Good finally the correct target. Lets see if its ever marketed to them. They tested birth control pills for men at one time too.

This is the same argument "the right" uses to dissuade from teaching about *any* form of birth control other than abstinence. According to "the right," if you tell young ones there are other ways of preventing pregnancy and STDs other than abstaining, you're giving them carte blanche to hold weekend orgies.

Sane, rational people know this is not the case.

As it's been said already, sooner or later almost everyone becomes sexually active. Your "one twoo love" could be a carrier and never even know it.

As I'm not a girl and nowhere near my teens, I have no opinion on the vaccine. But I'd caution your daughter on using "the right's" favorite pro-abstinence arguement. If you lend credibility to them, they'll never shut up. And we all know what happens if they get their way -- young ones grow up believing stupid ideas such as "jumping up and down after sex prevents pregnancy" or "drinking bleach will kill off STDs." (Taken from an actual article of sex myths passed around by young ones.)

All that the BC pills do is make the men grow breasts and cry for a few days (My BC pills experience has been severe cramping and heavy flows).

If men are supposedly the carriers, how would a vaccine help them? You cannot vaccinate against that which you already have.

Actually Loki, she does NOT advacate abstinence. If you read what she had me post, you will see that.
She does, however, advocate education on ALL possiblities. Her argument is that the 'professionals' are telling people that this drug will STOP THEM FROM CONTRACTING cervical cancer, which to her, is wrong.

Her statement that you quoted above comes from what her friends have been telling HER. Their information is coming from their own parents. BUT, when this was raised at the rally, the speaker completly ignored it and instead insisted that the only way to be safe, was to get the shot.

Alot of teenagers have said the same thing; that what THEY are hearing is that it's ok to have sex if you get this shot...and these teenagers are getting their information from misinformed parents.

edited to add:
She's actually a strong supporter of safe sex practices; which includes abstinence, birth control, condom use, etc.
She also supports public and private education for all children ( pre-teens, teens, young adults ) concerning sexual activities; the consequences, responsibilites, etc. She differs from me in opinion on this...she says that while it starts with parents, it should extend to schools, doctors, religions, etc ....where as I believe that it should be the parents responsibility to teach their own kids.

Well, I have read that Blowjobs are the new kiss goodnight. Prevents unwanted pregnancy and all....

Well they are marketing to 8 year old girs. so hopefully 8 year old boys are not sexually active yet either.

Perhaps they want them prepared for whatever age they get curious. My best friend was 15. I've heard people say they were younger.

I think you might want to do some re-reading yourself. I never hinted at what your daugheter does or does not advocate. However what she said to the speaker suggests very similar lines to what those people who 'freak out' over sex ed in schools point to as a possible outcome.

If that's true, then this new generation is more full of idiots than I originally thought. And it just adds fuel to the fire of the nutcases who swear up and down that making condoms available leads to orgies in locker rooms. If the teens themselves agree that they're 'hearing' that the shot makes it all hunky-dory to have sex, then they are simply proving the self-righteous, overly religious wake-jobs right. And soon they'll be back to square one. "Hey guys, did you know if you drink mountain dew after sex, it kills the sperm so the girl doesn't get pregnant?!" [8|]

Yes. AND it should not be for girls only.

Had to jumpthrough Irish, gotta go to work soon. But I will say this, what did you expect ? Let's see, outspoken but at the right times, a sense of responsibility for her own actions, all that. You've created a monster. Soon she'll be outsmarting YOU !

I would not be embarrassed at all. The speaker was full of shit. Does their vaccine prevent AIDS, or even the clap ? hell no.

And you spoke of her starting to drive, maybe it's time for her to get a job as well. Many of the better Parents I know (based on results) make/made the kids pay their own insurance. At least their portion of it. That way when they get a ticket, not only do they have to pay the fine, next year's insurance is going up.

I'll read this whole thread later, I am sure it is quite interesting but I thought I would slip this under the door.

I would be proud as hell, I would've torn the guy up though. Y'all are just too nice. Just what does this magic pill do for other STDs or pregnancy for that matter ? Sound like a shill for the drug companies to me.

T

PS More later after a readthrough, I am just running a bit late today.

After some research, There is a reason it is not being marketed to boys.

Most would be Carriers, and the Vaccine will not work if you are a carrier, it would seem that it could actually make it worse as to vaccinate Boys would most likely just create a new strain.

Also I would have been more conserned that this Shot was being mentioned with Contraceptives because it ISN'T ONE!! It will not stop Pregnancy, it will not stop AIDS, or ANY STD or VD, what it is used for is protect again some strains of HPV which has a direct cololation to Cervical CANCER, Guys Cancer is NOT an STD. So if this shot will help someone possibly escape a higher risk of cancer, shouldn't it be given some serious thought?

