Two weeks ago I saw a chinchilla for the 1st time and I feel in love but I wanted to have my UMs imput in getting one so I went home when we went back to the store it was sold. Today they called me and and told me they got 3 in so I went and picked out this sweet, very active and jumpy, pure black chinchilla. I am trying to think of a creative name for her. Any ideas?

Dusty.

You will figure out why it is Ironic and Cute all at the same time the first time you give them a dust bath.

PLEASE TELL ME THEY TAUGHT YOU HOW TO CLEAN THEM?

That can Stink if you do not dust them Daily for the best options everyother day to once a week if you are okay with Musk Scent. To keep the Musk Down you will need to Dust them DAILY.

Also Cleaning Cages needs to be a Daily Activity as well otherwise you will get an Amonia Smell that can saturate carpet and walls.

CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN is the Motto of an Exotic Pet owner.

I like the name fizgig after the little monster from the dark crystal. then again chinchillas are quiet animals unlike the adorable monster from the movie.
Dusty is a cool name

Dusty is cute.

I have a rabbit, his name used to be Max.  It's now quitchewingonthefrigginmousecord.  I've lost more than one computer mouse to him.  Keep stuff like that in mind when adopting furrys of a rodent type nature.

I have a kitten that chewed everything so the house is now chew proof and when I am not using my laptop its put away. I also have a pen for the ferret (sweety) and the (chinchilla) to play in yet be confined in.

I am watching the chinchilla jump from tier to tier in her cage and non stop(she kind of reminds me of a flying squirl)she is climbing ontop of her house and jumping to the excersice wheel. She def. has a playful personality. When i brought her home I introduced her to the other animals , my dog, and 2 cats they all kissed her and she didn't freak out. lol

I am getting some wonderful ideas thanks guys.

I've kept chinchillas for five years.  They are very good little pets, very quiet, gentle, and cute.

Never let them out of the cage unsupervised.  They will gnaw anything imaginable and then some.

Never buy food or hay at the pet store.  They charge a couple of dollars for a pound of hay.  Go to an ag supply store and get a sixty pound bale of hay for six bucks.  Chinchilla feed runs about fifty cents a pound there as well.

Be careful of mixing genders in the same cage.  They can reproduce at maybe six months of age, produce two litters of two kits each a year, and live to about 18-20 years of age.  Google "Fibonacci" to get an idea.  The younguns are very cute, but... that's a LOT of chins.

I give mine chin dust anywhere from once a day to once a week and they do fine.  I should change their litter once a week but sometimes it goes two weeks.

For a real treat, I give them broken taco shells or corn chips.  If you have old bread, let it get hard and stale and then give it to them.

Get a heavy duty vacuum cleaner if they're on carpet.  The litter/hay combo is hard to vacuum up.

All right, stripped of all the math...

If you have rodents or leporids, they reproduce a LOT.  Like, um, rabbits.
