This is only new news if you live in a bubble.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/science/2008/may/12/peopleinscience.religion/print

In the letter, he states: "The word god is for me nothing more than the expression and product of human weaknesses, the Bible a collection of honourable, but still primitive legends which are nevertheless pretty childish. No interpretation no matter how subtle can (for me) change this."

For me the Jewish religion like all others is an incarnation of the most childish superstitions. And the Jewish people to whom I gladly belong and with whose mentality I have a deep affinity have no different quality for me than all other people. As far as my experience goes, they are no better than other human groups, although they are protected from the worst cancers by a lack of power. Otherwise I cannot see anything 'chosen' about them."

Maybe I've been in a bubble, but I'm not really sure what a lack of power (Politically..? Secularly?) has to do with not getting cancer...?

I think he meant cancer in the sense of the evils to which people are prone. Not having power (at least at the time Einstein said this) meant that Jews were not prone to worse excesses.

He was speaking metaphorically, of spiritual cancer. He was basically saying that (at the time) the Jewish race hadn't been responsible for as many horrible acts (of genocide, etc.) as various other races, creeds or nations, but that that was simply because they hadn't had the opportunity to commit them.

If these are the words of mr. Einstein, then you omitted to put them in quotes. Or are they your own? Are you a Jew? Do you have a mutilated penis?

Anyways, the Jews were (one of) the chosen people of the god of the Jews. They were not the chosen people of any of the other incarnate gods.

A couple of quotes from Wikiquote from Einstein:
  • I have second thoughts. Maybe God is malicious.
    • Quoted in Jamie Sayen, Einstein in America (1985). Said to Vladimir Bargmann, with the meaning that God leads people to believe they understand things that they actually are far from understanding. [The Yale Book of Quotations by Fred R. Shapiro, 2006]
  • Quantum mechanics is certainly imposing. But an inner voice tells me that it is not yet the real thing. The theory says a lot, but does not really bring us any closer to the secret of the 'old one'. I, at any rate, am convinced that He does not throw dice.
    • Letter to Max Born (4 December 1926); The Born-Einstein Letters (translated by Irene Born) (Walker and Company, New York, 1971) ISBN 0-8027-0326-7. This quote is commonly paraphrased "God does not play dice" or "God does not play dice with the universe", and other slight variants.

Einstein said a lot of things in relation to God all contradictory. Why is it a brilliant mind in one field is considered a brilliant mind in any other field? If he had quoted about sustainability would his quotes be the basis for fishing quotas?

This thread seems to be trying to decide which teams he bats for thus giving that team more legitimacy and reverence.

I am curious, does anyone have any quotes by god on Einstein?

"Einstein was a very hard and dedicated worker, unfortunately his name let him down as most people now associate him with the creator of a green monster..."

There you go: "I believe in Spinoza's God who reveals himself in the orderly harmony of what exists, not in a God who concerns himself with fates and actions of human beings."

Hey! I never said that. Please do not put words that I did not say into my mouth.

(I appreciate the sense of either humor or cynicism, though. I do not mind being made fun of - as long as it is innocent fun.)

I know this because I am omniscient.

I was paraphrasing.

Here I am not:
quote:

ORIGINAL: Rule
Those who have their penis mutilated by circumcision have turned their back on the Creator and by definition are liege men of Satan.

quote:

ORIGINAL: Rule
Any male - whether or not he ever has any progeny - that has a mutilated penis contributes to the accumulation of inherited defects in the gene pool. So you and presumably your parents are guilty in shared responsiblity of causing the deaths and suffering of any child that is born with such defects.

quote:

ORIGINAL: Rule
When the mutilation of the penisses by circumcision stops eventually interbreeding will also stop, as the latter is the consequence of the former.

quote:

ORIGINAL: Rule
I agreed specifically that culture affects the gene pool.
This occurs for example as the result of the mutilation by circumcision of the penises of the males of a population. This inevitably results in cultural practices such as murdering adulterous females and inbreeding.

Those are accurate quotes. Well done.

At last: a student and archiver of the "Quotes & Truths of Rule".

The ground is prepared. Now for the next step:

Esinn, start a campaign for students to be allowed to get study points for critically examining the Q&Ts! Make sure that leading universities establish departments for the "Theology & Science of Rule"! Soon I will have converts by the billions! Muwhahahaha! (That was a manical laugh.)

Well except that you attribute genetic birth defects to circumcision....

It is a bit more complicated than that. Ask my archiver FullCircle for a quote of my post in which I explain the causality.

You, of all 1-1,000,000 lucky guests who have ever posted on this forum understand this quote right: "God does not play dice" The context here, right?

He was not talking of any "GOD" modern or ancient day theology recognizes.  A christian or Muslim who had faith in this sort of god would be excommunicated.

That quote though is commonly "quote minded", along with hundreds of others by modern day christianity.

Many modern, well not many....  But quite a few of the most respected theoretical physicists  use the word ':god'.  I am sure WiKi made some effort to describe this.

Wiki is never a good sole reference anyhow.  They are currently involved in legal battles over "free speech".

I absolutely love Wiki, I mention this so Rule does not rip the words out of context.

Honestly, if people do not understand the context - look into it.  But Einstein had absolute "faith" that natural law was not random, he knew such a thing was absolutely impossible - well according to his belief without evidence.  It was about this time, for this reason his career ended while quantum mechanics began.
