Of course the ironic thing is, although it's true organized religion has oppressed people, overtly atheist countries like Soviet Russia killed and oppressed more people than, say, the Spanish Inquisition.  Maybe I'm sounding a bit politically incorrect -- oppression basically sucks, whether religious or not.  Unless of course you want to be oppressed...  [;)]

I don't go to church at this time but I'm not against it. It can be very uplifting to be around like minded people, no?

I do believe in God and talk with him daily now, so no you don't need to go to church to have a relationship with Him.

I'm a spiritual person - I believe in God. I don't follow any particular religion, because I feel that my relationship with a higher power is intensely personal and doesn't need to be expressed through any one set of practices, tenets or dogmas. That said, I do very much like the ritual of Mass - it's very soothing and reminds me of my childhood. So, I go every once in awhile.

very true.  Spirtual gatherings can be soothing.

Though in my youth, when I was at church every Sunday (plus some evening services) it was always a robotic routine......all stand up sing a verse, sit down while we hear a bible reading.....up to sing a hymn....down to hear a bible reading....up for a hymn....down for minister preaching.....heads lowered for a prayer.  By this point, an old bloke in the back pew, always started jangling the coins in his pocket - which was his hint for the rector to wind the service up and let's be going home.

I've never been one for routines.  My brain is somewhat of a free spirit.  Routines are for zombies and those who want to brainwash.

Mind you, probably the biggest reason for me not enjoying church so much, was the fear that the preachers sought to instil in the congregation.  I could never figure why if God is good, why he'd abandon us (what he had created) to burn in hell for eternity.  That doesn't make any sense.

The old testament and the new testament are also totally contradictory in many key aspects.

I know several people who are devout Christians.  The interesting thing is, none of them are part of a -religion- or -church-.  They are the most beautiful and serene people.  Their relationship with God does not come from a church, it comes from their internal heart connection to the divine.  They pray, read the bible, and do not proselytize, but are happy to talk about it if you ask them.  They live their faith, not wearing it like a coat, but it is part of their whole being.  They are amazing to be around as they have a deep sense of wonder and excitement, with a rock steady underlying feel to them.

I know similar people and they radiate goodness from within....beautiful people.

It's what is in someone's heart, and their actions.....as opposed to what they say and claim to be.

Tony Bliar being an example.....the Jimmy Swaggert of British politics.

I suppose there would be several things wrong with bdsm in the christian's eyes.
1) Thou shalt have no other Gods before me. They might think we put our master or mistress above God.
2) The bible talks about loving your body because God created it in "his" image. They may not understand that hurting ourselves[sm=banghead.gif] or allowing others to hurt us[sm=crop.gif] is a way to keep loving ourselves. (if that makes any sense)
3) Also I'm sure they take issue with the female have power over a male but I'm sure they'd be slightly happier with the male over the female as they do teach submission [sm=bowdown.gif]to the husband in church.
4) Annnd of course there's that whole crusade against homosexuality and sodomy[sm=passthelube.gif]

My answer to the OP is that Christianity is not at all inconsistent with a male dominant D/s household, even regarding most of the sexual practices that are engaged in.  It is consistent with Ephesians, where the wife is commanded to submit to her husband even as the church submits itself to Christ (a level that can be said to be absolute).  Even the act of disbursing physical discipline is not discouraged in the Christian faith, provided that it is done in a loving atmosphere, as practiced in most D/s households.  Christianity is more about what one believes than what one does, unlike most religions.  There are certain practices that Christianity would condemn, things like polyamory and requiring one's wife to engage in sexual conduct with other people.  But these things are hardly endemic to a D/s relationship.

In my case, though, Christianity is probably inconsistent.  I am a believer in female supremacy and that is not at all in psynch with the New Testament, though it does have some basis in the Old Testament.  Of course, christian advocates of a femdom relationship justify it by saying that the man chooses to be submissive and the woman submits to that submission, making him the de-facto leader, but I personally find the logic a little "stretchy".  Interestingly, the Old Testament, with its inclusion of "Lady Wisdom" and the bit in Micah about the day when "the woman will encompass the man", makes an interesting argument for prophecy of female authority.  I choose to accept that wisdom over the New Testament, which is to say that I am not a Chrsitian.  Just my thoughts and (naturally) humble opinion.

Y'know, this topic reminds me of the other night when I stumbled across this "Christian" flash game site. It was pretty much like any other flash game site, except...y'know, more Christian. And by that, I mean they just post a random Bible quote somewhere. Other than that, it was just like any other filthy ol' "secular" (the creator's own word) site. Yeah, the dude who made it? He apparently didn't like all these dirty, filthy secular flash game sites, so he made an exact replica of those sites, but with random Bible quotes and the ocassional Jesus fish.
And what sort of good, Christian games does this place have? Games where you shoot up zombies, of course! What says "family values" more than blowing off a zombie's limbs, then making a reference to some random scripture for no readily apparent reason? And in case you think I'm making this up, here's the site:

http://www.godlimations.com/

"God's animation be done"? Is it just me or does this seem to make a mockery of Christianity more than anything? Doesn't this seem to not take the faith at all seriously? And this is coming from a freakin' atheist!

The Christian religion has become something so entrapped in the Bible it is ridiculous. Truly, at its heart, Christianity is about connecting on a spiritual level. And in BDSM you connect with your playpartner on a spiritual level. That is what they have in common.

Unfortunately Christianity and BDSM alike have been tainted most by those who claim to live those lifestyles. Christians strictly follow the Bible, which Jesus had never instructed (nor God Himself, for all we know) and BDSM players claim the lifestyle without truly understanding the ethics and purpose of the practice.

But, thus is life!!
