Due to limited personal time I rarely venture away from the boards, either casual reading them when I have a few moments to spare or replying to comments in a thread that I started.

On rare occasion I have ventured into the many chat rooms to see if there are any regular posters there. It only takes a couple of visits to recognize that over in the chat rooms they are a group with an entirely different mind set. Note that is not to be critical at all, but I do wonder why there is no apparent cross population of the two groups.

Any thoughts?

I am far too busy to play in the chat pools, the few times I was there, My good time with some regular posters was spoiled by arrogant, vulgar, obnoxious horn dogs, I can get that at the grocery.

Two different frames of mind, I think.

I've ventured into the chats here two or three times, and I find it boring.  For the most part, the participants are actually very friendly and welcoming, but I think in general they are more into just kicking back and joking around...It's all "fluff".  There's just no substance there.  Whereas on the message boards, people are more into discussing topics of a serious nature.  It's two different animals, therefore each is going to draw a different kind of crowd.

Only in the extremes of boredom do I ever chat.  I am so much happier with meatlife that I do not waste My time.

I find chat rooms, the good ones, to be places where regulars hang out-- they get a beer or a glass of wine, watch TV, and chat about the day. I used to be a regular in the b.com AVchat room, and found it to be something that can use up huge amounts of time. The bad chat rooms-- oy. Nasty, mean people who are simply looking for easy fap fodder.

I'm both in forums and chat rooms (yes, holiday gives me a plenty of time). I must admit I dislike crowded rooms, though, because I am never able to catch the talking, which usually takes between people that already know each other.

I went to the chat room once, this was way back when I first joined I went to newbie chat where they were talking explicitly about rape fantasy I said I thought it inappropriate for newbie chat they didnt agree I never went back

Ive checked them out didnt see anyone I "knew" and gave up pretty quick.
Thought about setting up a CM ventrilo. Then I could get other stuff done while listening to people rabbit on. Only problem is how to drag all the posters in.

I fully agree with marie2. The ability to peruse archived debates and passionate, well articulated exchanges (or be a part of them) is much more fun and informative than what internet chat's long-toothed and flat-line stream of consciousness produces. It's a big anonymous waste of time, in my book. I prefer to sit back and speak casually in real time with people you can see, hear and touch. Life's too short to be "hanging out" on the internet as well.

When I joined CM, I ventured into the chat rooms a couple times. It appeared that the participants were mostly folks who chatted with each other on a fairly regular basis. I couldn't follow what was going on and felt like I was intruding, so I tiptoed out. I'd actually forgotten about the CM chat rooms and may take a lookie loo. [:D]

I made the mistake of going into the chat rooms once. Once.

While I may not have a lot to say these days on the message boards, I prefer talking to people in this medium than I ever would in the chat rooms. I've tried, but the posturing chases me away almost every time. I can't pretend to play at submission, and that's what it always feels like to me, no matter how hard I try to take it seriously.

Well I just popped into both the Off  Topic and Politics & Religion chatrooms and I was the only person there, so I can't see what the attraction might be.

I enjoy both the forums and the chat rooms. I have moderated a few of the rooms over the years but really have no time or interest in doing so now. I am a regular in at least three of the rooms as I can have a quick cach up with RT friends that are scattered around the globe. I agree that it can be 1) boring if one wanders into a room created for friends to catch up in. Everyone is welcoming but chat is specific to regional munches events etc. 2) nauseating in rooms tha are deicated to online play 3) great fun if the mix is right. On refelection not that much different from the boards, people are people

Whether joking or serious, I think if you put a sarcastic bent to the above phrase you will get a good idea of what I think about any chat room environment I've ever experienced. Not going to waste my time.
