Nah...maybe they just don't agree with your views...some of what you post would be considered a little radical by many...I had a great debating teacher... he would talk to the class on a hot subject of the day... then he would assign you to argue the opposite view...It opened my eyes...You should try it... I mean you don't have to be enemies if you understand both viewpoints. You can discuss with knowledge rather than argue in ignorance.

discuss with knowledge rather than argue in ignorance....hey I like it...my saying for the day!!!

I consider myself in the mainstream or average at least as a person from the Northeast. Now I don't know about Texas or Alabama but Rick Perry the governor of Texas talking about secession is ridiculous. By the way I like Benjamin Franklin, a civilized and distinguished gentleman.

mnottertail -> RE: The GOP Has Become a Party of Nihilists (8/21/2009 6:50:42 PM)

Well, I think Texas (not so long ago is GW) is like all republicans, eating itself up.....ain't that like a perry and hutchinson deal (one more pubbie leaving the senate) and rwh is laying out there pretending that they aint who they are.

There should be someone up there coordinating policy, or it may appear to the great unwashed masses that the Grand Old Party is floundering.

LOL

kdsub -> RE: The GOP Has Become a Party of Nihilists (8/21/2009 7:02:07 PM)

Me too especially when it comes to beer...We are different in a way because I ignore fanatics when it comes to politics...they are irrelevant. Perry has always used that bugaboo and it has never gotten him anywhere in the Texas Legislature...He is just using it for political support from other fanatics in Texas…Hell this is America he can say anything he wants…All it will get him is a lost election. Texans are conservative but not stupid.

He does not represent the vast majority of Republicans in America…let alone Texas. One of our problems today is taking the words of fanatics and exhibitionists and assigning their views to all people of a political group.

Brain, which of those definitions do you think applies to the GOP?

But what should we expect from the author of Primary Colors...

Mnot, I guess I don't keep up with the fancy internet lingo, but what does "rwh" stand for?

That's just kind of sad.

I like what he said about Goldwater and Eisenhower, even Nixon was better than this bunch of right wing loons we have today. No wonder John Dean wrote the book, Worse than Watergate. No wonder Obama is getting no cooperation from Republicans on healthcare.

I agree with the author in Time magazine. the Republican Party is led by Rush Limbaugh.

No wonder people broke out in applause at the end. I wish Obama would hire Robert Kennedy Junior to do something. Maybe if we're lucky he will be appointed to the Senate to replace Ted Kennedy.

George Bush is no longer president but nothing has changed in the Republican Party.

Tom Ridge: I Was Pressured To Raise Terror Alert To Help Bush Win
In a new book, former Secretary of Homeland Security Tom Ridge reveals new details on politicization under President Bush, reports US News & World Report's Paul Bedard. Among other things, Ridge admits that he was pressured to raise the terror alert to help Bush win re-election in 2004.

Another Republican lie and I’m sure I can find many more.

I don't see how you can seriously consider that the GOP as a party stands for the philosophical meaning of Nihilism. The objective basis for truth for many Republicans is God. The rest are generally some variant of Objectivist, and a few screwballs floating around the fringes(all parties have those).

In reality Philosophical Nihilism is often linked with Atheism. It takes convolutions that can not be scientifically justified to create a basis of objective truth, in an atheistic framework. It can be done, but is basically the creation of a Psuedo Religion that can be critiqued in the same ways as a regular religion. IE un proven assumptions...

I knew Ron meant me, that is why I asked in such a sarcastic way, we go way back.

Perhaps you could use this thing called the internet to research terms you are un familliar with.

Another Republican liar:

Death Panel Myth Creator Resigns From Medical Board
Betsy McCaughey, the Clinton-era health care reform foe who has risen again to fight President Obama's push, has resigned from her post on the board of directors of Cantel Medical Corporation to "avoid any appearance of a conflict on interest."

McCaughey has been a Wall Street banker, a Republican lieutenant governor, and a staffer at conservative think tanks, but as James Fallows noted at The Atlantic recently, she has falsely presented herself as a neutral researcher in the health care debate. She helped give birth to the pernicious "death panel" charge against health reform legislation with a column in Bloomberg News. Asked to defend her positions on the Daily Show with Jon Stewart Thursday night, McCaughey floundered.

