I was actually contemplating doing the 70's glam trash thing the night I met you, Greedy

Yep; ain't got that, either....

Sooooo...., tell me (from your chick perspective).... The Magnum 'tache; this could be the magic elixir of charisma and chick magnetism for moi? [8|] And while we're at it (building toward mansions and exotic sports cars), should I also consider a 'power' name like his, too? lol

Focus.

Focus, I agree- you already have enough to give me the shivers without a mustache. Who needs a mustache? And the power name? You got it......

I've been a Dominant for a long time....well, perhaps I should say I have been dominant, in a less formal sense than is usually meant when one says 'A Dominant'. Personality, etc. But I must admit, I feel a little out of place. Or perhaps out of time.

I've looked around, and I've noticed that a lot of Dom/mes seem to dress, act and play to fit the general perception of the lifestyle by outsiders. I see a lot of Dom/mes dressing in leather, corsets, complex bondage apparel that really seems like more trouble than it's worth. Apparently, I am a more 'old-fashioned' type of Dom; I believe that the ultimate expression of a powerful man is a tailored suit and tie, perhaps a hat and/or walking-stick. Likewise, with a Domme, I see the ultimate expression being one of a classy cocktail dress or gown, with immaculately styled hair and appropriate makeup.

My question is this; is there really a place for someone like me in this culture? Or am I hopelessly dated and outmoded? I have to note that my style is more that of a 'daddy dom', and less of the harsher, more intense variety, which perhaps might inform my style a bit.

What do you all think?

JM,

Clothing and trinkets do not a dominant make!

We don't have a dress code and even if we did, that has no bearing on your value as a Dom

wvjeeper -> RE: Master 'Styles' (8/16/2009 3:58:07 AM)

what does dress have to do with the dom sub dynamic? nothing, why would you want to even be around any other dominants or subs who would judge you based off dress? any one who would judge you cause you dont fit the stereotypical image is an asshole

OrionTheWolf -> RE: Master 'Styles' (8/16/2009 8:26:35 AM)

Of course there is. When I was going to BDSM events I wore one of two outfits. If I was driving my car it was a nice dark suit, silk tie, and sometimes I had a silver headed walking stick. I was always well received, and I enjoyed not dressing as the majority did. My other outfit was when I was riding my bike, which comprised of leather pants, black tee, leather biker jacket and my hand tailored cowboy boots. I accented with silver chains in various places. That outfit seemed to fit in more, but since I blended in more I did not draw as much eye attention. In either outfit I have never been turned away from a BDSM or fetish type club.

Dress as an expression of yourself.

FR

My question to the OP is, "Why follow what others wear? Be a trend setted and dress to suit your personality and unique lifestyle if you have one."

DesFIP -> RE: Master 'Styles' (8/16/2009 10:29:01 AM)

If you are going to a public venue and they have a dress code, then follow it. If the code says no one admitted without fetish wear, email them to see if this is acceptable.

But in private? Wear whatever turns the two of you on.

I don't believe it matters what you wear.. But how your demeanor is towards the sub/slave you are in a relationship with..

On that note, Sir usually wears jeans and a t-shirt of some kind.  His demeanor is quiet and friendly to others, and to me He is loving yet firm.  He never raises His voice, but I know by His tone if He is "meaning business."  He is just totally wonderful and fantastic and I suppose it's obvious I love Him totally.

Aanakaris -> RE: Master 'Styles' (8/16/2009 9:15:51 PM)

Leather is a requirement for being a Dom. Not just leather clothing, but you must have leather furniture, a leather house, leather car, leather friends, in fact if a herd of cows didn't die to make you look good then all is lost.

Truthfully though, yes some people dress according to the stereotype of Dom just as some do to the stereotype of slave. That's why there is a stereotype. If that suits you then wear it. If it doesn't then don't. I have spent very little time in the public scene and only twice have been to play parties. At one the person who got the most attention came dressed in a tie and boots, that's it. I once came dressed as an 1890's gentleman complete with top hat, but then it was Halloween.

Just be yourself. Those who mind do not matter, those who matter will not mind.
