JanMikal -> Master 'Styles' (7/27/2009 11:30:18 PM)

I've been a Dominant for a long time....well, perhaps I should say I have been dominant, in a less formal sense than is usually meant when one says 'A Dominant'. Personality, etc. But I must admit, I feel a little out of place. Or perhaps out of time.

I've looked around, and I've noticed that a lot of Dom/mes seem to dress, act and play to fit the general perception of the lifestyle by outsiders. I see a lot of Dom/mes dressing in leather, corsets, complex bondage apparel that really seems like more trouble than it's worth. Apparently, I am a more 'old-fashioned' type of Dom; I believe that the ultimate expression of a powerful man is a tailored suit and tie, perhaps a hat and/or walking-stick. Likewise, with a Domme, I see the ultimate expression being one of a classy cocktail dress or gown, with immaculately styled hair and appropriate makeup.

My question is this; is there really a place for someone like me in this culture? Or am I hopelessly dated and outmoded? I have to note that my style is more that of a 'daddy dom', and less of the harsher, more intense variety, which perhaps might inform my style a bit.

What do you all think?

you dont fit the with the leather/corset styles but its a big umbrella of different lifestyles and fashions.. wear what you want, leather, diaper, suit, nudist, street casual, so on

yes people will judge you for how you dress. conform to the standard fashion or do your own thing, you might not get invited to all the cool kids parties tho..

peppermint -> RE: Master 'Styles' (7/28/2009 1:11:18 AM)

My Dom is remembered for the top hat he wears at munches and events.  He's also the only man I have ever dated who owns his own tux.

LillyoftheVally -> RE: Master 'Styles' (7/28/2009 3:24:18 AM)

Believe what you like, be what you like, who cares. Some people like leather, some don't.

Focus50 -> RE: Master 'Styles' (7/28/2009 4:00:50 AM)

My preferred dress "style" is shorts and a T shirt. I get tarted up a bit more for munches - usually jeans and a T shirt.... I'm just not a formal person and I'm utterly comfortable with who I am. I'm like Thomas Magnum without the mansion, Ferrari, charisma and chick magnetism. (dammit)

Focus.

Level -> RE: Master 'Styles' (7/28/2009 4:10:33 AM)

lol Focus.

OP, you MUST wear leather trousers, or no one will consider you to be twue. And I really enjoyed Air Wolf.

Or, more seriously, wear what you want. That does not matter, it's who you are and what you do that matters.

Lashra -> RE: Master 'Styles' (7/28/2009 4:17:10 AM)

Sure there is room for you, just like there is room for Dommes like me who wear jeans and work boots almost everyday. Everyone does their own thing and they are happy, if you try to fit into someone else's idea of what is "correct" and you may not be so happy.

GaPhoto -> RE: Master 'Styles' (7/28/2009 11:32:12 AM)

Dress how you want to, leather is not required.  However, if I may, I've found that neat, clean dress usually works best for everyone.

I've also found that having something unique that is a part of your style folks will remember.  If I'm not wearing my cowboy hat, I get numerous inquiries into its whereabouts, I think they just use me for my hat.

You can be whatever you want to be. It works wonders for self confidence if you dress in a way that appeals to you no matter what that may be. I remembered a thread on dress styles for a Dom/Master at 'work' and looked up the link,
http://www.collarchat.com/m_2426210/mpage_1/tm.htm

Many of the subs in the thread seemed to prefer the clothng you mentioned- a tailored suit or business type attire in general.

Wow, thanks for posting that Peppermint. I thought my response hadn't gone through but it did....on his other thread. Oh well, how foolish of me to post the same thing on 2 threads and not know it... [:-]

Kana -> RE: Master 'Styles' (7/30/2009 9:23:19 AM)

Damn it all, Of course there is a place for you.
I have scened in everything from armani suits to t-shirts that say "Making love is what my girlfriend does when I fuck her."
While I do own about a million leather jackets, I've never owned leather pants and the only chaps I own are fore riding motorcycles

There are lots of people into the more sophisticated look

Now next time, I may just head down to urban trash and pick up some wild 70's and 80's type stuff and show up looking like Steven Tyler circa 1972
Shit, it's called play for a reason
lets have some fun with it

GreedyTop -> RE: Master 'Styles' (7/30/2009 1:14:52 PM)

Hmm...  I like that visual, Kana :)

KnightofMists -> RE: Master 'Styles' (7/30/2009 6:25:32 PM)

what you wear is irrelevant... what others wear is irrelevant. What is occuring in one's relationship is going to be relevant. So.. you could be dressed in leathers to nines and have a dysfunctional relationship and you will be far less of than someone who is dressed in a tutu who has a the most beautiful of relationships going on.
