Well, Lucy - we've had two Liberal posters so far chime in to say that the idea in the pamphlet (which was the basis for the OP) is a lovely one.

Looks like the GOP was right on the money with this one!

So you are officially stating that you believe their is an actual effort by Obama and the Democratic party to deny Republicans medical care?

That's quite a stretch, Butch, I'm teasing a few people here over the vicious comments that a few others have made.

But their "jokes" have been enlightening haven't they, and probably my biggest concern with a government monopoly of anything - food, health care, etc., is that it may be misused in just such an Orwellian fashion.

Is such a thing possible?

Let history be your guide.

Tazzygirl, I may have phrased that wrong. I think Nurses are underpaid, and wasn't trying to denigrate them in anyway.

Noton this site you haven't. The only time Canada is mentioned is when American right wingers make false claims obout our health care system and when Canadians debunk those claims only to be told we are wrong, that we don't actually know what is going on,that our experiences are the exception and are extremely rare, etc. etc. That and the threads I start about Canadian affairs which generate a few replies (and they are usually pretty thoughtful ones at that....thanks guys) and then slip into oblivion. I do not ever remembering reading anything posted by a Canadian bemoaning Canada turning into a nanny state....I might have missed it,but I doubt I would have missed "thread after thread" since I tend to read any thread about Canada when I see it.

No, you're not. You're totally serious. We can tell; it's very obvious.

rightwinghippie -> RE: GOP hints Dems would deny Republicans health care (8/30/2009 12:00:07 PM)

Spinner, you should read a little better, your questions to me make no sense, and are just an party attack. You act like you want to elevate the debate, live up to it.

I am fully against the Republicans on this issue. I certainly do not demand that you adhere to a party line 100% of the time, and I would excpect the same respect back.

I oppose the current bill, and want it to fail. I want a Single Payer system. I see dangers in it, but think it is worth the risk. If you want to go search me as Luckydog, I have felt this way for a very long time.

"Oh..and as to your other question, for my part, if a person was in need of a kidney transplant and it was my responsibility to judge their candidacy for such, I would not be affected by their political affiliation at all. We are not enemies. The fact that you can bring this up at all, combined with your statement that you would have supported this bill if the party you favored was in power when it was passed seems to indicate a party vs party mentality that is not healthy for the country or it's citizens." You need to read better, I said want a single payer plan, not the piece of shit compromise that is in congress now. I am not with either party on this. I want a single payer plan. I wanted undr Bush and want it now. Are you trying to pretend that Obama is pushing for universal health care still? off topic, but I opposed the bailouts also

Like I said I think the danger is worth it. I want a Single Payer system. Mandatory yearly checkups. I am off the reservation on this, and this is my main difference with conventional Republicans. But there is a danger. me post 26

I was clear that there were benefits and dangers to the proposed web based linkage of unprecedented amounts of our medical Data. I know that Privacy is passe now, but come on, there is a risk... Here is what I wrote, please respond to it, not some fantasy version of what I wrote,

"Also in the post you snipped from I noted that Obama wants an unprecedented linkage of data to go with each patient. It will create massive health benefits and savings. And will have the potential for horrible abuse. This stuff is going to be on the Web, and hackable. Medical blackmail will occur (it actually already does, it will just bemore comon). Low paid nurses and cleaning staff will have access to it. I don't think every health care worker is an angel. I have met some who talk like some of the radical left on here. Would they care less about a hardcore republican, possibly."

tazzygirl -> RE: GOP hints Dems would deny Republicans health care (8/30/2009 12:06:44 PM)

Nurses are underpaid.... but i do want to stress that we police our own far better than the AMA does. If you google your state board of nursing, most often you can find a list of sanctions/punishments. As far as others having access to your health care records, Hospitals are selective about who has access.. and what they have access too.

tazzygirl -> RE: GOP hints Dems would deny Republicans health care (8/30/2009 12:09:36 PM)

at this point, im eager to see almost anything pass that will allow people basic medical care. and, yes, i think it should be a right... not a priveledge. we have a single payor system in place in the government. how hard would it be to turn that model into something everyone could use.

