ORIGINAL: DomThoughts I made a comment to someone earlier today in a private message about the disparity between opening messages from women to men and from men to women. I know there is a huge 'problem' with guys who simply copy and paste a very generic message to every woman's profile on the site, and it is those guys that make this place such a difficult to make connections. My general approach is to read a profile and send a message accordingly, but have started to collect a notepad document of a few slightly generic lines, the thoughts that crop up and end up being said even when writing something reasonably unique. So I suppose my question is, what is the general approach to private messages in here? does anybody else keep such a (small) collection of partial messages for inclusion in messages (should I be admitting that!) what are people's approaches to private messages? and for the girls, what are your views on this, obviously you can spot the blanket copy and paste, but the more personalised ones, I'm curious as to what sort of ratios you get... (all part of my eternal drive to understand everything to the nth degree!) Kinds regards.... I don't send that many messages, and I never copy & paste, but then I don't tend to send long messages either. I've taken the time and trouble to set up a profile that explains as much about me as I want someone to know, as a first view at any rate, therefore rambling on for 10 pages wouldn't really achieve very much. I just tend to read the profile, then send something short but pleasantly polite, usually saying what caught my eye, profile-wise, and why. Cut & paste would make me feel as if it was all a conveyor belt. Which, in a way, I guess it is, but I still don't want to treat it as such.
