PC = Piece of Crap.

I'm rarely a negative type... but I have become so unhappy with my *very expensive* hp vista PC that I'm going to get a new lil notebook or something that I can type on, upload pix, and get online.  That's all I need.  and skype.  I need me some skype.

Good luck.

i hate my HP laptops and the desktop is frazzled. At least they were free. They were only 3 or so years old. I just bought a couple of used Ibooks G4 with OS10.4 operating system and Tiger. I know I will be very happy with them, Ive owned a couple of them and have missed the one I (lovingly)gave away. So tired of the glitches and freeze ups and slowness of the PC's.

You dont give many choices up top. Dell is madeby HP so really they are the same.

igor2003 -> RE: What computer should I get... (8/30/2009 7:45:57 PM)

I'm seriously considering a Mac the nest time I buy.

You could get a different operating system like Windows XP.

You'll be just as happy buying used and refurbished. They are much cheaper that way.

Not really...HP brought out Compaq years ago and merged. Besides if Dell and HP had business dealing (merging) together, that would form a monopoly and that is against the Sherman Act, which endorses free enterprise and competation.

Shahar Thorne is right - Compaq is made by HP, but not Dell.

I've had lousy results with HP and good ones with Dell.  I've heard the opposite from others, though.

ST, what are the uses for these computers?  Heavy gaming or graphics design?  Or just surfing and light word processing?

LinnaeaBorealis -> RE: What computer should I get... (8/30/2009 8:10:35 PM)

I wasn't aware that HP bought Dell.  I have a 3-year-old Gateway that I love, but it's had too much hard use.  I bought a $500 Dell & I'm pretty happy with it.  Not bad for a throwaway, lol.  I'm actually kinda surprised at how well I'm liking it.  If it were me, I'd get a Dell.  For the price, I don't think you can beat them.  Just be sure to get teh extended warranty.

Yes, youre right. I am mistaken. It is Compaq that HP bought out.

Consider Mac!!!!

ShaharThorne -> RE: What computer should I get... (8/30/2009 8:18:43 PM)

DS, mainly online gaming, office and computer games for the young UMs. Net surfing and youtube viewing (can't do that on this computer) as well. We decided that I need at least 6 gigs of RAM and Staples is selling an HP for $679 this week bundled with a 23" monitor. I also have to think of my UM since her computer is at least 5 years old and has a dll warning popping up all of the time.

DarkSteven -> RE: What computer should I get... (8/30/2009 8:24:05 PM)

For what you need, I think you should be able to get a desktop for around $400.  If you follow lushy's advice and buy used, you might get something for about $200 AND not have to deal with Vista.

ShaharThorne -> RE: What computer should I get... (8/30/2009 8:31:50 PM)

I got an OEM of XP down at my UM's place. Alexis (former sub) and I used to upgrade computers on the side for years.

Ebay. There are compputer retailers. Comes with a small warantee and if you use paypal you are covered also. I got another one for 280 but that came with a longer warantee, the original manual box and software.

look around a bit,the place I volunteer at sells complete refurbished systems for $100-$200. Its for charity as well, so you get a tax receipt with it.[:)]

IMO, I love Dell. I purchased a used Dell Inspiron laptop several years ago for 400 dollars and it still works wonderfully. It has Windows XP on it and even after all these years I still haven't filled it up. But I should say that I am also the only one that ever uses it. If you go with Dell I would suggest buying new because not only does the place you purchase it from usually give a warranty Dell includes a warranty on their new laptops and PC's. You can also custom a Dell from their website should you want to have one customized and it's in plain language that everyone can understand.

Bright Blessings,
Lady Ayla
