Wow - running another play from the Jimmy Carter Presidency play-book. That worked out well.

All set up for the worst right wing conservative pendulum swing in the history of the US. Castrating the CIA and their pragmatic tactics will be such an easy mark to point to when the next terrorist attack occurs.

Obviously yet another Administration attempt at distraction from the pressing issues of the day.

Hard to believe that a man of such intelligence as Obama is listening to whatever Washington 'insider' who is advocating for this. It loads the gun for killing off his Presidency. Hell, the CIA may initiate, or allow, something to occur just to make a point.

But hey - since Gitmo is still open, will he investigate there - or just use it for those bastard CIA agents trying to determine where the next 9/11 incident will occur?

Another of your Independent posts Merc?

You know, you are the most conservative Republican Independent I have ever met.

Although I rarely agree with him( respect him and like him in spite of it)...I think you judge him incorrectly.... Merc is an an anarchist!!!

Well, there you have it, quotation format learned in about 2 minutes, i never bothered to learn because i don't dissect posts, you may now find something else as picayune to find worthy of insult (as is the norm here going on personal observation), the trouble is is that you first and last sentences are still as obuse as ever. Feel free to hurl whatever personal insult you like (words with "tard" seem to be favoured in these forums) i shan't be back to this thread. you have been quite amusing also.

I don't always agree with Merc but I respect him, and one thing about him is that he's consistent.

Personally I think if torture in some form or another has been deemed necessary then it should be completely open and ratified. There should be crystal clear rules on what is and is not acceptable like any other rules of war.

Psssttttt......There are already rules on what is permissable, thats why there will be an inquiry.

Geneva or somewhere, wasn't it?

Sanity -> RE: 'Inhumane' CIA terror tactics spur criminal probe‎ (8/25/2009 3:22:34 PM)

Geneva covers uniformed soldiers. You know what the rules say is permissible to do to spies and other non uniformed combatants, don't you?

I know that polite sub but I think that clearly the laws are being broken as to an extent they alwayave been. In that case I would prefer torture in some forms was ratified so it could bem monitored  strictly rather than prisoners being extradited to countries where there is no accountability whatsoever. If torture is going to happen I would rather it would occur in England than some doss house in Islamabad.

We have done this arguement to death. Not all prisoners held at gitmo and elsewhere were captured on the battlefield. Many were held on the testimony of others, often people settling a core or after a reward. Until proven otherwise, these would be civilians.

Obama's CIA director all wee-weed up?

Obama White House v. CIA; Panetta Threatened to Quit

Tensions Lead to CIA Director's "Screaming Match" at the White House

A "profanity-laced screaming match" at the White House involving CIA Director Leon Panetta, and the expected release today of another damning internal investigation, has administration officials worrying about the direction of its newly-appoint intelligence team, current and former senior intelligence officials tell ABC News.com.

Amid reports that Panetta had threatened to quit just seven months after taking over at the spy agency, other insiders tell ABCNews.com that senior White House staff members are already discussing a possible shake-up of top national security officials. "You can expect a larger than normal turnover in the next year," a senior adviser to Obama on intelligence matters told ABCNews.com.

Since 9/11, the CIA has had five directors or acting directors.

Thats nonsense, torture is illegal, having it happen in some nice place, like the Gitmo Hilton, wont alter that fact. What you are suggesting is making an illegal act permissible. It wont wash with me Starbuck.

I have been sitting on the sidelines trying to hold back on this subject. BUT I have a need to speak up; and what I am about to say may be controversial.

How many here can see themselves as testing the bounds of slave(s) in the same manor as the military interrogators whom are employed? Can we objective say to ourselves what is fair interrogation and what is not? Are we too close to this subject to react objectively? CAN we help draw this line with out having fingers being pointed back at us as a community?

Respectfully submitted,

Its already been proven, denying it wont alter the fact that some innocents ended up at gitmo.

First off, I am not that introspective....

However; when not dealing in hyperbole, there is a vast chasm between vice-gripping a woman's clit, and merely threatening to do so.

Starbuck09 -> RE: 'Inhumane' CIA terror tactics spur criminal probe‎ (8/25/2009 3:43:58 PM)

I know torture is illegal sub, but it is beig used apparently increasingly so. If that is the cae then I think an argument can be made to legalise and codify certain practices so that prisoners being tortured can be monitored and not simply disspear in some backwater. If I thought that the geneva convention would stop all torture then that would be fine but clearly it isn't. If the reason for that is that the intelligence gathered using such methods is better than many others then I think a frank open debate about this practice needs to be had, if the intelligence services are going to do this regardless of international law as frankly it seems they always have done I would like to see them more fully accountable. Having it in England rather than some other less regulated country would make it much easier to do that.

Starbuck, we dont have it in England, as no one wants it, not since the bill of rights in 1689. Please dont tell me you are happy for it to be reintroduced here, for whatever reason.
