I hijacked this idea from another site, and thought I would see where it went here. I am a female submissive seeking a Dom, but I have a medical condition. I have fibromyalgia. It is a cronic pain condition thought to be caused by over active nerves in the mucsles. Though research, and posts in other groups, the concept of heavy percussion play might actually help relieve the pain. Releif caused by working the muscles so much the nerves calm down as the body relaxes afterwards. Is there anyone with this condition, or other cronic pain condition, that can tell me if this works? I mean, to me it makes sense, much like a deep tissue massage... Any thoughts?

[:D]

Personally, the way I think of it is that you're replacing bad pain with good pain. I've always felt that way. I find it really works well for me and it might not make the pain better per se but you're more concentrated on the good pain and the bad pain kind of slips into the background.

I have fibro as well and find that getting flogged is the best thing for me. In the future, I will try dragontails (A potential Dom is excited that I never had a dragontail before).

Don't you all feel worse like the day after or the second day after? I have some data that shows that people with fibro have or grow new nerve fiber endings faster or more than other people. With the neuro transmitter problem, sending faulty messages that we are in pain when we shouldn't be... with our muscles releasing toxin's into our body and all sorts of things going on and each of us being different, I think it is hard to say and needs to be explored. I believe that while we feel more pain than we should and two to three times more than the average person would, we can also feel pleasurable things better. So while we may feel cursed, I think we are also blessed! lol I think one miracle thing is massage... often! If I haven't had massage often, I may need a deep massage, but for days I will hurt from the massage. I read of a chiropractor in Canada that believed that if we used massage more, our muscles wouldn't tighten so much and cause the lumps we can get. It was an interesting read, but was one of the things stolen when my research disappeared and I can't find him again. I think massage may have an effect on the toxins we release too. I have to give you all credit for overcoming using pain and that I know can be helpful with me to some degree... or overriding sensation... but I haven't found a way to get through the next few days!

Fortunately, my pain doesn't affect me in a play area because I don't always have to stand. However from the other side of the equation, I have no inhibitions about playing with someone with any form of disability as long as I am fully aware both medically and comfort wise on the problem so I can find ways about it and work out what we can and can't do.

I will say pain play is one of the ONLY things that I have had help my fibro at all. Flogging or a VERY expertly applied caning does wonders! It has to be applied gently and very, very slowly build to a pretty high level to both get the relief and stave off massive subdrop later. I have to be taken pretty far to get the kind of relief I appreciate getting. I am guessing that is because, until I get to a certain level, I will not get the benefit of the endorphine and seretonin surges that occur in deep subspace. That is what keeps the bad pain away and the "good" pain just a buzzing background noise. It also evens out my emotional responses. I still will usually get a drop later, but it is mostly emotional/fatigue and passes in a day or so. The pain relief, however lasts long past that point. I have been known to be more or less pain free for a few days to as much as three weeks from a session. It was a suprising benefit for sure. It is something my partner is very honored to be able to do for me. lovingpet

nods I have two things: some medical training (plus My mother and grandmother were RNs), and a dear submissive friend from another site who is not a pain junkie per se, but like the foregoing folks, uses a nice whuppin for the same reasons. 'Dorphs Are Your Friends!

OMG... I am so not going to try that end of a flogger! I don't care what you all say! Nope... no...no...no! I can hear it now... Doctor says... three floggings a week and four spankings... we may have to cut the dose down or adujust it somehow... but we will start with this and see how you do! Lovingpet... you just don't go there! hehe I am pretty sure of what was comin there! But then... knowing you... you have never held back... well at least that I know of!

i have extreme pain on my lower back....so TheEngineer very kindly lays a pillow over that area so he doesnt hit it with the flogger. and lockit, i never get a rebound in the next couple of days from being flogged/spanked. as long as he starts slow then increases and listens to me as to if he's going too hard, i get several days of lessened pain from a session. (which reminds me its been a while...although he probably WONT cause i just got outta da hospital, dammit....) kitten who knows he's gonna say i did too much already since the laundry faerie and the clean linens on the bed faerie both came to visit today....

switch and proud of it... I really need to get down to Houston and get tortured, but I am stuck between my kid (teenager) and my mom (possible cataract surgery), so I doubt I get to fulfill anything until after Christmas.

Poor thing!!!! Here's to hopin it isn't that long for you! Back to the OP a bit, this is one of the few things that seems to get an almost 100% efficacy for fibro. It is well worth trying out no matter your usual side of the slash. The key is someone who really knows what they are doing and that you trust. lovingpet

i have met several persons that have fibromyalgia and have reported that they have a lessened need for pain meds afterwords sometimes for days. it seems that between the deep tissue stimulation and the endorphin release that the pain is either blocked or the aberrant signals from the nerves are. note these folks all had Tops/Dominants that were very familiar with them and understood their needs and responses. this is to say don't just go and find someone to give you a flogging but find a competent one and make sure of their experience
