No, it was not about Lendman. We were talking about "Obamacare" as it stands now.

Oh, one can point out all sorts of shit, like you do. This is not a necessary and sufficient condition for it to be true, germane, or any other thing in the realm of discourse, and it usually isn't but when you have no logic, you yawn or go out with friends.

And assuming we are only n-nanoseconds from the big bang (which I have some problems with the way the big bang is envisioned) with all your pointing, what you got on god today, eh?

then don't haul these dicktards in the fight like they got any more idea about what they are talking about than you.......

and what we are talking about is the party of no, obamacare is another thread

rightwinghippie -> RE: The GOP Has Become a Party of Nihilists (8/22/2009 10:13:49 AM)

It's apperantly over your head, Mnot. Why don't you make up more nonsense words, and troll someone else for a while.

Do you agree with the OP that even the Poster has backed away from, that the GOP is a bunch of Nihilists? Or is your thinking closer to mine that Klien is a hack and is not using the word Nihilist in any meaningfull sense.

The original post states "the irrational attacks on health-care reform show what the GOP has become: a party of nihilists".
I just tried to argue it does not show that. In my view, GOP opposition to the "reform" effort  is totally rational.

Brain -> RE: The GOP Has Become a Party of Nihilists (8/22/2009 11:47:45 PM)

I don't agree that there is anything rational about lying. How can you have any kind of rational discussion with anybody if they are lying? I don't have the patience to put up with craziness and discussing or trying to discuss something rational when somebody who's lying just doesn't make any sense.

Obama is trying to reduce healthcare costs even if it means more government which he does not
want, but he is pragmatic and he realizes it has to be done to reduce the deficit. It's not about ideology anymore, it's about what works.

In other countries they spend less money on healthcare and they get better results, it's a fact. And it isn't just one country it is several, so there is no question about it. But the Republican Party is only interested in protecting the corporations and doesn't care about people that are suffering because of bad health care.

GOP is traditionally considered conservative. Protecting status quo against irrational changes is a traditional way conservative politics operates. Opposing the very strange law proposal US House Democrats have come out with (what they call "health-care reform") is far from nihilism. It is rather totally rational response by GOP. President Obama should oppose it as well. If passed, it may worsen his chances to win the second term.

Brain -> RE: The GOP Has Become a Party of Nihilists (8/23/2009 12:07:06 AM)

My mother told me when I was a child you can knock on a deaf man's door all you want but he won't answer it. It reminds me of you.

So your really think if they go back that little bit extra that they haven’t figured out yet, when things were very small, as they said in the YouTube video, “smaller than a fraction of an atom” that they are going to find God??? Are you kidding me. Stop being ridiculous, you’re sounding too much like Ann Coulter.

They have done a damn good job figuring out what Einstein couldn’t 60 years ago and it’s bloody well good enough for me.

Except it hasn't as has been pointed out to you several times......

I am sure you are very familiar with a great deal.

And actually they haven't gone back to the big bang, damn close but not quite there.

But why let reality interfere....

It's meaningful enough for me to understand that the GOP is the party that offers nothing constructive. Like Barney Frank said to the lady at the town hall meeting, "On what planet are you living?'

Brain -> RE: The GOP Has Become a Party of Nihilists (8/23/2009 12:31:15 AM)

Here is an interesting movie coming out soon. This is what the Republican Party is defending. It seems we are forgetting the 1929 Herbert Hoover catastrophe we recently avoided.

I almost forgot, Barney Frank said,
Madame, trying to have a conversation with you is like trying to talk to the dining room table. LOL

I have to agree that the attacks on the health-care reform effort do not make the nihilists. If they were nihilists, they would be saying "We're all going to die. It makes no sense to try to prolong the procedure. It is better to get it all over with quickly and let the sick people die."

What they ARE is a party that has made a decision that rather than adding any ideas, concepts, or thinking to any matter of national importance, they are going to merely shout "NO!" at every possible moment, try to derail any effort to solve problems and hope that things get so bad in this country that they can panic the voting populace into returning them to power at the next election. They are also the party that currently (for the Deomcrats are not innocent of this tactic historically) who have decided to use disruption, demonetization, .and swastikas as their substitute for ideas, reason and discussion.

The difference is, nihilists are preparing for the end. Republicans just want their piece of the pie back by any means necessary.

rightwinghippie -> RE: The GOP Has Become a Party of Nihilists (8/23/2009 10:29:08 AM)

The bumper sticker talk level of talk is pathetic SOT. "party of NO" wow deep..you watch TV....Neat.

Maybe you dislike reality, and prefer your simple slogans. But even Obama has shifted the debate to Health insurance reform. And Republicans do have several ideas on the table. Malpractice reform, allowing national sales of insurace, lowering thresholds (and other improvements) for HSAs, and technicall reforms to the regulation of Insurance (no pre existing clause, among others) are just some of the ideas Republicans have tried to include.

You can disagree with some or all of these, but to pretend they are not is just ridiculous. That's how some posters roll, are you reallly one of them? We got Weak Lenny Bruce hipster immitations (where they guy never takes a stand, just snipes), we got evangelical atheists posting random links on several threads, making almost no sense. People making up words. A democrat just the other day posted Sieg heil 25 times in a row to drown me out. All to drown out the debate.

Is this really what we are as a nation?

First of all, RWH, I never used the term "Party of No"....so your personal attack, though not unexpected or out of character for both your writing style and political affiliation, is incorrect from it's inception.

Second, I think the "seig heil" was written not to you, but to me, with the explanation that that is the way many republicans have taken to using the nazi card to try to drown out reasoned debate. I can understand not reading a thousand page bill before discussing it, but not reading a two paragraph posting is intellectual laziness and nothing more.

But other than being filled with personal attack, inaccurate facts and a completely unsupported claim of facts better discussed in another thread, your post was.....for the most part, spelled correctly. Keep up the good work.

mnottertail -> RE: The GOP Has Become a Party of Nihilists (8/23/2009 11:12:39 AM)

Oh, he's not going to be here pretending very long, (same as last time), he's just forcing us to see the unreasoned approach,

That is what you said. And that is the "Party of No" mantra. My noting of the fact was correct, and not a personal attack.

I listed some of the concepts and ideas, that are out there. Your post was simply full of innaccuracies. Sorry you do not like them being pointed out.

No one on the Kennedy thread except from Dems were screaming Sieg Heil over and over.

Without this, though, most of the political discourse would fall silent.

Then we'd be forced to address actual issues.
