slightly better photoshopping than the ones mentioned here before

Actually, there's no photoshopping of that one at all. It's a drawing.

Hmm... I see this as a perfect example of free speech. If we want to make fun of the president while he works to preserve our ability to do so then so be it.

A fairly pathetic attempt to apply the stylized appearance of someone in blackface to Obama. Compare the image to that of performers in minstrel shows and you will see what the real intent was.

So you consider it racist, DK?

Firm

If it looks like a duck...

What then, did you call it when the left did the exact same thing to Bush?

You did see kittn's post, and link, didn't you? The one where Vanity Fair did the same thing to him?

That was acceptable political commentary, I bet, wasn't it?

You belief seems to be a perfect example of the left's "criticism of Obama is racism" meme.

Firm

Where did I ever say anything of the sort? Go back through my posting history. You won't ever find me making any such comparisons or approving of such.

Retract your claim.

hmmm ....

Was it racist for Vanity Fair to do "The Joker" of Bush?

Was it racist for the anonymous artist to do "The Joker" of Obama?

If your answers are different, then why the difference?

Pretty tasteless...immature....racist...not really, although the one with Obama as a witch Dr. I think is by all means racist and more hateful....

the.dark.

The artist is currently unknown, as is the distribution system.

I suspect soon enough that the left will call it an "astro-turf" job. Which is kinda funny, since that term was coined to describe a technique that one of Obama's advisors originated.

Not to be a pedant, but unknown is different to anonymous.
However, 'Jake Turcotte' hasn't owned up although he signed it?*confused*

I haven't seen anything that said the artist was known.

Do you have a link?

Anonymous (from an artists POV) means that you do not know who penned the image/book/writing/painting.
Unknown in comparrison, indicates an artist whom has no real recognition.

The original image you cited is signed by Jake Turcotte.  That makes him 'unknown' as such, but not anonymous.
There are images by Jake Turcotte all over the net but his works are on Christian Scientist Monitor?

ahhh, I see the confusion.

I don't think the very first link is the actual poster. I posted a link to that later, near the bottom of the first page.

I thought the initial graphic was the poster, but after reading, decided it was not.

At least ... that is the best of my knowledge so far.

And the backpedaling begins.

First I can see no way of identifying the drawing of the Joker Vanity Fair published is supposed to be GWB. It certainly bears no actual resemblance to GWB. Fundamentally it isn't a good caricature because it isn't identifiable.

The Obama version is quite easily recognizable, it is a photo manipulation, and is done in a style that is a strongly suggestive of minstrel show blackface.

But that's beside the point you accused me of something I have never done. You're the one that keeps claiming to be offended but here you are making untrue, and easily verifiably untrue, statements about me. I gave you a fair chance to retract the lie. Why do you feel that it is ok to tell lies about people simply because they do not agree with you? In light of this why should anyone deal with you at all?

What I am saying is that Jake Turcotte is the artist responsible for the image.  He pretty much signs his stuff.
Who made the actual poster (with the whole lettering added) could be someone different - if it is then Turcotte has some legal work to pursue.  Honestly, I don;t see the words making much difference really from a personal POV.  However the image itself belongs to Turcotte.  So that said, it's penned by a satirist of the CSM.  Relatively unknown, but not anonymous.

Nice of you to announce what you are doing in advance. Most posters aren't so considerate.

kittn didn't seem to have much problem identifying who it was, either.

It is a good one. Obama no Joker about socialism is the understanding.
Right away the left screams RACIST, which is total BS, it is a model of the JOKER from that Batman movie.

Tom Tancredo said it best the other day:
quote:

The Democrats support of Sotomayor and La Raza shows us what Obama’s "post racial" America really looks like. Designated minority victim groups are free to promote their anti-white racist agenda, while any whites who fight back are playing "racial politics."

I don't think they are the same photo.

I believe that CSM had a "look a like" commissioned, to avoid the same copyright issues that occurred with the original "Obama Hope" work.

Another comparison - other than Batman's Joker, and "A Clockwork Orange" - occurred to me as well: the clowns on "The Prisoner".

I couldn't find a picture of one, but I did find one of Sir Ian McKellen as "Number Two".

And an Obama graphic which mimics it here.

So you claim it looks like GWB? How should anyone know what you think? You're a liar.

What double standard? Did I ever approve of any caricuture of GWB? Despite your lie I never did.

What you tried here, aside from your lying about me, was a useless and quite transparent attempt to create a false equivalence. The two images are only superficially similiar and only one plays upon well known racist imagery.

Why are you so approving of attempting to equate Obama with a minstrel show performer?

It's deja vu all over again.  You two need to chill out.  Any time you butt heads it devolves into personal attacks.  Next one who steps over the line gets an extended vacation.

It's very nice of you, Ken, to try and go to bat for some idiot blogger who came up with this "reversed blackface" nonsense in the kneejerk 'to oppose President Obama is to automatically be labeled a racist' fashion I'm sure we'll see a lot more of over the next three years and three months.  Please explain how the green hair, and facial scars fit into that theory, or acknowledge it was a bullshit call from a bullshit source not familiar with what is actually being satired.
