Mercnbeth -> Working without a Teleprompter...AARP "Endorsement" - Uh...No! (8/11/2009 7:11:35 PM)

This isn't good! Hell, No, I'm not in favor of this attempt, but no way do I want this Administration to go down in flames. It will just make matters worse, and get there faster.

The link has the video. I'm sure it will be "spun" someway. Let's see, "I was careless and didn't know..." Nah - that only works with steroids. Did he misquote himself? He thought he read it on page 596 of the pending Bill...

Damn - got to come up with something....

I know....President BUSH told him it was part of the trade off for passing Bush Stimulus II! Yeahhhhh, Him and all those BASTARD Republicans!
quote:

President Obama today suggested that the health care reform legislation for which he’s pushing has been endorsed by the American Association of Retired Person.

“We have the AARP on board because they know this is a good deal for our seniors,” the president said.

At another point he said: “Well, first of all, another myth that we've been hearing about is this notion that somehow we're going to be cutting your Medicare benefits. We are not. AARP would not be endorsing a bill if it was undermining Medicare, okay?”

The problem?

The AARP hasn't endorsed any plan yet

No - I MEANT CARP - Since I pushed for the Global Warming Religion, I'm big with fish!

It's NH early in the campaign, maybe he's just tired...

I think we would of been screwed with either president. >_>

servantforuse -> RE: Working without a Teleprompter...AARP "Endorsement" - Uh...No! (8/11/2009 7:35:47 PM)

Getting an AARP endorsement for this bill might be a challenge. It is not the 30 something crowd attending these town hall meetings. It is the 50 year old + generation. AARP management leans way to the left and they will have a problem supporting something a majority of their members disagree with.

Also
while arguing in favor of government health care (without a teleprompter), he said this:

'UPS and FedEx are doing just fine. It's the Post Office that's always having problems'...

UPS and Fed Ex are both making a profit. TheUSPS is running a 7 billion dollar deficit this year alone. I think they should raise the price of stamps another 2 cents. That has been their answer in the past.

Sanity -> RE: Working without a Teleprompter...AARP "Endorsement" - Uh...No! (8/11/2009 7:54:10 PM)

They've just committed to cutting services and shutting down a lot of post offices all across the country as well.

Looking at these 3 companies alone is enough for me to not want the federal government running our health care. What more do you need as an example.?

tazzygirl -> RE: Working without a Teleprompter...AARP "Endorsement" - Uh...No! (8/11/2009 7:59:03 PM)

Just a question... wasnt Beck under the same impression? that AARP was backing Obama?

Sanity -> RE: Working without a Teleprompter...AARP "Endorsement" - Uh...No! (8/11/2009 8:07:45 PM)

Bet he doesn't try his hand at public speaking without TOTUS again any time soon!

You would have thought he had learned his lesson by now.

Seems many are confused as to the AARP endorsement.

DomKen -> RE: Working without a Teleprompter...AARP "Endorsement" - Uh...No! (8/11/2009 8:46:06 PM)

You know for an organization that doesn't support health care reform the AARP sure does have a nice site demanding health care reform and debunking the right wing lie machine.

You apparently have a reading comprehension problem. Nothing new. They support health care reform, they do not support the bill as it stands.

tazzygirl -> RE: Working without a Teleprompter...AARP "Endorsement" - Uh...No! (8/11/2009 9:07:38 PM)

your own man Beck thought the same thing.

tazzygirl -> RE: Working without a Teleprompter...AARP "Endorsement" - Uh...No! (8/11/2009 9:09:47 PM)

hell, even AARP's own members belived AARP was supporting Obama. maybe they should speak up clearer

This analogy was wrong on so many levels. It was in response to a question on private insurers competing with the Federal Government, and he rolls out this example. Well, guess, what OB? Those companies don't compete with the Post Office because they are prohibited from providing regular mail, and when the PO got into the business of Express Mail, it was because they have a captive market in delivery to PO boxes.

Then he was arguing that it would be a level playing field between private insurers and the government option..fair competition. Yeah, fair competition like the "unsubsidized Post Office". Problem is that the PO received 3 billion in capital from the Federal government, and as recently as 2005 received an additional $1/2 billion, and 2003 $3/4 billion.

You mis read something or flat out ignored something again. AARP definitely endorses health care reform, the website I linked proves that. AARP has not officially endorsed any particular bill (there are at present at least 2).

But there was no claim in this thread that AARP DOESNT support health care. Your intro phrase "You know for an organization that doesn't support health care reform the AARP " implies there was. We know its just your usual snarky bullshit, but dont expect it to not be pointed out

Wait a second, comments about teleprompters and the rest of it wasn't snarky? This whole thread is snarky bullshit. You guys want to get hypertechnical about the use of a word and I'll feel free to respond in kind.

TRICARE military healthcare system.  How's that for an example?

I worked for the government contractor contracted to coordinate services for TRICARE.  Yes, it's managed care.  There is a Tricare Service Center on every military base where there are human being you can talk to who will look at your medical records when you are moved to a new base and write referrals for you to see a doctor that can provide continuation of care so that you don't fall through the cracks or be unable to see a specialist because you are a new patient.  This is NOT a Death Panel (per Sarah Palin)  who decides if you get to live or die, these are dedicated people who want to make healthcare easy and affordable for our military and their families.

The same contractor also contracted for Medicare claims processing as well as Medicare Advantage, as alternative to supplemental insurance that has been bilking seniors for decades.  The contractor has to be willing to undergo intense government regulation and audit.  Something private insurance companies would not like at all.

If government run healthcare is so horrible, why doesn't everyone in the military drop their Tricare insurance and buy a private plan?  Medicare Part B is not free, there is a monthly premium.  So why don't all the seniors opt out of Part B and buy private insurance?  If you get a health plan at your work, chances are, it's managed care.  HMO or PPO with the same Death Panel deciding what is covered, what is not covered, what doctors you can and cannot see.  Right?  In addition, every one of those private plan has a lifetime limit of one or maybe two million.  That's about one organ transplant.

What you are describing is a comparatively tiny program, and if they tried to cover all 300 million Americans with it (except for the president and Congress of course) then you wouldn't even be able to recognize the monster that it would have to become.