GOP is traditionally considered conservative. Protecting status quo against irrational changes is a traditional way conservative politics operates. Opposing the very strange law proposal US House Democrats have come out with (what they call "health-care reform") is far from nihilism. It is rather totally rational response by GOP. President Obama should oppose it as well. If passed, it may worsen his chances to win the second term.

As commentator S. Lendman puts it (I can not do better):

It's a scheme to ration health care, enrich corporate providers, and leave a broken system in place. It's a patchwork idea to repackage failure and claim success. It's a corrupted way to sacrifice real needs on the alter of marketplace medicine by doing too little and leaving growing millions out in the cold, on their own, and at the mercy of for-profit predators.

So, is S Lendman somebody who I should give a fuck about, and if so, why so?

Brain -> RE: The GOP Has Become a Party of Nihilists (8/21/2009 10:37:48 PM)

Thinking about it I would agree that the word nihilism is not a perfect fit but I think it’s adequate to get his point across. I think the author in Time magazine was basically trying to say the Republican Party is not being cooperative and is dishonest. Quite frankly I really don’t see the GOP doing anything to improve the lives of the American people. It’s a political party that has sold out to lobbyists who for the most part are corporations. It’s definitely not true that what is good for corporations is good for the American people. The fact is they are just in it for themselves, they just want to use the government to improve their own financial position. George Bush and Dick Cheney’s corporate friends made fortunes not only from the war in Iraq but the boondoggle drug bill for the pharmaceutical companies and on and on and on it goes or it went.

I don’t know what atheism has to do with this or why you’re bringing it up. If the objective basis for truth for many Republicans is God as you say then they are believing in a lie. God is the biggest lie in the history of the world. There is no scientific or objective evidence of the existence of God. When they look out in space with modern telescopes, the farther they look, the further back in time they go. And they have gone all the way back to the Big Bang and I’m sorry to say there is no God anywhere.
The Birth of the Universe Big Bang and Beyond
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hSZqhqR5XKM

People started believing in God thousands of years ago when we had no science to understand anything. Somebody said before on another thread that I didn’t have to prove the earth is flat because it’s already been proven. Well the same goes for God, the fact is they’ve gone back in time to the Big Bang and have proven scientifically there isn’t any such thing as God. He/She or it just isn’t there. Religious people have to catch up with science. Sometimes I think they just don’t want to do that, it’s not in their interests because like George Carlin said in that YouTube video I posted “they don’t pay taxes and they always want a little more.”
George Carlin - Religion is bullshit.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MeSSwKffj9o

I didn’t plan on this thread turning into a discussion about religion. And I am surprised this has happened.

You know, as Caroline Kennedy would say, you know, the more I think about this, the more I can tie this idea of nihilism to religion. Nihilism essentially means nothing and if God doesn’t exist people who believe in God are believing in nothing. So if Republicans are essentially people who believe in God then Republicans are people who are believing in nothing, or as George Carlin would say, bullshit.

When you tell me I don’t know what I’m talking about, the old saying about the pot calling the kettle black comes to mind. Trying to make sense of the gobbledygook you wrote below was difficult.

Somebody help me here please. Does anybody know what he’s talking about? convolutions ??

Science has proven there is no God so atheism makes sense to me. A lot more sense than this ridiculous idea of a man in the sky who got a woman on earth pregnant with his child. How fucking stupid people are to believe that garbage! She said that because she wasn’t married and in those days if you are pregnant without a husband they would stone you to death.

I knew Ron meant me, that is why I asked in such a sarcastic way, we go way back.” No kidding, even not familiar me figured that one out.

Perhaps you could use this thing called the internet to research terms you are un familliar with.” I don’t need to do a lot of research because I’m already familiar with a great deal.

"Science has proven there is no God so atheism makes sense to me."

Except it hasn't as has been pointed out to you several times......

I am sure you are very familiar with a great deal.

And actually they haven't gone back to the big bang, damn close but not quite there.

But why let reality interfere....