Then again who knows maybe in 40 years we'll find out it is linked to causing Breast or Colon Cancer.

You never know.

I am Glad that my Great Grandfather took the Polio Vaccine because it saved his life as many of the children in the small town he grew up in did not drive to the city for the shot and 27 children died of Polio that year in his small town alone.

Well, STeel, that new strain wont be covered by the vacine either. there is just as good a chance that an 8 year old boy is not a  carrier as a 8 year old girl. Thats who they want you to give it too. Thats the age. So the boys being a carrier doesnt fly at the age we are speaking about kids being vacinnated. Which leads back to the question of whether its really affective anyway?

Rule -> RE: OMG...it seems that my open talk policy is coming back to haunt me (8/20/2009 9:31:33 AM)

FR

A lot of chronic diseases always existed, but there is a strong suggestion that they became more prevalent after vaccinations were invented.

I would recommend vaccinations only to people whoms immune system is impaired - like anyone over 53 years old. Mine is impaired since i 'died' and I definitely benefit from influenza vaccination (also because it reduces the herpes trouble I experience during and after the flue).

Stds will become extinct when people are more faithfull to their partner.

IrishMist -> RE: OMG...it seems that my open talk policy is coming back to haunt me (8/20/2009 10:21:40 AM)

I'll be honest. As of yet, I fail to see ANY advantages to getting this shot.

Ok yes, it MAY stop HPV from LATER IN LIFE morphing into cervical cancer.
BUT...we are talking 20 to 40 years down the line.

Even the professionals can't say at this time whether or not getting this shot is a GOOD thing. They won't know this for sure for another 20 to 40 years when they find out if those who got the shot vs those who did not show signs/or not...of cervical cancer. And then, they still have to determine the why of those who DO come down with the cancer and the WHY of those who don't. All they are going on right now are alot of if's, maybe's, and possibly's. That's not good enough for me. You take all this and weigh it against the side effects that some may experience...

No thank you...too big a risk in my opinion.

From what I can hear...your chances of contacting cervical cancer due to HPV are no better or worse than if you just went ahead and used a condom.

I was laughing so hard and trying not to.

LOL she already has one [8D] In between her practices, she works part-time as a student with animal control/and local vets.
Ohh...you know she's gonna be gone for about 6 months after December? Japan....[:(]

Andi's doc said it if for ages 8 to 26 that the vaccination is valid between those age groups and it is being discussed highly to Highschool students because of the age most kids are becoming sexually active.

Just because you CAN get the vaccine at age 8 does not mean that is who it is marketed to, in fact all the commecrials seem to show the teenage girl between 14 and 17.

littlewonder -> RE: OMG...it seems that my open talk policy is coming back to haunt me (8/20/2009 3:59:23 PM)

I have a 17 yr old and to I have no reservations at all about her getting this shot. I feel as fine with it as her getting her immunizations. I personally see no downside to it. It's simply another precaution..then again I don't have any kind of paranoia about doctors, hospitals, therapists, medicines, etc...the same people who complain about modern medicine are usually the same people who have no problems taking herbal supplements without realizing those can have the same if not more side effects and problems.

scarlethiney -> RE: OMG...it seems that my open talk policy is coming back to haunt me (8/21/2009 8:07:25 AM)

I do not have a daughter and I am very bothered by the fact that this new drug appeared out of no where and is being pushed so aggressively.
There are way too many drugs being pushed on us via commericals that have not had in my opinion enough testing for side effects or for effectiveness.

Good for your daughter for speaking her mind.

They took cigg commericals off the air because they said it portrayed the effects of using them unrealistically, they need to do the same for drug commericals.

SteelofUtah -> RE: OMG...it seems that my open talk policy is coming back to haunt me (8/21/2009 9:09:39 AM)

Now that I agree with. I just saw that people who were hurt by using Yaz or Yasmine who are seeking legal assistance should contact Robery J Debry.

All I am saying is that it should not be an issue of CONTACEPTIVE cause it isn't one and the argument that it will be used as one is RETARDED!

Cancer is not an STD or VD, however HPV is and it has been known to cause Cancer and I think being protected against it is a good thing, but who knows the side effects, however is one of the possible side effects is that you protect yourself from CANCER maybe it is worth Looking into and not just BLINDLY refusing it without doing some research.

I find it amazing how if I am willing to wait on hold or have a doctor call me back most of them will answer any question I have on certain products, as long as they are telling me about the PRODUCT and not if it should be used of not, they offten want to see a patient before they make that call.