Lostkitten3 -> RE: GOP hints Dems would deny Republicans health care (8/30/2009 12:11:40 PM)

I am an independent that leans to the left and I have honestly never heard this before. Maybe it's because I try to ignore the Uber Left or the Uber Right, because I don't think they represent the majority, just try to incite them. I do think they are a necessary evil so that people will be alerted to different issues, but it is often taken too far.

I do see and hear a lot of Dems and Repubs in the middle saying reasonable things about health care. Tryin g to make it work.

And the getting rid of Republicans is such a joke, I'm sure everyone who said it is just frustrated with the ridiculousness Democrats are forced to defend against by the Republicans that make this stuff up. It is exhausting sometimes. Surely you can take a joke nowadays?

MarsBonfire -> RE: GOP hints Dems would deny Republicans health care (8/30/2009 2:34:25 PM)

Lost, I doubt that anyone of the right can take a joke these days. Hell, a couple months back, there was a news story that detailed a poll of GOP members who actually thought Stephen Colbert was real.  Sad to say, there is a good chunk on the right who simply don't have the ability to tell the difference between reality and M.U.S. (Made up shit) Look at the birthers and the death eaters. Both of those groups have latched onto demonstrably FALSE stories, yet continue to parrot them as though they were gospel. Obama's birth is well established as having taken place in the 50th state, and the level of contortions that they had to go through in reading one sentance out of the huge HCR bill to come up with "death panels" is ridiculous! Yet, they believe in these fictions so much, that they are willing to come ARMED to local town hall meetings, threatening their electoed officials, and anyone who disagrees with them, just by their mere presence.

Sense of humor? No, I don't think so.
I left my sense of humor behind myself when I saw news footage of these boarderline John Birchers standing around with machine guns strapped to their legs.

Damn, I knew there was a reason I liked you RWH...I too hope this bill fails so that the way might be opened for single payer. Next time your round the pub have a pint for me...I'll do the same for you.(insert the little smiley downing the pint of Guinness here...for some reason I can no longer access the extra smiley page[:o])

tazzygirl -> RE: GOP hints Dems would deny Republicans health care (8/30/2009 4:25:32 PM)

Im glad so many of you hope this bill fails. Those it does not affect. For those who live here, without health care, without resources, i hope it does pass. Its not the first attempt, even Bush attempted something close. If this fails, i hate to think what will happen next time.

kdsub -> RE: GOP hints Dems would deny Republicans health care (8/30/2009 4:27:18 PM)

Yes but that has been left to the individual in the past... and for many years in the past it was good... In fact over a 30 year period it was one of the very best in the world.... That is no longer true but over the last 50 years the Government did a pretty good job...

And we are not done yet... it will all come down to if we can afford it after blowing are wade as a world policeman.

Ok, two points....first of all, my comment was not meant as an attack. It was a question. You spoke of favoring single payer when Bush suggested it but wariness about the idea of democrats being trustworthy enough to administrate the program. I am delighted to find that your opinion on single payer (a truly sensible proposal) is not based on who happens to be in power at the time.

As for the security of data, I think you may be overstating the ability of anyone and everyone to access that data. Take for example, our financial data. Everyone who uses online banking or orders a product over the internet has their financial information in electronic form. As it stands, while there is some identity theft and abuse, it is not so widespread as to make it a bar to the benefits of having that information available and accessible by those who need it. I will say that, having been in the ECM field for a while now, the security concerns are being taken very seriously and there are workable ways to keep a good level of security to these records.

tazzygirl -> RE: GOP hints Dems would deny Republicans health care (8/30/2009 4:44:14 PM)

Am i mistaken or was it the rebulican party that had issues with single payeer when Obama brught it up?
