Thankfully, I don't have any stock in what you're trying to unload here. [;)]

Yes, absolutely! If I'd been as royally pissed on as you have been in this debate, and been shown up to be as tragic as you have been, I'd doubtless try the same tactic.

You're a star. Bless [:D]

Although, in the interests of balance, the Kennedys tended to screw up others in ones and twos, as a result of their sexual excesses, while managing decent government.

Whereas W and Co pile up bodies by the hundreds, but it's "ok" to them and theirs, coz they're "only" military people killed in an unlawful war Bush and Co started, so to them it's excusable.

But Teddy wasn't in that league of arsehole. In fact, that's actually his problem, throughout his life; he was merely competent, and not actually in any big league worth speaking of.

He's interesting to people because he lived long in a clan that burned out young, but that's not exactly a ringing endorsement.

I beg to differ. John F. Kennedy effed around while an elected U.S. President. The difference was back in those days, the press didn't dare report it.

I only know from what I learned in my history classes and doing my own research. I wasn't even born until 1980. But I've always followed U.S. history. My hope has always been that eventually someone would be elected president who really cared about our citizens rather than screwing around (literally) with lewd and unsavory sexual pecadillos.

Again, damn! I'm tired of repeating that I've never affiliated myself with either the Republican or Democratic party. I consider myself Libertarian.

I have no use for either 'two party' system since their actions are equally deplorable in my eyes. I support a Libertarian candidate who will not be affiliated with either of the two mainstream political parties.

Just from what I've read in my history classes over the years and researched on my own here on the interwebz (cough), the Kennedy family has really shown no honor or respect. The entire family has shown a blatant contempt for real family values.

Again, I also don't support GWB or his daddy. I don't know why the concept of someone supporting a non-mainstream, Libertarian is so difficult for some of you to grasp.

What I said about Ted Kennedy was in response to someone saying that Kennedy definately did not murder Mary Jo Kopechne . I was commenting on a historical mystery, and simply shared my opinion that it indeed could have been murder.

...literally incorrect. Do you really think we can't go back to page two of the thread and find your actual words.

quote:

The only theory that makes sense is that he raped her that night, then he murdered her to cover it up.

....that's not a 'could have been murder'.....that's a full blown accusation of rape and murder. Additionally you categorically rule out all other possibilities by use of the line, 'the only theory that makes sense'.
Now, maybe you only meant to suggest that it could indeed have been murder. What you actually said was quite different......as i said earlier, what you actually did was make a heinous accusation against someone on the very first day when you couldn't be held legally accountable.

i called it a cowardly act on your part and, in my opinion, you've said nothing at all to change my mind.

Completely agree - Thatcher the Milk Snatcher set out to fuck everybody over knowingly, and with full-on knowing evil.

I'm not so sure it was "evil" in her mind. To me, she was a true sociopath, utterly without any form of empathy, and preapred to do anything to make her name shine in lights.

And yes. We used to make stuff.

Now we don't.

This is bad.

Simple equation, but somehow beyond her to see.

As for Ted Kennedy: those that seek to desecrate his not-even-dug grave ought to retreat in shame.

Well personally I don't have any problems with discussing his many and myriad limitations, because the man was, clearly and evidently, fatally flawed. I actually find the fawning of liberals over his death almost as reprehensible as those attacking him without any recourse to the facts. But that's just me.

As I said a few posts back, I'm kind of doomed in this thread; I didn't like Ted Kennedy, or what his clan stood for, nor how he conducted himself, and to ask me to support him purely because of his political stances is asking a bit much. But no, I wouldn't put the boot in too hard at this stage.

Either you didn't read my post, or you didn't understand it, or you just wanted to shout a bit regardless.

mnottertail -> RE: Senator Kennedy just died. (8/27/2009 3:58:53 PM)

phil, this is from the same guy, who can synthesize what he reads in the liberal media, come to that conclusion, you posted, but as the torture miasma is coming to a head, find a way to believe the liberal media, and cut the difference between the CIA and the ARMY, and blame cannon fodder for the crimes of policy way, way, way, way, above their heads; then unequivicolly state:

Abu Ghraib abuse consisted primarly of rogue soldiers who were punished for their crimes, while the subject here in this thread is CIA interrogations.

So, I think what your not getting is it is a rightwinger, leftwinger thing.

Sanity -> RE: Senator Kennedy just died. (8/27/2009 3:59:36 PM)

My opinion was implied, sorry.

My bad, I didn't think anyone here would need to have something as obvious as that spelled out for them.

....yup, i caught that line from another thread. i agree it is a left wing/right wing thing with Sanity, but he never used to be this partisan. At core there was a sense of right and wrong (at least in his terms) that both sides could cross. Recently though he's become increasingly detached from that moral compass and is fast turning into a sort of cut price Rush Limbaugh.
This last piece of cowardice is a fairly radical departure for him....and thus worthy of the attempt to point out the error of his ways.

...this really isn't your snappiest comeback ever you know.

Why not just be a man and put your hand up to an error of judgement?

And we're supposed to believe that all of this baiting on your part, and on Ron's part, is a moderate thing???

I'm really sorry you didn't get that.

Really., I should have spelled it out perfectly clearly for you.

How's that? [;)]

Dude, seriously, you're reaching beyond the bottom of the barrel now. You’re into “hur-hur-hur!” areas.

Step away from the PC, take a deep breath, and return when you're not quite so ... er ... utterly lame.

You know it makes sense.

mnottertail -> RE: Senator Kennedy just died. (8/27/2009 4:12:10 PM)

When we do it, you characterize it as liberal whacko ruin america claptrap.
When you do it, it is a considered, thouroughly reasoned, and logical opinion.

That, is where there is a sticking point, in my case, phil can speak on his own behalf.

just saying,
Ron

what's the difference between a conservative and a fascist
A fascist is a person who believes in or sympathizes with fascism; which is defined as forcibly suppressing opposition and criticism, regimenting all industry, commerce; similar to the recent take over of GM and Chrysler; personified by Speaker Pelosi identifying the opposition as "Nazis".

A conservative would be a person who be pragmatically against any such government dictatorial control preferring, good or bad, the 'status quo'.

Wrong. I read. I interpreted your posts as being totally supportive of the Kennedy clan just because you identify as a 'liberal', and as such you have no real objectivity.

The rest of us are able to differentiate between constant criminal behavior on the part of the Kennedy family for decades despite you're wanting to glorify them.

And would this conservative then defend invading a country under false pretenses, wholesale wiretapping, the patriot act, imprisoning people without benefit of the law, torture.........
Or did you misspell something, Merc?
