Photographs can be staged. You go to a professional photographer, or have some artisitc expression yourself, or just plain realise that your picture is going to create an impression on those who see it, just like its been said, you can arrange to project the "image" of what you wish people to see or think about you.

I do find myself looking at backgrounds of pics though, just for curiosity's sake.

No matter, if the picture is staged, atmosphere set whatever, i think a face can tell you a lot about a person, especially the eyes.

Something occurred to me while reading this thread. I don't buy into the "if you can't master your own home you can't do the same for someone else." There are those who lack the skills, time, patience and habits of keeping things organized and clean. It means little about who that person is. Perhaps it might speak to what type of environment they are willing to live in but pertaining to overall character based on neatness? I am sorry, but that seems just a tiny bit shallow.

I always look at the background of a picture of someone. I think it's interesting and you can get an idea about who they are. Having said that I often do make sure when I am the subject of a picture that the background is neat or staged. Nothing more annoying then to have a really good pic of me and then see my used tissue on the bedside table.

I can not help but wonder what you guys thought of the shots of My office on that week I was swamped then... How judgemental were you then?

That's how my workspace looks on most days...but I wouldn't take a profile pic in front of it.

Me thinkest ye landed in the bulls eye (no I don't have a hate against bulls), Gauge. A compromise solution of which I hope to produce when I can get a few things organised with a digital camera etc....... One good clear pic showing you as for a PR Photo.. One good head and shoulders so we can see the eyes and face better, then one pic showing you soing what ever you do in what ever togs you choose. have the three of them in your profile so those interested can perv..... Yes??????? You choose which one you want to display for viewing by all the masses who frequent the forums.

What do you call the picture of yourself in a suit with the Caddy? Why do you want to place yourself there in a pose that shows assurance? You know that pictures tell a story and you want prospective subs to know that you are a successful young man who is in control of his own life. You've made my point perfectly. We may live in disorganization. And again, I am as guilty as this as anyone else. I would want to put my best foot forward if I were looking to attract someone. And, that might be an outdoor setting if my home was a mess.

If you don't even care enough to put your best foot forward, doesn't that say something?

I agree. I have seen some where the background was so cluttered it made it hard to even see the person. They really are doing themselves a disservice.

Even though I hate having my pic taken (I always get caught with my eyes closed), I take the time to make a note of what is behind me just in case it turns out to be ok.

I think the point is that it shows they don't understand much about people and about how to make a good first impression. The don't notice the little things and are not very aware.

IB does have a good point though, there is a diffrence in the type of clutter. His for example shows a busy office area, but it isn't total chaos and doesn't make a bad impression. Whilst someone stood in the middle of a livingroom that looks like a bomb has hit it would make a bad first impression.

KoM also is right in saying it doesn't tell you much, but it does tell you if they notice such things. It is the first little piece of the puzzle you are given when you are looking to learn about who they are, so why not take that little effort to ensure it is a good piece rather than a negative one?

I agree with kc...since the majority of the mail I receive is from submissive boys who are writing to me with an offer to serve, I do notice the background. A quick example would be the boy who sent a one liner, and his profile photo was a very messy (read obviously needing a good clean - not just a quick clutter check) background. I had to respond with this: "Is that a beer can in your hand?" And yes, it was obviously a beer can being raised to the camera.
I also agree with Gauge. That was a quick one to weed out. In a sense, it was helpful to Me to see this, because this was a boy who obviously had no clue, and didn't even notice that his presentation via profile photo was not going to make a good impression. So I saved a lot of time.
We all live amidst a mess at times. Life happens. I think it shows pride, if nothing else, that someone would take care with the photos they are sharing. I can not take a boy offering cleaning skills very seriously if he doesn't even notice that his unmade bed and piles of dirty laundry and dishes are in the photo he is posting. It shows a lack of priority.
Kenin, you had a completely different situation, as has already been stated. Your profile photo shows your general presentation to the world and this community as a Dominant Male. You shared something more intimate with us that night when you were crazy after some difficult projects. You wouldn't use those pictures as profile photos. And you weren't in them anyway! *S*

One time I was naked and I took a picture of something else and even though the flash whited it out you could still tell it was a boob in the corner of the picture lol. Now naturally I don't send that one out publically=))

I never even thought of it that way. An ex girlfriend took that picture for Me for fun. I put it on here because I liked it (one thing you will learn about Me is that I really do not give a crap what anyone thinks of Me, so I placed no thought into the picture). The second picture in My profile is a fun one from Me at the bar. I guess it portrays My typical easy going nature, but I never really thought of that either until I started typing this. The third one is obvious, and the reason that I seek noone.
