Why do you feel it necessary or unnecessary? Actually, I don't see a point for it at all unless one is dating and looking for a specific gender match or for medical reasons. Aside from that, I think gender identification (on job applications, random questionnaires, etc.) is irrelevant. Dame Calla works for me
