What you just said is the dictionary definition of anecdotal evidence. It's informatively useless.

Show me any real double-blind tests you've conducted to arrive at this epiphany. Show me where the percentages of these phantom young-girl pregnancies that happen because they want it to happen skew heavily towards secular girls rather than those with a theistic concept.

I appreciate that you espouse beliefs that require self-delusion and, therefore, are capable of turning that modus operandi in the direction of accumulating supposed "evidence" and "experience", but the moment you start making idiotic and insulting remarks about the hardhips of people being non existent because of their secular views or, worse, insinuating that they are sought out in some hedonistic fashion because of it, you've lost all online credibility.

It's sad.

Yes, there are young girls raised in a society filled with fucked up gender roles who get pregnant for bad reasons. Remove religion from the fray and you start to address the source of a lot of those gendered issues, lowering the number of girls who make those choices.

When you add education and accessible contraception, you reduce unwanted pregnancies, period.

I feel sorry for every young woman who had to endure your pompous self-righteousness, then, while they were going through what may have been the hardest moments of their lives.

That you couldn't get your morality-swallowed head out of your buttocks long enough to consider that they were suffering the consequences and decisions of mistakes we can all be prone to long enough to actually treat them as human beings rather than statistics in your dichotomized deluded head is a disgrace to health workers and volunteers everywhere who treat the people they are helping as...you know...people.

But go ahead. Tell us all about how you only saw atheist and agnostic teens jumping around with pom poms begging for their abortions because they loved how it feels. Tell us how all the good little theist girls were lined outside, virgins, crying for the fetuses.

Tell us again how those who choose to undergo abortion are only doing it because they are selfish, self-centered immoral deviants who couldn't keep their legs shut.

Pathetic.

Ok then explain to me, why we arnt allowed to teach about Condoms and other forms of birthcontrol in schools right now? Well at least when I was in school.
The Religious right has kept that sort of teaching OUT of schools, mainly because of the idealology that birthcontrol is against god.

If we did teach about birth control in schools, well we wouldent have to have an anti-abortion/pro-life movement because of teen mothers or pregnant teens wanting abortions would we?

You really are an idiot. i watched as the christian ladies led girl after girl AWAY from the clinic, and applauded each and every one who left. i delivered babies to girls as young as 13 who had only skid marks after a delivery, and held them as they cried in post partum because the "daddy doesnt love me". my heart broke as these girls had to deal with a hard life, but its one they chose, and all i could do was inform and support them. the OB/GYN's worried that i was too close to these girls.

my point in saying that abortions would rise because those christian ladies wouldnt be around to lead them off that track to abortion as i have seen so many times before.

now, get your head out of your own ass and realize not everyone has a heart of coal like you believe.

if that is your belief, then its a pro for religion no longer being around. which is what im seeking.. the pros and cons of the death of religion. not what religion does or does not allow/give/support or prevent

You know, I had an abortion at 16.

I was also on birthcontrol at the time I had sex, and I used a condom.

Still got preggers.

Still had an abortion.

I did it for the simple fact, I was 16. I did not need to raise a kid at my age. I made an INFORMED choice to have an abortion, knowing the father of the child, was a fucking loser, and I would get no help from him. Some of hedonistic, non-theistic woman, actually make smart informed choices.

This is SUNNYFEY btw, i cant seem to get this to sign out of my roomates profile on the forums...tarded

Funny how just the girls that chose to go through with a pregnancy you used your morality to influence them to have feature prominently in your story.

And the others get characterized as deluded and "intentionally [trying to] get pregnant these days to "have someone to love"".

Suit yourself. You'll paint yourself as other viewers will see you on your own.

Christians aren't the only people who are pro-life. There are plenty of atheist and other secular pro-life groups. Often doing more to prevent abortion by raising their girls with the knowledge and confidence to prevent pregnancy.

The fact that you believe that a child chose to get pregnant shows how very little you understand gendered abuse, violence, and oppression. The judgmental tone you use when discussing the tragedy of those young girls' lives shows exactly what is often wrong with the religiously motivated pro-life movement. Rather than caring about life, all life, the concern is that these horrible deviant sluts be punished with babies and won't that show them the error of their ways.

To bring the thread back around to topic, the absence of religion might allow for a society where all girls know they don't have to capitulate to a man unless they want to, and they don't have to dive into teenage parenthood because they were so terrified of premarital sex that they couldn't fathom purchasing a condom.

Religion would only cease to exist for a few moments.  Spiritual expression, the basis of religion, is an essential human activity.  We mightn't get the same religions as we have now, but we'd get some.  And of course, God exists either way.

http://www.news-tribune.net/columns/local_story_176175157.html

quote:

In Gloucester, Mass., a group of teenage girls reportedly made a pact to get pregnant. Let me say it again if you can’t believe your eyes. A group of teenage girls made a pact with each other to get pregnant. It’s OK. I can’t believe I wrote that line either, but unfortunately it is true.

All of the girls are 16 years of age and under and according to media reports they gave each other high fives when they each found out they in fact were pregnant, one by a 24-year old homeless man.

The school district has come under fire for teaching sex education classes in the freshman year and for providing a free on-site daycare center for the babies of any young mothers of the school.

However, in an age when pressure is high to keep students in school having an on-site day care is an attempt to keep these young mothers in school not facilitate getting pregnant.

For the outcry against teaching sex education in the freshman year, one need look no further than prime time television for sex education of the type that stimulates (sorry) sexual activity among hormonally overcharged teenagers.

it happens... sadly... it happens

Whew! I was wondering how Adrian got pregnant!

On topic, you told my story perfectly, Sunny. Same age, similar situation (although I was not on birth control), and the same choice made for the same reason. Thanks for posting it.

Read more closely. I didn't even insinuate that you used those words. They are a common thread in the Christian pro-life movement.

Bzzzt. Wrong. Urban legend!

http://www.alternet.org/blogs/sex/89693/high_school_%22pregnancy_pact%22_an_urban_legend/

You can wave your anecdata around all you want, but it won't change the fact that religion is often used as a tool to oppress females.

Well, Christianity wouldn't be here to oppress women and teach them not to use condoms. :P
