of human nature to blindly expect everyone to get along with everyone, at least we can try to have a somewhat peaceful co-existence. In the meantime I just shake my head in sad disappointment in human nature in general and try to be the best person I can and the hell with the rest.

Bear, One thing I think it will solve is that we will each gain respect for each other. We both clearly think the other is an internet blow hard who's words are empty and in large part that is what that thread was about. Besides, I don't know what all the hand wringing is about. Leonidas clearly believes that men should be men, that honor must be defended and that he will defeat me effortlessly. Read his posts in the Gor forum and his words to me in the thread to see how he thinks about all this. The fact is, it WILL generate a lot of money for charity because most of the BDSM world thinks that Gor is made up of internet blow hards who talk about honor and being warriors but are in fact just keyboard cowboys and Goreans think they have a lock on honor and integrity and we are all weaklings led around by our women. SO, who knows, perhaps if the two of us do this and shake hands afterwards the stereotypes of BOTH sides will set aside and we can all have a bit more respect for each other.

But based on what I've seen (after re-reading stuff and discovering that it's SERIOUS), and ego driven battle seems to be nothing more than an ego sop. The charity, from what I've seen, seems to be a by-product.

I think Micheal you are putting way too much stock into what is, as the thread suggests, a pissing contest. No it wont break the stereotypes, it isnt D/s verses Gor, to be honest I do not even know if Leonidas is actually taking this seriously, I hope not but if so it is a fight between boys, because men would simply say this is a message board. We are people who don't agree about how the other defines their own relationship and therefore is completely irrelevant to me. Sure a bit of cock fighting is natural on any forum, probably moreso on a BDSM one due to the nature of dominance. However I can't see how having a fight will do anything to prove anyone is more right, and if you gain respect from each other you will loose it from hundreds of others. Why is it so important? How will it generate any money? In reality who would actually want to see two grown men reduced to hormone driven teenagers? Defending honour does not mean fighting with violence, and the fact that people claim your words are empty won't be resolved by using your fists. You will never get to see each others worlds, and to be honest why the fuck does it matter?
