i have met several persons that have fibromyalgia and have reported that they have a lessened need for pain meds afterwords sometimes for days. it seems that between the deep tissue stimulation and the endorphin release that the pain is either blocked or the aberrant signals from the nerves are. note these folks all had Tops/Dominants that were very familiar with them and understood their needs and responses. this is to say don't just go and find someone to give you a flogging but find a competent one and make sure of their experience

Absolutely agree! Great posting!

I hijacked this idea from another site, and thought I would see where it went here.
I am a female submissive seeking a Dom, but I have a medical condition. I have fibromyalgia. It is a cronic pain condition thought to be caused by over active nerves in the mucsles. Though research, and posts in other groups, the concept of heavy percussion play might actually help relieve the pain. Releif caused by working the muscles so much the nerves calm down as the body relaxes afterwards.
Is there anyone with this condition, or other cronic pain condition, that can tell me if this works? I mean, to me it makes sense, much like a deep tissue massage... Any thoughts?

Hi!
I have CFS (or Chronic Fatigue Sydrome, Epstein Barr if you prefer those terms more)  and I know it's the sister to Fibro.  I will tell you my regime for making sure I stay out of the pain and enjoy my myself and function.  After 10yrs plus reading up on CFS I learned what triggers it and try to combat it BEFORE the symptoms kick in.  For me it's making sure I don't ALWAYS eat bad. Right now I'm about 70/30% 70 being that I eat really clean and things I'm supposed to eat and 30% where are the burgers and fries?!

So if you're not doing that already (cleaning up the eating) then start there.  Get yourself some REALLY good vitamins. There is a liquid one they sell at GNC that is really good for Fibro/CFS people.  You can add it to your juice or take it straight, yes it's nasty, pour toward the back of your throat, lol.  Also I take the Prem/syn type pain killers, EVERY DAY.  You can take a day off from taking them so you don't build up a tolerance to them, but it will help a LOT with the pain and fatigue. You'll also want to institute drinking tons of green tea. And on the days you feel really bad and need a boost, steep your green tea in coffee.  Better than any energy drink on the market and won't irritate your Fibro. I also have to take a claritin or some sort of allergy combatant every day, helps keep the blood cell count normal so I don't feel as fatigued. And as always talk to your doctor first. These are things that I've found over the years that work for me.  And my playing was just fine ;)  Good luck!

All of the things you mentioned can and do help some people. This idea of heavy play being something that also helps, MAY also be another. I do find far more agreement than disagreement on this. I have seen a few who say it doesn't help, or even makes matters worse, but compared to the efficacy of most "mainstream" medical therapies, it is quite successful!

The heavier the percussion play, the more intense a session that helps me reach a point almost outside of myself, the higher levels of endorphins and and adrenaline and other odd hormonal rushes that are achieved the better i feel, the more able i am to cope, finesse or factor in the pain i usually feel.

That and the intensity of the connection and focus on anything but the pain, the interplay with another human being who understands but also wants me to have that cathartic challenge to the status quo, all conspire to take me out of my uncomfortable zone for a fair amount of time. To feel not only the rhythmic, deeply penetrating massage of percussion play, the exchange of pain stimuli, the chemical rebalancing and the touch of skin on skin, it's a fair conspiracy of elements that work magic.

As with a lot of physical activity that helps invigorate one, there can be payback at a later time, but to be honest the relief i feel, the high, the glow that i radiate, all are worth that payback, seriously!

Oh, the list of what ails? Osteo arthritis, Rheumatoid arthritis, Ankylosing spondylitis and Multiple sclerosis.

Flog on!

Slightly off topic (but not much)  -  since meeting my Sir - and his toys - i haven't had a migraine in three years - after having one once a month for the past 22 years.

Do i think there is a corrolation?  -  heck yes, but damned if i know what![:D]

Absolutely it works. While I am not a submissive, I do have fibromyalgia, and I get an endorphin rush from pain play, as the top. Now, I also have a dislocated joint in my foot, so I have to plan the footing and not session after I just walked all over the grocery store, but it's entirely doable. Currently part of my personal regimen for managing my fibromyalgia is four orgasms in rapid succession at least once a week, so as to trigger the endorphin rush. and the relief lasts two or three days. Nice to have one therapy that doesn't have annoying side effects....

Why do I suddenly feel the urge to beg my partner to move sooner just so I can have the "medicine only he can give"???? As if I'm not missing him enough right now!!!!! [>:]

Have you considered maybe a tens unit?
