I just had a thought...
Who decides if a post warrants a posters death or if it suicide by posting?

LaTigresse -> RE: Death By Posting (8/16/2009 7:53:02 AM)

I think each person reading their words will define whether or not the person that wrote them is brain dead or alive.

lateralist1 -> RE: Death By Posting (8/16/2009 7:59:26 AM)

Didn't realise the forums were a popularity contest.
I don't post to be liked but to learn and teach.
I've learned a great deal about people and life.
Perhaps I've taught someone a thing or two.
I certainly didn't come here to learn about BDSM or teach anyone about it.
I have the same views as I have always had about that.
I agree if you don't like the heat get out of the kitchen.
I've never changed my nic. If I did then people who wanted to find me after losing touch wouldn't be able to would they?
It takes time for subs to go from 'Do me in the way I want' to ' I understand now you can do what you want to me'

OrionTheWolf -> RE: Death By Posting (8/16/2009 8:06:10 AM)

Very interesting topic LadyPact, but then again I expect as much from you. I actually like it when posters do these kinds of things, as it allows me to avoid even communicating with them. I do not believe that they should create a new profile, I believe they should learn from their mistakes and grow as a person. I have much more respect for someone that makes a huge mistake, but then over time they recognize these things and improve themselves. Creating a new profile seems slightly deceitful to me.

take care,
Orion

SassySarijane -> RE: Death By Posting (8/16/2009 8:07:55 AM)

I don't see them as a popularity contest and I don't think that was what the OP was about at all. To me it was more about the attitudes of certain types of posters and if they should start fresh by changing nic and profile because of their asshatery in the forums.

LadyP,
i may be weird here, but i have certain beliefs here.... i don't really care if people change their profile or nic or whatever... Because the reality is if they don't change their beliefs...if they don't change the behaviors....if they don't change their communication...if they don't change their core values...if they don't *do* anything...They are going to continue the same off the wall obnoxious behavior that both annoys me and makes me look at their posts the way people look at horrible accidents.....
i'll freely admit my first few posts were about as intelligent as that of a brain dead zombie... i think i earned my knocks fair and square....

Arillis -> RE: Death By Posting (8/16/2009 8:24:26 AM)

Do not be so naive as to believe everyone coming to these boards is either prepared to or willing to relinquish their own life experiences beliefs and values simply to be absorbed into a commonly practiced gang-like mentality. Neither should you jump to the conclusion that many commenters’ on these boards are not saying exactly the opposite on the other side. In fact, identifying and eliminating those submerged in that gang like mentality is and should be the first order of business if one is going to use these boards as a source of brief diversions throughout the day

I agree with this perspective....(I'm not agreeing your first posts were those of a brain dead zombie btw).
Not only is it dificult to post from the perrsonal without getting flack but it is difficult to change...I don't mean in reality it's difficult to change but it's difficult to appear to change on these forums and most forums. It is as if forums have indelible history. This has a great deal to do with the fact of course that the majority of posters here have not actually physically met each other. Physically meeting in real time very often means that people show up as different from their on line personas and their avatars.
It also has to do I think with te infrequency of posting. If someone 'crossed me' in a thread say last year the likelihood is that not only have I changed my hair colour but I have changed my mind. But it's difficult for some to let go of history. To contain me, to try to understand me, to accept me or 'train' me it is often the easiest solution just to simply dismiss me.
MAD, BAD or SAD are the labels usually accrued. I always live in hope that the world of bdsm has a more liberal and open-minded approach than the average mjority. But I wonder often if this is the case. Just as much bigotry, judegment and prejudice as anywhere else???

leadership527 -> RE: Death By Posting (8/16/2009 8:41:55 AM)

I'm not a big believer in death by anything except death. EVERYTHING is recoverable unless you decide to actually kill yourself. So for me, I'd prefer to just own up to mistakes and stupidity and try to recover whatever respect/whatever I might've lost. The concept that I'd basically hide from my own mistakes is... unpalatable.

sirsholly -> RE: Death By Posting (8/16/2009 8:43:56 AM)

if i screw up i admit it. i would not allow myself to hide behind another name/profile.

Me neither. The only reason I did not return to CM with My old name, after having deleted My account and left CM previously due only to rampant disillusionment and not to some mistake I'd made, is because the system won't let a name be re-used like that. So I had to pick a new name.
If I screw up, I make it right and move on.

I find people in general don't have to admit their mistakes because there is always someone around to point them out.

This is why I don't admit my mistakes because it just adds fuel to the fire, there is always someone to admit my mistakes for me.

Arillis -> RE: Death By Posting (8/16/2009 9:09:33 AM)

I think where the OP is concerned is she is perceiving death in terms of not being accepted by the gang she is part of while failing to recognize acceptance into that gang was never the intent in the first place.
Not everyone coming to these boards is searching for a counterpart, acceptance, or even diverseness in thinking’s. It is rather like going to a restaurant where the food is below your accustomed standard but time is limited and the restaurant is close. You appease the hunger while knowing you will dine later in far more elegant surroundings.

ok...so i don't have to admit a mistake but i do anyway because it is simply the right thing to do.

FullCircle -> RE: Death By Posting (8/16/2009 9:22:38 AM)

Is it? I could think of a situation where admitting your mistake could be very bad indeed. Say theoretically you were the leader of the free world and you admitted spying on North Korea this could lead to War.[8|]

oh please. I am a wife, mom and submissive, among the other hats i wear. Save that "leader of the free world" crap for the political thread.

FullCircle -> RE: Death By Posting (8/16/2009 9:40:19 AM)

I admit the scope of the example could be a little beyond this here thread.[8|]
