i think this is appropriate for the off-topic section

anyone here into gaming? i happen to enjoy survival horror games and rpg's. how about you?

Arpig -> RE: Gaming (7/29/2009 4:06:41 AM)

D&D from a way back (late 70s way back).

VanityFix -> RE: Gaming (7/29/2009 4:06:57 AM)

ya all sorts of games, for video games i mostly go for rts and platformers, currently playing "an untitled story" a very addictive platformer.

fadedshadow -> RE: Gaming (7/29/2009 4:09:28 AM)

thank you arpig and vanityfix

slaveboyforyou -> RE: Gaming (7/29/2009 4:10:32 AM)

When someone says, "gaming" I think of slot machines, blackjack, and the like. Not a big fan of those, but I do love to bet on the horses.

I'm not a big video game player or a into rpgs. I hated D&D when I was a kid; my friends played it. It bored the hell out of me. I wanted to be out causing real mischief instead of pretending to be.

fadedshadow -> RE: Gaming (7/29/2009 4:13:03 AM)

never played d&d, i like video gaming more than anything and i don't care for betting...because i suck at it

Arpig -> RE: Gaming (7/29/2009 4:25:23 AM)

Video gaming never really appealed to me, not even the D&D style ones. They lack the human interaction that makes up a large part of the appeal of D&D.

I also played any number of board games, strategy/war games. One of my favourites was Empires in Arms, which is a month by month recreation of the Napoleonic wars. Me and a bunch of friends would get together every Sunday and play it, it lasted for months. That was fun!!

fadedshadow -> RE: Gaming (7/29/2009 4:28:43 AM)

i like playing risk and monopoly

Arpig -> RE: Gaming (7/29/2009 4:32:25 AM)

I enjoy those as well, well Risk at least. Monopoly I cheat at, I will warn anybody who wants to play with me that I cheat at it. You see I have been playing Monopoly for over 40 years and have won maybe once or twice, so I cheat, that's the fun of the game for me.

fadedshadow -> RE: Gaming (7/29/2009 4:35:11 AM)

how do you cheat with monopoly? *grabs notepad and pen*

Arpig -> RE: Gaming (7/29/2009 4:40:58 AM)

Oh geez...fudge die rolls, steal money from the bank or other players, snitch properties from the bank or other people, unmortgage things without actually paying to do it, flip other peoples properties to the mortgaged side, add houses to your properties, remove them from other people's properties, short change people (helps if you pay in a large number of small bills), change a big stack of small bills for a few large ones and don't actually  give in the full amount, miscount your move to avoid hitting a property or to ensure an opponent does hit a property (either one of yours or Boardwalk with a hotel to take down a game leader). There are any number of ways, you really are limited only by your creativity and your skill.

fadedshadow -> RE: Gaming (7/29/2009 4:42:55 AM)

i'll keep those in mind. it's a shame my friends are a stickler for the rules though. like one time at mcdonalds, we were playing monopoly and we had the manager get involved in our discussion of rules =P

Massive gamer here, started out playing D&D 27 years ago, watched it go from Basic, to 1st edition and all the way up to the current 4th edition rules. Along the way, picked up some other RPG games like Champions, play a number of games on the PC, PS1, PS2 and Lumus and I are planning on getting a PS3 for Christmas since there's a new Final Fantasy game coming out for it. I've played on Commodores, Sega's, Sega Genesis, Gameboys, PSP, all sorts of platforms.  Mech Warrior for the PC was a great one but killer on graphics and sound cards, had to have literally the best and newest to run that damn game.

I'm also something of a gambler, grew up in casinos and learning to play poker since I was a kid. The "guys" enjoy having me in on a game because I usually win, quite nicely. It's something of a laugh to see their faces when they realize they're getting beaten by a "woman".

Current games playing include Civ III and IV, Final Fantasy Tactics, exploring the Sims since I avoided them like the plague before, a number of games on Facebook including Tiny Adventures, a game from Wizards of the Coast based on D&D.

Gaming. It's what we do here.  [:D]

fadedshadow -> RE: Gaming (7/29/2009 5:03:45 AM)

that is awesome, do you play any resident evil or silent hill?

Rainfire -> RE: Gaming (7/29/2009 5:09:48 AM)

[:D]  Let's put it this way, I don't even have to move from where I'm sitting to grab either one..... Master Lumus is also a huge gamer, it's one of the things we discovered in common. Often, we'll have "game nights" where one of us plays on the PS2 and the other is on the computer. He's playing Neverwinter Nights. Did you ever play any of the DOS games, like Master of Magic? We use emulators here to play some of the old classic games.  [:)]  Have you tried Primal? I love that game, an excellent one. I just can't play it as much as I'd like to because of an ear problem I have, the motions make me sick.  [:(]

fadedshadow -> RE: Gaming (7/29/2009 5:14:03 AM)
