That many lefties, now that the Democrats and the Obama administration have had much hypocrisy revealed, have switched over the topics in the forums to diss religions, and Christianity in particular?

Kinda like squeezing a balloon, seems like. The hatred just has to come out.

I believe it's unfair to assume that 'lefties' are not of christian faith and that religion strictly a conservative domain.

I don't see it being a left or right thing.  I see it being a new poster thing.
The posters that have made the majority of the new posts on religion are fairly new posters - and think that everything they have posted is new and not posted before.

Cycles.  That is all it is.

This would be another one of your impartial efforts to stimulate intellectually honest debate, then? Got it.

So you don't think that the run of "Religion is bad" threads has any relation to the politics of the moment?

Firm

Religion is bad.

I was wondering how long it would take you to come in and say that. Now where is Brain with some of his links.

It's ok... he is on his way.  He is just stopping by the other religion and healthcare threads first.

I think that, on my end, I haven't even really -thought- about what Obama's religious affiliations are. It just never occurred to me to give a damn (especially because I think that religion and politics should be like ships that pass in the night -- the most they should be able to do is blow hot air at one another and maybe make grunting or mooing noises).

I, for one, was sort of glad to see some "religion" topics posted in the "Religion and Politics" section... it was a nice change from all the political discourse (read: dead horses and stinky poo) that I've been intellectually masturbating to over the past several weeks. New philosophical porn is hard to come by. (Pun intended).

Firm, describing the Obama administration as 'lefties' is a bit like claiming a pat on the head is hardcore S/M.

But I see your point, because I guess you feel Obama should be focussing on the real political issues just like the right wing, right?

Or rather the fundamentalist Christian right, which appears to be dissing homosexuals.

Perhaps indeed the hatred does have to come out. Inspired by your analogy I would suggest it's like deflating a zeppelin.

When the pragmatic misrepresentation of facts generates a "he's human"

He is human, as are all the others, every president has made some huge goof... AARP was Obama's. Yet, those opposing Obama made the same mistaken in thinking AARP backed him. so, perhaps the problem wasnt in Obama completely. I think the AARP carries a bit of the blame for the mistaken information that many seemed to have had.

Now, now Stella.

You read too much in my post.

I didn't call Obama, or his administration "lefty". I'm talking about some of the voracious very left of center posters here on collarme, who seem to have gone very, very quiet in the political threads.

Ir is not hatred to point out the truth, firm. It is not hatred to point out a lie. It is no more a hateful act to point out the cruel and morally indefensible actions attributed to Got than it is to point out that having the option of a consultation once every five years about end of life care options is a "government death panel". Perhaps you are mistaking a desire to think, question and understand with hatred. That could, of course, just be a matter of your unfamiliarity with those things.

Arpig -> RE: Has anyone else noticed .... ? (8/13/2009 8:35:11 PM)

Just in case I am one of those lefties referred to...the main reason I have dropped out of the political threads is because I had my say around page 3, and the debate hasn't moved forward by page 20....so really, what's the point of reiterating. The religion threads are a little more interesting because there is a debate going on (sometimes hidden under the "God sucks" posts) unlike the political threads which after the first 2-3 pages just degenerate into Obama sucks, no Palin sucks....you started it, no you did.....it gets boring really fast.

There seems to be very little that is new in the way of political threads...there are a bunch of health care threads, but they are all pretty much the same, the same people making the same arguments for the umpteenth time (myself included). The other political threads seem mostly to be "Obama/Palin is a fuck up...look what he/she did now" threads. Really these mini scandals and screw-ups don't need their own thread, just make a post relating the details in any one of the existing Obama sucks (or Palin sucks) threads that already exist .

Anyway, that's just my take on things. As a die-hard junkie of this section of the boards, I am a little let down lately with the repetitiveness of it all. What we need is a really good scandal, say Obama caught screwing Palin or something....you know something really worthwhile. [:D]

Actually I think a big part of the problem is that Health care is the only really big thing on the horizon at the moment, but it has pretty much been done to death, we all know where we all stand. I suggest we all do a bit of reading and see if we can't come upwith some interesting topics that have nothing to do with health care, or Obama/Palin being fuck-ups.

Yes I admit I was pulling your leg but my point remains.

I am also left of centre and like Arpig states I'm getting tired of Obama said this and Palin said that and threads that don't really go anywhere over a number of pages. Repetition bores the hell out of me, and I'm getting tired of being asked 'what do you know of the States?' (and getting such hateful mails, as in the minimum wage thread) when I've shown on a number of occasions that for example when debating the death penalty I know far more about it that most Americans. And how come that doesn't stop US posters commenting say on European issues?

Yes health care is the big issue at the moment and so it should be, especially when you've got working Americans who cannot afford decent health care but like Arpig states it's been done to death and we all know where we stand.

I mean why not try and come up with new topics - like trailer parks for instance? I'm noticing that threads are moving much slower now than before which in one way is fine because there's more opportunity to come back to them but I'm also wondering whether it's also because other posters don't feel that they have much to add or contribute to the threads right now.

Yea, I sat and listened to a couple talking about gay marriage and how "those perverts" were going to ruin this country. Made me sick and I finally moved away just to get some peace. I would have said something, but I was at church and I did not want to cause a scene. Not worth the energy and I know I would not have changed their minds so why bother. Now I am kinda sorry I didn't, but tomorrow is another day.

Oh and for the record the couple in question were liberals not right wingers. Imagine that.
