[sm=biggrin.gif]Now you've done it...you've made me laugh, thus disqualifying me from this thread.

So I suppose that Glen Campbell, the Carpenters, and the Archies don't count?

The OP asked, "if anyone out there listens to good music", so of course those have to count, along with Olivia Newton-John, Linda Ronstadt, and Donovan.

And Manheim Steamroller, I love their music.

Okay, let me clarify by simply listing what I consider true metal and punk.

All of these bands have a myspace, so go there. I'm not going to waste half an hour finding all of the links to these bands.

Metal:
Forgotten Tomb
GRIEF (Oakland, CA)
NOOTHGRUSH (Oakland, CA)
Darkthrone
Dark Funeral
Mournful Congregation
Trelldom
Abandon (not the pop band. The band from Sweden)
Bethlehem (Dark Metal and Dictius te Necare are the only good albums)
Burning Witch
Bathory
Khanate
Behemoth
Mayhem
Thorr's Hammer (America, with 17 year oldfemale norwegian singer)
Monarch
Municipal Waste
Sunn O)))
Wormphlegm (I am not a racist, but their music is amazing)

Punk:
INSECT WARFARE
Phobia
Bad Brains
Besthoven (Brazil)
Capitalist Casualties
Antisect
Amebix
DYSTOPIA
Disrupt
Extreme Noise Terror
Kakistocracy
Nausea
Carcass Grinder
Fuck on the Beach
ICONOCLAST
Magrudergrind
Masskontrol
The KLF
Man is the Bastard

Yo FUCK POP PUNK. That shit is for people who don't actually take the time to look up music that actually takes some imagination to create. That's why I said "Not that greenday pussy bullshit." Every pop punk band has the same sound, and to me, it sounds like a big wet fart.

I spend the majority of my freetime looking up new music and attempting (with very little results, ha) to write music. So don't call me a pompous asshole for calling out fake ass shit; I've done my fucking homework.

True metal is only played by Manowar.

Dude, there is a difference between down-tempo and depressive doom metal. I'm not a fucking pussy that bitches about how terrible my life is while sticking a pickle jar up my ass (look that up if you don't know what I'm referring to. It is terrible)

You're from London, so you've undoubtedly heard of Electric Wizard. I consider them down-tempo, although they are obviously stoner doom. Their music is slow, the tempo is slow, therefore, they are down-tempo.

Bonegripper,
I've been going to metal shows since before you were born and the list you gave isn't so much 'real' metal as black/death metal which is merely a subset of the entire genre.  A lot of metal heads don't listen to that paricular subset: I generally do not as, even when I was younger than you, it sounded more like noise than music and a lot of it still does to me but rock on, everyone hasdifferent tastes.
That having been said, of your list, I've seen/met (And had my pic taken with) Behemoth and they put on an excellent show.  I saw them this year at the Mayhem Festival and were it not for the 16 year old I had with me who knew and loved all of the bands there, I'd have shown up for Manson and only Manson.  I was glad to see and enjoy several bands that I'd not really given a listen to previously and I had some of my negative conceptions confirmed: Cannibal Corpse was not good and Slayer, while classic, sounded, again, just like noise.  The kid I was with (Whose first concert it was) loves the bands you noted but can also talk about a much, much more diverse array of music, much to his credit: and, he threw down like a pro in the Cannibal Corpse circle pit!).  Those kids at that show made me feel pretty damn good for the future of metal as a genre.

Damn, man, you and I have almost the same library...
Though when metal first began, KISS was amongst that list, and I have most of their stuff too.

and "thebongripper" I listen to that and allot of other good music. You cannot call just one genre good, or that makes you close minded to other good sounds. I have lately gotten into more of the Gothic bands, as well as Alternative and New Age, I love Adiemus, and Enigma, as well as Creed and some of the softer bands like Boston, Bon Jovi, the Beatles, and so on. Good music can come from any genre, it all depends on the artist and their talent and sculting their words to give you the picture that they want you to see and feel. The instruments then help you feel those words.

I have had times when the words were great, but the soundtrack did not blend with it and the picture I was getting was distorted. Even punk groups do that.

DavanKael, my lovely,

Was that "Bonegripper" salutation a Freudian slip ? The dude's name is bongripper...[;)]

Btw, love your new pic. Cute elfin ear peeking out.

Hi, cjan----
How goes it?  :>  Thank you for the compliment.
Damn, I wish I could say it was but I think it was merely lack of caffeine.
Now I see, it's bong ripper (Puzzled at how one would enjoy such aggressive music live while stoned but that's just aside and maybe the kid doesn't go to shows).
Davan
(Who is now caffeinated and is feeling smug as I've seen at least half of PeterJay's list live!)

DavanKael -> RE: Does anyone out there listen to true punk or metal? (9/29/2009 8:51:54 AM)

Bone Gripper is a FAR MORE metal name than bong ripper.  Lol!!!
  Davan
(Who is now giggling at HatesParisHilton's idea)

thebongripper -> RE: Does anyone out there listen to true punk or metal? (9/29/2009 9:49:03 AM)

First off, shows are better with weed. Period.

Secondly, Bongripper is actually an ambient stoner doom band. They're pretty good, but I like the name more than their music really...

Thirdly, I go to shows (NOT CONCERTS. CONCERTS FUCKING SUCK) about twice a month. The last one I went to was headlined by a band called Seinzum Tode. You should look them up. They play technical jazz metal.
