the acronym they have is: LGBTTQI&A.

I challenge ANYONE to try to figure out what the heck that is (they did give the long version, but I really wanna know if anyone out there can grok it).

Am I really the only person who knows all of this for sure?

Lesbian
Gay
Bisexual
Transgender
Transsexual (not the same as transgender)
Questioning/Queer (Sometimes shown with two Qs)
Intersex
Allies/Asexual (Sometimes shown with two As)

If we're quoting Heinlein, my favorite acronym: BIBWYLO

re lgbtect.....ect =excetera, she did not want to spell the whole thing out....

That is the problem with acronyms, they are meant to save time, but when they get to long the opposit happens.

I teach a class called "under the queer umbrella", I love the term queer because just about everything fits into it....and I am lazy.

I find excessive use of acronyms to be terribly annoying and absolutely -hate- being overly politically correct.  It's actually gotten to a point where I've become mildly cynical towards the entire thing and while I do try to avoid being offensive, knowing my audience when joking around, being the typical polite Canadian, etc etc, I will get irritated as heck if someone gets worked up and pissy about something that's not worth getting worked up and pissy about.

Hell, I'm a half-Inuit bastard son that's adopted and have gay, lesbian, and bi-sexual friends of various races and backgrounds it's like my social life is an after school special sometimes.

Agreed, I resent the acronyms just as much as I resent being stereotyped as 'other' just because I just happen to have been born with a birth defect and incorrect body parts. I'm tired of using labels and having to explain to dispel myths, prejudices and gain the same sort of social acceptance that most other people take for granted.

I mean, how we would feel if we had DICKHEADS (Diabetics, Insomniacs, Carnosinemiacs, Keritosis (sufferers) Haemophiliacs, Epileptics, Asthmatics, Dyslexics, Spastics)?
